Video: Colbert on Fred’s (alleged) laziness

Pretty mild by his standards. Question: Is Colby suggesting that Fred isn’t hawkish enough towards Iran? Or is it his right-wing Colbert “persona” that’s suggesting it? I guess when you spend this much time sneering, it’s hard to keep track of what you’re sneering at.

Someone is very confused. It’s not me — and I don’t think it’s Fred Thompson, either.
Al Capp sometimes noted S.W.I.N.E. [as I recall] being someone wildly indignant nearly everyday — must be difficult to be such a person, eh?
Lamonte Thomas on June 16, 2007 at 2:09 PM
Really, was he kidding about a “nuclear armed terrorist state” or is that mainstream faux news thinking these days?
Pablo on June 16, 2007 at 2:12 PM
What I find interesting about Colbert is he won’t even let his own children watch his show… No violence, no swearing just rampant insincereity to sheild them from. The Presidential debates must not come on in his home either.
Theworldisnotenough on June 16, 2007 at 2:23 PM
Iran becomes a HUGE threat when Republicans want to use Cold War strategy to defeat them, not before. Democratic strategy = be against anything a Republican says, demagouge them for saying it then race pander relentlessly.
Theworldisnotenough on June 16, 2007 at 2:26 PM
ROFLMAO!!!
There was a smatterin’ of trut in dem dar wordz.
Fly in Air Force One. hahaha! That is exactly what fred? sounded like that night. I bet fred? wants to ride up and down in the elevator that goes to the bunker under the White House.
har dee har har har!
csdeven on June 16, 2007 at 2:29 PM
Oh, in case anyone was wondering what “vacuous” means and what a vacuous answer sounded like, well, that clip of freddie boy is the epitome of vacuous speech.
Still, that was funny and it was a pleasant change to laugh at fred? rather than be disgusted by him.
csdeven on June 16, 2007 at 2:32 PM
Colbert did have a point.
If Thompson isn’t serious about Iran, then he is going to make a horrible President.
Iran has been “taking care of itself” for a while now, and although we all hope the regime will collapse on its own (not to mention most Iranians) with the government holding the bullets I doubt we will see this happening.
To me, Fred is phlegmatic, not lazy (should we now call him Phlegmatic Fred?). This can be good when it comes to a crisis, as they often keep a cool head.
But also, they generally take the “least path of resistance,” which may not work in our post 9/11 world.
I think the biggest problem with Fred is that he is relying too much on the “easy way” of campaigning by appearing on soft talk shows, Hannity “I love every GOP save Ron Paul” and using web 2.0 as a crutch.
If he isn’t serious about campaigning for real (as in traveling the nation, talking to people) he may go down in history as a conservative Howard Dean (who mobilized the netroots, but got no further than that in the primaries).

He’s right on the money
Baphomet on June 16, 2007 at 2:35 PM
That was irritating to watch. I think I’ll check out the Obama girls video again.
Smart people can afford to be lazy ’cause they work smart. It’s the stupid people that have to work endless hours of toil. This is the Reagan criticism part deux.

So Thompson gets some free publicity which is the best kind. Colby is objective as compared to Stewart and Maher. Thompson may have scored some points here given the demographics of Colbert’s audience. I mean c’mon a lazy steak eating beer drinking work shirker. Whats not to like?
sonnyspats1 on June 16, 2007 at 2:41 PM
Colbert is a lot easier to take than the insufferably smug Jon Stewart. Because Colbert assumes the persona of a dumb guy, which adds an amusingly extra level of irony to the proceedings. Plus, he plays a conservative dumb guy, which means that the conservative point of view has to be addressed, even if it’s in a backhanded fashion. Personally, I think Colbert is a lot more balanced that that pr*ck Stewart.

There’s just no way fred_ is going to be elected looking like that. Elections don’t just take care of themselves. Your basic 6-pack voter isn’t going to give a $400,000/yr job to someone who just wants to do some things.

I was reading a recent report on campaign fund raising. freds? numbers got $200,000 in one day. Then I read a report where Mitt! raised 3.4 million in one day.
fred? sounds lazy and has a rep for being lazy and his record suggests lazy.
quack, waddle, swim….duck.

