Spanish TV puts ’08 hopefuls into a bind

Univision, the nation’s largest Spanish-language TV network, has presented the ’08 presidential candidates with a problem. It has invited them to take part in debates in Spanish and thus forced them to choose between snubbing Spanish-speaking voters and displaying their ignorance of the language….

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) applauded the idea of a Spanish-language debate that focused on issues important to Hispanic voters.

“I think it would be terrific, I think it would be a good idea,” said Martinez, whose candidacy for RNC chairman was opposed by some conservative Republicans because of his stance on immigration reform. “I’ve been looking for ways in which I could encourage something like that happening. I think having candidates address the largest minority group in America would be a terrific thing.

“A network that the Hispanic community of America watches would be the right forum,” he said.

The situation is only exacerbated by the fact that they’re here illegally.

Uh, bagging Menendez for her campaign is just as much a twofer as Alcee Hastings. He’s as corrupt as they come. As a NJ resident, I’m quietly amazed that he hasn’t traded his pinstripes for prison stripes. He’s been under investigation for what seems like forever. If he were Republican, there’s no doubt he’d be doing 10 to 20 by now.

If Hillary really had a brain cell working when it comes to this election, she’d be looking to Florida for help, not NJ. Then again, it would also seem as though she should be asking upchucky Schumer for help, not Menendez. Schumer is corrupt enough, and he has a track record for, uh, delivering the goods on opponents in campaigns. If Rudy ends up being our nominee or our runningmate, Hillary will need all the help in her “home” state that she can get.

Mohammed Taheri-azar said he is “very sorry for the crimes [trying to run down 9 people with a Jeep] which I committed in Chapel Hill…I sincerely regret what I did…Please release me from state custody so that I may pursue my goal of living a productive life in California.”

There were many pleas at UNC that he not be called a “terrorist”, since that act wouldn’t “bring us together and help with the healing.” He hasn’t been brought to trial, and is only in the state mental hospital being “evaluated”.

Taheri-Azar, 23, said he hopes to work for his father’s general contracting company in Anaheim, Calif., and “re-establish myself as a good, caring and productive member of society.”

I’m not sure I would have used that in any argument for my release, since we’ve had a little problem with the offspring of another general contractor – the Bin Laden Corporation.

Here are Giuliani’s “Twelve Commitments,” which he is unveiling right now:

-I will keep America on offense in the Terrorists’ War on Us.
-I will end illegal immigration, secure our borders, and identify every non-citizen in our nation.
-I will restore fiscal discipline and cut wasteful Washington spending.
-I will cut taxes and reform the tax code.
-I will impose accountability on Washington.
-I will lead America towards energy independence.
-I will give Americans more control over, and access to, healthcare with affordable and portable free-market solutions.
-I will increase adoptions, decrease abortions, and protect the quality of life for our children.
-I will reform the legal system and appoint strict constructionist judges.
-I will ensure that every community in America is prepared for terrorist attacks and natural disasters.
-I will provide access to a quality education to every child in America by giving real school choice to parents.
-I will expand America’s involvement in the global economy and strengthen our reputation around the world.

I find much to be enthusiastic about in this list, understanding that the devil is in the details. So, let’s flesh this out a bit, Rudy.

If only the NY Times could spend just as much time writing an article about how a victory in Iraq could be a stepping stone to quelling the violence in the unstable Middle East and make the terrorist community think twice about detonating a nuke on American soil. Stay the course, and they’ll know we’re in for the long haul. Cutting and running will only encourage these lunatics.

No, the NYT wants to focus on what to do after we’re nuked. They just don’t get it.

Shocker. Now their teaching our youth how to cower and run from our enemies. But on the upside, their taking the time to instruct them on how to survive a nuke attack, as the result of failed foreign policy in Iraq – that was enabled and applauded by the slime printed in the NY Times.
