Allah’s in the Cathedral

Westminster Cathedral, to be exact.

The premiere of a work by the leading composer Sir John Taverner in Westminster Cathedral next week has provoked discord because it glorifies the Muslim deity Allah.

Traditionalist Roman Catholics are planning to converge on the cathedral on Tuesday evening to protest over the work, which includes the singing of the 99 names of Allah.

We shouldn’t let this detail escape our notice.

Sir John’s music featured in the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, and his new work, The Beautiful Names, was commissioned by his friend the Prince of Wales.

That would be Prince Charles, who will presumably become head of the Church of England at some point.

Westminster Cathedral is Catholic, the Church of England is Anglican. Are you saying they’re sticking it to the Catholics?

amerpundit on June 15, 2007 at 8:52 AM

I wonder why Westminster Cathedral was chosen for this.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, the cathedral is Roman Catholic. It is a different building from Westminster Abbey, a Church of England building. The prince wasn’t being very sensitive here, now was he?

I have no idea. I just find the whole thing odd.

I find it odd as well. At first I thought it was the Prince’s attempt to assimilate the Muslim community with the majority religion in the UK. That seemed like a reasonable solution, but then why would they have it in a Cathedral? Muslims don’t go to Cathedrals, unless they’re being invited to this particular event.

There is one solution that seems far fetched, and I certainly hope isn’t the case. Most of you probably thought the same thing first time you read the article.

amerpundit on June 15, 2007 at 9:10 AM

I heard that, at the climax of the final movement, they’re going to unfurl behind the orchestra a giant cartoon portrait of Muhammad.

Didn’t you hear that? Let’s get the word out.

Rumors have surrounded Prince Charles chummy relationship with Islam, with many suggesting that he has already converted. Daniel Pipes keeps a weblog on the subject. Lots of disturbing info like this:

Prince Charles revealed… his expressed intent, on becoming king and supreme governor of the Church of England, to ditch the centuries’ old defender of the faith title and replace it with defender of faith and defender of the Divine.

This will be used by the radicals to claim that land as a part of the Caliphate. Forever. Benny needs to step up.

This shows the problem with the concept of a state religion.

Let’s hope that’s true. Under the Acts of Union 1707 which united England and Scotland into the United Kingdom, the monarch must be a Protestant Christian. So if he’s converted to Islam, the weasel won’t be able to ascend to the throne, one of his sons would go in his place (assuming they haven’t converted by then, either, of course).

corbettw on June 15, 2007 at 9:49 AM

What the heck?

Some of this creep of Islam is so small and should be insignificant, but instead it feels insidious and quite deliberate.

The vast majority of modern composers have their heads permanently inserted up a hole where the sun don’t shine. It’s the post-modernist pose, and people still fall for it, no matter how boring or empty the sounds are.

Also – at least in western Europe, the subtle infusion of arabic sounds in pop music has been going on for a few years now. Not enough to dominate, but enough to raise an eyebrow now and then.

Someone needs to compose a piece in honor of all the crusaders buried in that Cathedral, who gave their lives to hold back Islam from overrunning Europe. If you see a tomb effigy with the man’s legs crossed it symbolizes their crusader status. Those should start being removed sometime soon in order not to complete the victory of Islam over Britain.

Liberal Britain is turning their houses of worship to Christ over to Islam rather than making the poor bomb blasting savages have to fight for them.

IRA take note, the Catholic Church be damned but UK prostates itself to Islam.

I find it absolutely astounding that Christian leaders do not feel an obligation to do the slightest research before accepting Islamic apologist’s word about Allah.

Even a cursory review reveals that “Allah” resides in hell (”to toucher infidels). Perhaps he is the devil. At very least he does not sound like Abraham’s God, nor the God of Christ.

The more we placate these barbarians, the more certain this will devolve from a war within Islam into a war with Islam.

Sorry, I was so nerved up that should read “Those should start being removed sometime soon in order not to offend The Religion of Peace and complete the victory of Islam over Britain.”