What kind of coach sends in a draw on 3rd and 25? I mean it never works. Just ask csdeven. Fire the bum.

Agree, except for me it was fun to watch. So much jealousy for someone who can accomplish so much by being “lazy”. Take the “busy” Clinton couple. On the dole from the government for almost a lifetiem, then 10-50 millions worth, after benefitting from having been on the tit of the taxpayers…he, he, ha, ha – great accomplishment! I’m sooo impressed.
Rudy/Fred or Fred/Rudi – and by a landslide. Colbert might even be among those who’ll vote for this ticket.
Entelechy on June 16, 2007 at 3:57 PM
I think Fred probably has a good idea about what to do with Iran, but it wasn’t safe for TV. Ha.
emmaline1138 on June 16, 2007 at 5:58 PM
Colbert?
Whatever.
unamused on June 16, 2007 at 7:04 PM
I would rather have a president who was “smart and lazy” than a president who was stupid and overeager.
Rose on June 16, 2007 at 7:19 PM
There are manifold divisive forces functioning within and near the government in Teheran. Some of those forces are not anti-American. Others are strongly anti-Ahmedinejad even while being anti-Western. All of those forces have been, and are being offered support, to the end that the current regime may well fall.
If you are in a position of having to defend your regime, the moment you realize that you are on the losing side, you’ll not want those who overrun you to have your best toys, so you destroy them.
That is a contingency currently being pressed toward, and completely validates Sen. Thompson’s answer to that question.

Damn…
Colbertcs can REALLY be a douche sometimes, eh?omnipotent on June 16, 2007 at 8:48 PM
Oh c’mon AP, it’s called comedy. He takes things out of context, i.e. the Iran comment, and uses it for laughs.
For an example of how not to do it, see 1/2 Hour News Hour.

People actually watch this guy? I mean other than hotair readers who watch it the way a clinical biologist watches e.coli colonies developing in the patient’s specimen …
Aylios on June 17, 2007 at 8:54 AM
On second thoughts he’s pretty funny ^^.
Aylios on June 17, 2007 at 8:59 AM
But I agree with Rose.
3 posts to get all that out :/, but ok who reads posts anyway …
Aylios on June 17, 2007 at 9:00 AM
csdeven, are you always this “Kos-Like”? Did your mommy open the wrong website again?
BadBrad on June 17, 2007 at 10:09 AM
While it is clear that freddie boy is lazy, it is not clear that he is smart. And if he is smart, he is using his smarts the wrong way. He is using them to engage in being the best faker. If he’d put all that effort into actually being a candidate first, and a public servant second, he would be better served. But even if he did, he’d have to answer for his questionable behavior, and his absolute total lack of qualifications to be POTUS. And I’m not saying anything freddie boy doesn’t already understand. He knows he is completely unqualified and that is why he is staying off the debate stage and refuses tough interviews. fred? would prefer to ride these poll numbers up until the day before the nomination and then announce himself as a candidate. I know many people think this is “smart”, but the fact is that his behavior is insulting to conservative values.
csdeven on June 17, 2007 at 11:11 AM
Think of how much of your one and only life you waste bagging on Phlegmatic Phred. You know that you’re going to vote for him anyway if he’s the nominee. This part of the election process should be fun and informative. Why don’t you just enjoy it? We are just a few people kicking around ideas on the HA website. There will be 100,000,000 people voting in ‘08. You need to keep things in perspective.
Mojave Mark on June 17, 2007 at 11:50 AM
When asked for comment on his perceived laziness Thompson promised to get back to the question after he takes his kids to chucky cheese next month…..
Bradky on June 17, 2007 at 5:30 PM
A) Bagging on fred? is fun.
B) Who says I’m not having fun?
C) My perspective is fine.
D) Thanks for the advice, but you’re not my Dad.
csdeven on June 17, 2007 at 6:07 PM
csdeven, are you actually trying to convince anyone or are you just being silly?
Rose on June 17, 2007 at 11:02 PM
Yes.
csdeven on June 18, 2007 at 12:05 AM
Thanks, that’s awfully big of you, especially coming from a poster that’s too lazy to have his own blog with a free Blogger or MSN Spaces account.
With that kind of pedigree you should definitely know lazy when you see it.
