Queen knights Salman Rushdie; Update: Iranian group ups bounty on Rushdie’s head
posted at 2:40 pm on June 17, 2007 by Allahpundit
A bejeweled, white-gloved hand turns towards Tehran and slowly extends its middle finger…
Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini portrayed the decision as an act directed against Islam by Britain, which is among world powers involved in an escalating standoff with Iran over Tehran’s disputed nuclear ambitions.
“Honoring and commending an apostate and hated figure will definitely put the British officials (in a position) of confrontation with Islamic societies,” Hosseini said.
“This act shows that insulting Islamic sacred (values) is not accidental. It is planned, organized, guided and supported by some Western countries,” he told a regular briefing…
Hosseini said: “Giving a badge to one of the most hated figures in Islamic society is … an obvious example of fighting against Islam by high-ranking British officials.”
A Pakistani paper frets that the decision might alienate British Muslims, who naturally (and probably correctly) are assumed to dislike Rushdie for his apostasy rather than appreciate him for his art. The veiled threat in such instances of “tension” is, of course, obligatory:
[I]t is being feared here that this surprising decision might create tension within British society, and the process of integration might be affected as the disgruntled Muslims would feel that they were being deliberately made to realize that their religious feelings did not carry any weight in the eyes of the British government. Many Muslims might agitate over this decision and the extremist elements might exploit Rushdie getting a knighthood for their own ends.
Exit question: Per Hosseini’s logic, aren’t Iran’s many, many affronts to western values an obvious example of fighting against the west?
Update: The fighting against the west intensifies.

“Islamic” and “values” is a contradiction in terms. So there’s no insult.

What’s Michael Jackson got to do with this.
That’s right! That never happens to any other *cough*pisschrist*cough* religion. Behead those who insult the ROP™!

Rushdie, awarded the knighthood for services to literature in Queen Elizabeth’s birthday honors list! Well the coffee is almost cooked out of the pot and the toast is burnt to a crisp but…………

Sir Rushdie accepted a position earlier this year as a professor at Emory University in Atlanta. Don’t know how security is going to handle having around.
LakeRuins on June 17, 2007 at 3:55 PM
And a posthumous pair of knighthoods to Pim Fortuyn and Theo Van Gogh, as well.

Yeah – I live a 5 minute walk from there. I was wondering the same thing.
Wha? You’re probably joking, but Emory is anything but redneck. Marxist is more like it.
A half hour drive in any direction, and you’ve the good ol south.

Yes, the arrogant Muslims demand that we curb our freedom of speech like dhimmis, yet dishonestly frame the issue as if they are the victims.
Here’s to the Queen for making a point about supporting freedom of speech.

They KNIGHTED him! Great, the New Crusades can’t be far behind.

My comment about Emory University was said with tongue firmly planted in cheek. It is a jab at folks who cannot help but conjure up the image of the south being nothing but a bunch gun wielding, pick up driving, bible thumping, Neandertals. It is one of the premier schools for medicine and law in this country and is constantly rated in the top 25 institutions in the country. But that doesn’t fit the storyline being sold by the Dems and the press so you will excuse me while I head back into the trailer to clean my shotgun.
LakeRuins on June 17, 2007 at 7:49 PM
The sad part is that, as a member of the elite literariat, Sir Rushdie probably supports the brand of multiculturalism that has forced him into hiding these past few decades.
I say this with no knowledge of Sir Rushdie’s politics. It just seemed like a safe assumption.
netherman79 on June 17, 2007 at 8:24 PM
I’m with ya, and I had a feeling you were laying on the snark. My wife is an ABD phd student there. Let’s just say that the cognitive dissonance at certain get-togethers is fascinating (e.g., hard left faculty living in the south – we stay relatively mum when their politics come up). This city is certainly an interesting place to live.
As an aside, I was pretty excited to see Rushdie accept. Not for his body of work so much (which, IIRC, he donated to Emory), but for the controversy that it will certainly stir (and for the prestige of the university). I may have to do a Zombie type photo thing when he appears publicly.
If that happens, I’ll post a link.
As another aside, you may just see me in the news if I see Ward Churchill at the grocery store again (his wife lives here). I’d love to smack his sorry…. Won’t happen though – he’s not worth the effort. Man that was a weird moment.

The queen has more balls than most Europe and half of this country. And I’m against any form of royalty, in this age.

Long live the Queen! May she live at least as long as her mother and long enough to outlive Charles….

LakeRuins ….With all due respect I hope my post isn’t offensive to you. I would hope you could find the humor in it as it is from a red neck dictionary written by red necks. I have resided is Florida for thirty plus years. I have worked on many commercial construction sites and consider my self an honorary red neck. I have the sun burned neck to prove it!
sonnyspats1 on June 17, 2007 at 9:39 PM
sonny it takes more then that to offend me. And besides you don’t really want to know what we think of Floridians up here in Jawjuh. I learned long ago if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen, which explains why I don’t do a lot of cooking. Well that and that little food poisoning thingy, but hey the family forgave me….I think.

Would you expect anything different from the those who adore the pedophile of record? Maybe they can get a comment from his nine year old wife!!!
NEMETI IN SYRACUSE on June 17, 2007 at 10:57 PM
I don’t know why the Islamists would be so offended. After all, Sir Mick “Prancelot” Jagger was also knighted. He is revered in Islamic circles for his deep understanding of Islamic male culture as a result of his hit (no pun intended) song – Under My Thumb. It is one of the rousing feel good Islamist males theme songs which is happily sung in unison during Hamas jihad training exercises. To hear that song in Arabic will bring a tear to your eye.
So, they can’t have it both ways. Long live the Queen.

Meanwhile, Rev. Ann Holmes Redding must cut her own head off.

O/T Re the so called Rev Redding who is, gasp, both Muslim and Christian, I would say what we see here is a hopeless contradiction. As she herself said, “It wasn’t about intellect,” She can say that again.

Ah yes, and the “religion of peace” has proven itself again to be just a violent cult. And all the worldly simpletons follow…….

Good Lord, when are these people going to realize the world doesn’t revolve around them…?
Great, maybe they’ll all have another one of their tantrums and show the slow learning left dhimmis what they’re all about!
