Can American afford a competent, intelligent candidate right now? I ask you.

Or is morals, defending the Constitution and staying true to Conservative values and the peoples will just as important?
Speakup on June 16, 2007 at 12:52 PM
The other candidates sure are helping out Romney.
reaganaut on June 16, 2007 at 1:05 PM
What was the rest of Tanc’s take?
Kid from Brooklyn on June 16, 2007 at 1:06 PM
True, Speakup. I’ll take Allah’s word that Tancredo never got around to making the distinction that there are two kinds of “smart”, two kinds of “intelligent” and each can be exhibited in “showy” people and even “tall” ones.
Dusty on June 16, 2007 at 1:13 PM
Heh. Yeah, obviously the clip was highly truncated. Still funny, though.
Allahpundit on June 16, 2007 at 1:15 PM
After 8 years of Bush’s stammering is Tancredo what we want?
Mojave Mark on June 16, 2007 at 1:26 PM
To answer Tancredo:
No, I want someone dumb and incompetent instead, actually.
Does tank have ADD? A great move on the immigration front the other day, then this? Focus, man, focus.
lorien1973 on June 16, 2007 at 1:29 PM
Heh. I’d say so. He can be the GOP fundrasing chairman. President? Nobody is taking out Fred, nobody.
Theworldisnotenough on June 16, 2007 at 1:32 PM
I thought somebody had done Condi-eye Photoshop to the screencap – but then I watched the vid. It’s almost Jerry Colonna worthy.
eeyore on June 16, 2007 at 1:35 PM
His eyes are literally bulging out of his head.
And, come to think of it, that trumps all other qualifications for a presidential candidate.
Screw intelligent and good-looking. I can do without competence. Give me the guy who looks like Blinky from The Simpsons.
unamused on June 16, 2007 at 1:40 PM
I’m paraphrasing but I think Rush has a quote about the reason people get into politics is because they’re too ugly to make it in Hollywood.
repvoter on June 16, 2007 at 1:54 PM
It just never ceases to amaze me. Never.
Tancrendo has this unbelieveable, earth-shaking victory in the House to wit everyone is in awe, and then he sits there and makes a total dip-wit-s**t out of himself.
Romney IS the man this country needs. Work Rudy and Fred into the Admin. I can’t say at the moment what the VP ticket should be but Romney is the guy who will whip DC into shape. Period. Forget Rudy’s tap dancing and the mania that has been attached to Fred! Romney is the best at the moment. And being a mormon’s got NOTHING to do with it.

OT: Where’s the headlines open thread?
Dusty on June 16, 2007 at 1:58 PM
Tom was definitely trying to pick the perfect words to insult Mitt! but they just weren’t coming out.
Some times you just gotts say what you’re thinking Tom, which I am sure must sound something like this….
“Mitt is smart, good looking, and capable to lead the country, but he isn’t principled enough for conservatives”.
csdeven on June 16, 2007 at 2:08 PM
AP, leave the Tancredo posts to Bryan… we already know you don’t like him.

Once again Allah, you do everything in your power to belittle Tancredo (one of only two or three true conservatives in the race) How does Michelle let you get away with this so frequently?
I bet you went out of your way to find a screen grab that made Tancredo look his worst. You’re no better than the USA Today hack that I busted manipulating Condi Rices Photo.
For the life of me I can’t understand why you constantly trash Tancredo with your “humor”. You know Guillanni, Romney, and all the other candidates besides Paul and Hunter are flip floppers on immigration. Considering this is the most important issue facing us today, it’s illogical for you to pick fun at one of the only men that would actually do something to fix this problem.
Sure, Tancredo stampers on occasion, but his platform is solid, and his message is dead on. Are we electing the next leader of the Toastmasters or president of the United States?
Confused,
Buck
bucktowndusty on June 16, 2007 at 2:45 PM
Mitt does look good in a number of ways but it’s his beliefs, what he intends to use as a guide and his trueness to us and our Conservative values that I want to know for sure will follow him into office.
No more Georgi porgies’ I’m done with betrayers, only the best will do.
The fact is though that the Republican candidates are much higher quality individually and overall than anything the Democrats have to offer.
Really ‘compared to past years’ a very good bunch to choose from.
Speakup on June 16, 2007 at 3:58 PM
BTW AP I should think the Tanc is making a little more sense to you than previously.
Speakup on June 16, 2007 at 4:00 PM
As long as he can stop the immigration disaster from being rammed down the nation’s throat, he can “stammer” all he wants.
I’ll take Mitt, Rudy, Hunter or Tancredo over anything the Dems have up this soiled sleeves.
profitsbeard on June 16, 2007 at 4:16 PM
AP, we respectfully demand the full response. You’ve obviously cherry-picked to make Tom look bad, to restore your usual position on him. I guarantee that the words which followed that “highly truncated” clip explain the context of those words, and don’t leave him looking foolish.
You do want to be thought of as not that petty, right?
Freelancer on June 16, 2007 at 7:40 PM
No, they’re helping out hillary. Romney is the GOP version of Borat Obama. He’s an unknown gov of a nothing state. Yes, he’s very pretty, and he probably gives a good speech. However, he won’t be president. Close your eyes, hold your breath, make stupid jokes about Fred Thompson..then open them on election day 2008, and Romney still won’t be president. Personally, I think the immigration bill will kill any chance of a GOP victory in 2008 no matter who we run; but only Rudy or Fred have the name recognition to challenge hillary….and that will be mean little once her war room goes to work on them.
austinnelly on June 16, 2007 at 11:32 PM
Well, I think it’s the cream of the crop that makes the rest look bad. Romney is clearly the best candidate, with Rudy in a close second. Huckabee is okay, but the rest of them are just posers.
csdeven on June 17, 2007 at 12:23 AM
OT: the other day someone mentioned a bit of coding to add to the end of YouTube’s embed code so that after it finishes playing it wouldn’t shrink into the top left corner and display other videos to choose from along the bottom.
Bleg: What is that code?
MattSkosh on June 17, 2007 at 2:12 AM
I happen to agree with most of what you said, Buck. Tancredo has said all the right things, not necessarily with effective delivery. At times it is painful watching him struggle to get the words out. I like what he has to say and have confidence in his message.
Absolutely, Profitsbeard! Don’t forget – Fred Thompson! Now Fred has a gift with delivery of his message. Combine Fred with any of the above mentioned candidates for the ‘08 ticket. . . and I’m satisfied.
heroyalwhyness on June 17, 2007 at 8:49 AM
Some would prefer a candidate who is willing to elevate the office he holds by appearing in drag.
Bill C on June 17, 2007 at 9:03 PM
Too bad we didn’t get to hear the rest of Tancredo’s comment, instead of the Keith Olbermann-esque propagandizing 10 second sound bite version of it.
