It’s the right-wing intellectual equivalent of Belushi’s speech at the end of Animal House. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no.
The clip only runs 2:35 but this piece at Human Events fleshes it out a bit. Note well:
A number of powerful figures in the Bush Administration and in the Senate have been saying that if we do not agree to pass this destructive bill, they will never enforce the law. Tell your senator that this is an extraordinary effort to blackmail the American people by having officials state that they will fail to perform their sworn duty, and we won’t stand for it.
His application of Reagan’s “trust but verify” adage at the end is on the money, too.

Testify, Brother Newt!
ReubenJCogburn on June 11, 2007 at 6:31 PM
Looks like someone isn’t slipping Newt enough moolah for him to hop on the immigration bandwagon. He’s got the global warming cash though.
Rode Werk on June 11, 2007 at 6:36 PM
CAN I GET AN “Aaaa—-MEN!” ?
seejanemom on June 11, 2007 at 6:37 PM
Now if he could just LOOK like The HelMitt, and raise monety like fred?, we might just have ourselves a WINNER!
seejanemom on June 11, 2007 at 6:38 PM
Speak long and loud Newt!
CrimsonFisted on June 11, 2007 at 6:40 PM
Admire him or abhor him, the man speaks the god’s honest truth….oftentimes a truth hard to hear. There is not hardly a one of them in the “congressional” roster that I would vote to return any longer. It’s time for a voter enforced term limit program! Heaven knows not one of my representatives is representing me….no matter how often I call and write!
dustoffmom on June 11, 2007 at 6:41 PM
I’d vote for him if he wasn’t unelectable. His name is just to close to Grinch. The media has a field day with that stuff.
That’s why I see Fred people everywhere. Some don’t even know they are Fred.
Rustyw on June 11, 2007 at 6:42 PM
It’s going to take the threat and leadership of a very powerful voice to call these maggots out and thwart them. Is Newt powerful enough, and respected enough?
Jaibones on June 11, 2007 at 6:42 PM
Don’t bow to Amnesty!!! ( Just Global warming, says Newt!) Snark aside, great… we need outspoken allies.
Spirit of 1776 on June 11, 2007 at 6:42 PM
Looks like Newt is a racist also. Let’s see Chertoff/Chavez attack him as a bigot.
We won’t bow to reality, but we acknowledge it. Congress does not have the Malkin’s to protect our borders.
This is a war, the people and sovereign borders against a lazy congress. A group of leaders who are afraid of taking the tough stand, making the tough decision, afraid of defending the constitution for fear of losing a few votes.
We acknowledge your weakness, congress, and we do not bow to it.
Thank you Mr. Speaker.

Arrogance cubed “I’ll see you at the bill signing“. I hope he eats his words. Tasty.
Entelechy on June 11, 2007 at 6:45 PM
Ever wonder how “I’m with Fred” website did on traffic hits compared to the other top 3 Republican contenders. In a word, he blew them out of the waters.
Kokonut on June 11, 2007 at 6:46 PM
And now, will Newt make the run, too?
Kokonut on June 11, 2007 at 6:47 PM
I like Fred! and will support him…..but I’d much rather have Newt! But don’t think he will run….so Fred! is the next best conservative just now.
dustoffmom on June 11, 2007 at 6:48 PM
Newt! Like a sweet South Carolina peach! Tasty!
SouthernGent on June 11, 2007 at 7:09 PM
Good. I want more tougher talk. I’m not a huge fan of Trent Lott but he had it right on the money when he said today about the Gonzalez resolution: “Maybe we should be considering a vote of no confidence on the Senate or on the Congress for malfunction and an inability to produce anything.”
wryteacher on June 11, 2007 at 7:37 PM
Well, that kicks it up a notch, the classic bad guy movie figure comes to mind.
Gun to the girls head and says do what I say or she gets it and then shoots her after he gets what he wants anyway.
Classic double betrayal.
As if the administration ever had any intention of doing anything but subvert our will to use any means to cram as many migrants into the US as they can possibly get away with.
Speakup on June 11, 2007 at 7:40 PM
One of the first comments I ever made on this site was a similar recitation of how long this nation’s major conflicts took to resolve.
This is just the sort of truth that needs to be long, loud, and continuous from today until November 2008. Correction, it needs to be continuous in the education of young Americans ALWAYS.
We must make students of history out of as many people as possible if our nation’s founding principles are to survive against the onslaught of soc*alism, selfishness, and unbelief.

10 million republicans X 10 cinderblocks each = 100,000,000 cinderblocks X 10 inches long = 1 billion inches or 15700 miles end to end / 700 miles of fence = 22 rows high x 6.25 inches per row……..about 14 feet tall.
10 cinderblocks @ 2.2 each = $22.00 per republican……….labor extra but hey it is a start.
Where do I send the check?

The part that I hate about this is that the amnesty types have manufactured the reality they now demand we bow to. The refused to enforce our laws and now say that if we don’t change the laws they’ll never enforce them. What makes me mad is that my senators are good conservatives who have opposed this bill at every step of the way so I have to be mad at other peoples senators. Well I can always be mad at Bush but he isn’t ever going to run for anything else.
Buzzy on June 11, 2007 at 8:47 PM
That’s a keeper! Good one!
heroyalwhyness on June 11, 2007 at 9:13 PM
But the President says we are all fearmongers for not supporting the shamnesty bill!!!!
Pfftttttt!

We don’t negotiate with terrorists, even if they are domestic.
jeffNWV on June 11, 2007 at 9:48 PM
F**k Lott. Maybe you misunderstand his meaning: he’s bitter that they didn’t pass an amnesty bill.

Amen
abinitioadinfinitum on June 11, 2007 at 10:17 PM
John & Ken are after the NYT for wishing to claim that only teethless riff-raff are against the amnesty. Play along now.
Entelechy on June 11, 2007 at 10:27 PM
I think it would play better to a mass audience if Newt had an ad agency do an CGI animated “gecko”-like “newt” speaking Gingrich’s words in little tv spots.
Walking along a partially-built border wall -in a Southeastern desert landscape- spouting random bits of political sense.
(George W. could pop up as a groundhog, with a roll of papers in his hands, trying to undermine the barrier, and say: “If you don’t pass my bill, I won’t enforce your laws.”)
profitsbeard on June 11, 2007 at 11:12 PM
Now that I am connected again and have a phone, the calls are going to start back up.
I will state my mind to those sell-out morons in DC.
Tim Burton on June 11, 2007 at 11:19 PM
Attaboy Newt! You folks should recheck your facts on the “entirety” of Newt’s position on “Global Warming”. I was alarmed thinking he had crossed to the dark side also but thats a little bit of oversimplification. Give the guy a break, he’s a real conservative, a statesman and one of the best voices we have ever had. It angers me to see some of you guys trash him over some soundbytes that don’t tell the whole story.
RobertCSampson on June 11, 2007 at 11:48 PM
Now that is how a real conservative speaks. The stark difference between the real passion and leadership from Newt and the parroting rhetoric of fred? is exactly why fred? will not get the nomination.
csdeven on June 12, 2007 at 12:08 AM
Did someone say “sweet South Carolina peach”???….you rang?
seejanemom on June 12, 2007 at 8:16 AM
…and that would be different from the current situation how, exactly?
James on June 12, 2007 at 10:37 AM
Damnit I hate this type of stuff… though I know that’s what the media does,,, are we adults, or name calling children in the school yard? I don’t give a rats ass what his name sounds like or what he looks like, I don’t really care how many times he’s been married… I think he’s got all the qualities and the experience to lead this faltering nation!
