[...] Stick and carrot. The carrot is western nations agreeing to end the embargo of Abbas’s government that was imposed last year after Hamas was elected. Palestine is now “Fatahstine” and there ain’t no Hamas in Fatahstine (although there is plenty of Islamic Jihad, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, etc etc), so the money spigot can be switched back on. A peace deal may also be in the offing, as explained yesterday. The goal: to show Hamastan how good Fatahstine has it, and how good they might have it too. Shouldn’t be hard — the bar’s set awfully low. “Gaza is becoming the Mogadishu of the Mediterranean,” said one Palestinian official who refused to be named. “People thrown off the rooftops of 10-storey buildings, Palestinians shooting other Palestinians at point blank, others shot in front of their families. So Hamas is in control but do they really think people won’t forget what has happened given our culture of pay-back and revenge?”… [...]

It seems to me I recall most of the Middle East lambasting America for cutting its financial support to Palestine when Hamas won. The criticism was that America didn't support democracy in Palestine, as if democracy ever existed there and as if we were obliged to support our terrorist enemies.

The Hamas victory tends to demonstrate their contempt for democracy and the one vote, one time nature of elections in Arab Muslim countries in which the radicals gain power and then ditch democracy for dictatorship.

Dude, hate to quibble with your Bible, but Jacob sold his birthright, not Ishmael.

Wrong...Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of stew, if you are going to correct someone at least do your homework so you have your fact correct.

Isreal should turn off the lights in Gaza and let the Arabs blow the crap out of each other. Would anyone really miss them?

I was in the West Bank last month and I can tell you: the Palestinian Authority doesn't function from what I could see. Let them pretend to govern for a while longer and ordinary Palestinians will clamor for the Isrealis to come in and take over. Look what happened two short years after Israel pulled out of Gaza. Civilians there are already wishing Israel were in control again. A few days driving around the countryside between Israel proper and the West Bank tells a casual observer that Israel functions and "Palestine" doesn't.

Here's one piece on my trip:

Wanna see a Palestinians head explode? Just ask him how many times Palestine is mentioned in his "Holy" Book vs. the times Israel is referred to directly. You'll never witness a more pathetic display of acute stupidity (other than the pathetic display of acute stupidity coming from the territories on a daily basis)

Exit question: What’s the answer? Let’s solve the Middle East crisis. Right here, right now.
I think this ends when muslims have killed, converted, or taxed non-muslims out of existence, or when non-muslims have killed, converted, or taxed muslims out of existence. I'd much prefer that non-muslims eradicate Islam. However, muslim women are the ones earthy enough to have babies, and muslim men are the ones earthy enough to convert, kill, or rob those they name enemies. I expect non-muslims to begin soon to excel muslims in birthing, converting, killing, and robbing, or I expect muslims to win. Either way, I'm going to get as much enjoyment as I can from watching good men destroy bad men.

The West can always count on Islamic blood letting. Muslim on Muslim violence has held this part of the world at bay for centuries. It'll be the same with Iran. Just turn Muslim against Muslim and they will happily kill each other till Christ returns.

Exit question: What’s the answer? Let’s solve the Middle East crisis. Right here, right now.

I suggest a 'Bay of Pigs' redux, combined with Israeli realpolitik.

The Israelis should sponsor an amphibious landing of West Bank Fatah forces in Gaza, and let the war resume. They should support Fatah until it appears that they are decisively winning, and then let support ebb for awhile. Support should be pulsed again when Hamas appears to be gaining the upper hand. Repeat as often as necessary. Let's call it a slow-bleed.

Islam decrees that all non-Muslims must be subjugated.

This is just a little sideshow to the larger war against human liberty.

"Palestinians", "Iranians", etc. don't exist withing anti-national Islam.

Just the Ummah (all true-believing Muslims).

They do not want peace or "states" for "solutions".

They want global domination and a pa=lanetary theocratic tyranny.

This distraction of mistaking their individual brigades for different beliefs systems/ "nations"/ "peoples" hampers the West's efforts to defeat this Uber-fascism.

Drive them out and defeat them, or suffer their deceit, terror and endless efforts to enslave and slaughter you.