The COE is focused on issues like homosexual liberation, pandering to social celebs like Bono (U2charist) and basically stripping Scripture from its culture. I’m sure a religion that stands for “something” appeals to people that belong to a Church that stands for nothing.

I’m sure they’ll be performing the Pucchini Mass in a mosque any time now.

Traditionalist Roman Catholics are planning to converge on the cathedral on Tuesday evening to protest over the work, which includes the singing of the 99 names of Allah.

This is not specifically a Roman Catholic issue. This issue affects any Christian claiming lineage to the original Apostolic Church. The Apostolic Church is very clear in defining God, as affirmed by Jesus Christ Himself, and this is distinctly different than Allah as defined by Mohammed 600 years later.

What this really represents, to all of Christendom, is the interjection of idolatry into otherwise Christian worship. There is absolutely no way to reconcile this issue within Christendom unless we give up our definition of Allah as a pagan idol, which is exactly what these people are doing when identifying Allah as just another name for the same God that Christians worship. Likewise for Muslims who view any form of Christianity as apostate. Anyone trying to reconcile these definitions will find themselves theological adversaries of both orthodox Christians and fundamentalist Muslims.

Also, keep in mind that the word catholic is Latin, derived from Greek, meaning general and/or universal, and translates into English as the word Christian. Anyone in Western Culture who claims to be Christian is also claiming to be catholic in the general sense. And the greater Catholic Church, as in Apostolic Church, is anyone who considers themselves part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. This includes Roman Catholics, Anglicans, and most orthodox Protestants, etc.

It’s one step closer to Westminster Mosque.

Just for some background, most of the great cathedrals of Europe can hold tens of thousands of worshippers at once, yet most are largely empty on Sunday. As their parishioners leave the faith, the governments have stepped in to support the cathedrals as historical places and turned them into museums.

Now, the Muslim population is rising through immigration and hyper-reproduction and will probably be a majority in Europe within the next century. France will go Muslim within fifty years. When Muslims form a majority in a European government, what do you think the chances are that those old museum/cathedrals will become state mosques? It’s inevitable.

If you think I’m kidding about Westminster Mosque, think again.

Gosh I hope Scotland secedes from England. There’s still plenty of sane people there and non-dhimmi churches. It’s heartbreaking to see one of the strongholds of Biblical Christianity go out this way.

PRCalDude on June 15, 2007 at 11:38 AM

I thought Allah only had one other name: Satan.

In keeping with its status as a late, minor gnostic heresy.

Don’t any of these nominal Christians know anything about their own religion, much less Islam?

I would prefer to hear an oratorio on The 9 Million Names of Rama.

(It would keep these obvious airheads occupied longer and doing less damage, as well.)

profitsbeard on June 15, 2007 at 12:27 PM

Good quest.

The answer to this questions is no.

Key points: “nominal Christian” and “their own religion”

Most nominal Christians are Christian in name only, and whatever religion they create for themselves is indeed their own singular religion.

This is the progressive view of many people who want to be viewed on the outside as Christian, but on the inside they don’t really want to adhere to the tennets of faith. But this isn’t really progressive, because this ideology has been around a long time.

Lawrence on June 15, 2007 at 2:17 PM

It goes way back to King Henry when the church decided to split with Rome and form the Church of England.

So, they had it in for the Catholics since, then came Charles in Charge.

Kini on June 15, 2007 at 7:52 PM

But this isn’t really progressive, because this ideology has been around a long time.

I argued that once about “boundry pushers.” It seemed like some people pushing boundries, ‘progressives,’ were pushing boundries back about three thousand years or so.

From the text:

He said that it was a musical performance rather than a “liturgical act of worship”.

So maybe the “musical performance” should be presented in some sort of building created for that purpose.

Welcome to the beginings of the One World church. Get ready for the all inclusive faith. Get ready for it to be adopted by the EU. Get ready for people to start getting their heads cut off because anyone who doesn’t join it will be concidered a religious bigot/extreamist etc.