Jihadists know what they want.

When will the West?

AM I bad for thinking Palestinians killing other Palestinians for a change is not a problem?

If it is only Hamas "gunmen" and Fatah "gunmen" (where do the media settle on their terminology??) - probably not. But these scum will hurt more of the innocent than anyone else...sigh.

I fear only more time in utter choas and deprivation in Gaza will lead more and more West Bank Arabs to see that Israel and Jordan ain't too darn bad, and they can tell Gaza to go pound sand.

As for Gaza... I am afraid it will sprial into a Hobbesian "State of Nature" before resolving itself. Badly, at that.

    That’s a real photo, dude.

Allahpundit on June 15, 2007 at 3:12 PM

The photo was lifted from (somewhere?) with the following story...

Terrorists have found a new way to get through Airport security at LAX.

Only after the man (pictured in the TV capture) had an altercation with a flight attendant because his weapon wouldn't fit in the overhead compartment did LAX security begin their investigation.

It turns out that the clutter of junk on the TV monitor hooked to X-Ray machines is just a placebo for travelers. Department of Homeland security admitted that bags taken from X-Ray machines are purely random since they can't see anything on them anyway.

It turns out that the clutter of junk on the TV monitor hooked to X-Ray machines is just a placebo for travelers. Department of Homeland security admitted that bags taken from X-Ray machines are purely random since they can’t see anything on them anyway.

Dude, hate to quibble with your Bible, but Jacob sold his birthright, not Ishmael. Ishmael kind of disappears out of the picture after he and his mom are rescued by the angel in the desert.

On a more serious note, I am inclined to agree with silverstar and let 'em wipe each other out. If I had to choose between plans, though, I'd have to go with granting Palestinian Statehood to the West Bank. At THAT point, they become legitimate political targets and can be declared war upon when they do something stupid, which would take all of three weeks. Then the West Bank becomes Israeli again and the Palestinians flee to Jordan (which is how they ended up in the West Bank to begin with, back when Jordan occupied it!). Or they may even be able to let them keep independence and give them the Syria/Lebanon puppet special. Frankly, the Palestinian cause is so bogus that I don't care whether or not their leaders retain any credibility.

The funny thing is the Palistinians claim that they are the desendants of the Philistines and that the original Israelis invaded and conquered the land that is theirs.

The solution has never been to give the Palistinians a state but to finally move them all to other arabic countries.

They have already admitted they will never give up their attempts to destroy Israel. There will never been peace as long as the idea of a palistinian state lives.

For peace Palistine the state must die. So the Palistinians can live finally in peace with Israel

3000 years ago, one son of Abraham, Ishmael, sold his birthright to the other, Isaac, for a bowl of porage.

Except..that was Jacob and Esau. Ishmael, son of the servant turned concubine, just got sent away.

But let's take this opportunity to debunk the notion that Mohammad was a descendant of Ishmael. The only person who holds that to be true is Mohammed. No particular historical reason to believe it. In fact, the Quran only mentions Abraham's son, and is non-specific as to who it was. The Hadiths mention both Isaac and Ishmael an almost equal number of times. (This is relative to the story of Abraham sacrificing his son on mt moriah, a version of which is related in the Quran.)

The Ishmael-ization of the story, and the attendant identification by Muslims as descending from Ishmael, has been a rather late breaking development in historical terms, part of the political polarization against Jews and Christians.

I think you have to elaborate on your exit question. It should probably read:

"3000 years ago, one son of Abraham, Ishmael, sold his birthright to the other, Isaac, for a bowl of porage. Since then, their descendants have hated each other. This problem was exacerbated when one of Ishmael's descendants converted the rest to a religion that considered Isaac's descendants to be 'dogs and pigs.' Now big populations of them live just a few miles apart on a little stretch of land in the Middle East that both consider their home. Let's solve that little family dispute, Right here, right now."

The West Bank Palestinians should see that their only hope to keep from falling under a Taliban-like regime is to join with Jordan. Hopefully that part of the world will become sane again soon. They have got to be tired of blaming their problems on the Jews by now.
