The Republicans have always been just rank amateurs next to the card-carrying, segregationist, literacy-test-demanding Democrats.

I’d say that there is still alot of political ignorance as far as blacks are concerned. Blacks vote left because the community supports and teaches it. Parents, teachers, pastors, etc.

Even before a youngster knows the meaning of Democrat and Republican, they know they are supposed to be a dem.

i was having a conversation at the bar with a member of the democrat base in bridgeport chicago. it was eye-opening. this old guy is talking to me about his kids. suddenly he comes out with,

This is a legitimate concern. Pro-lifers clearly want a president who cares about their issues. It was a big deal this past Pro-life march when the President didn’t show up.

And yeah, black people also have issues that matter to them, issues that cause them to vote for the other party.

It doesn’t have to be pandering if Republicans make an effort to reach out to them in their own neighborhoods as was suggested.

Look, there’s always going to be something that voters identity themselves as in addition to being Americans. Some might say they’re a Christian American, others a pro-gun American. We’ve seen on these threads here that there are several issues that would disqualify a candidate among voters. It’s no different for people who identitfy with the color of their skin-American.

“Would likely show”? That’s brilliant. Basically, you don’t know and are just making your guess based on your own personal objections to Republicans.

The thing is, I don’t doubt that the party has racists in it. But I seen first hand the racism evident in main stream Democrat politics. It’s not labelled as racism, because it’s usually things like blackfacing a black man, calling minority Republicans by their various food names (orea, coconut, bannana, etc…), and somehow that’s OK in society.

This video right here is full of racism, yet you find it funny. Imagine that.

Oh, and your snark about Colin Powell and the hypocrisy made me originally think you were talking about Democrats. It’s pure hilarity to me now to realize you weren’t. As a black Republican, Powell’s put up with as much oreo and Uncle Tom crap as any. The idea that somehow as a Democrat he’ll suddenly be acceptable is the true hypocrisy here.

I have a friend who likes to do that, pretend like he’s an angry black man.

When he first came to work here (where I spend most of my time at Hot Air), he was the only black person at the company. The first weekly meeting we had with him, he took the opportunity to make us alll uncomfortable.

At the end of the meeting, during the question part, he raised his hand and complained about being the only person in the company who didn’t get the meeting email, asking if it was because he was black.

There was an uncomfortable silence before he started laughing.

He’s a great intelligent guy, but he’s no Republican unfortunately.

I will say this about the video though. I think it is true that black Republicans are sometimes taken more seriously just for being a Republican.

baldilocks, clearly your parents raised you Right even if you went Left for a short time, but black people overwhelmingly vote Democrat, so much so that black Republicans are repeatedly subjected to racist remarks. So the fact that black Republicans remain Republicans in spite of all of that is note worthy, and it makes me pay attention. Obviously the ones who stay with this party have a good reason for doing so.

It appears to me that a lot of AA’s see themselves as a monolithic group whose issues are mostly focused on skin color. I reject this mentality as do most conservatives. So how are conservatives supposed to reach people who feel that way when their message is 180 degrees diametrically opposed to that? Katrina had nothing to do with skin color. Katrina was a failure of the mayor of NO and the governor of LA. How do you reach people who are so committed to the victim mentality that they refuse to see truth on their own? The truth is there. Conservatives do not hide their goals.

I suppose that this falls under the category of “if you demonize the opposition, nobody of their right mind would want to join.”

There are traces of humor in the segment, but there are also very patronizing elements there as well. Herding people into a box to avoid a label may be clever, but it is also a bit thick.

I guess the other side doesn’t believe in free will, independent thinking, or tolerance of opposing viewpoints.

Long story short, but John McWhorter has been a critic of the black reparations movement for several years and has written several books on the subject. His basic stance is that African Americans shouldn’t need government support because they should be treated as equals and have the ability to not require a crutch for today’s society.

And this video adds him and trying to portray him as a moron.

What should have been a humorous thread has brought out the “best” in the party that “knows what is best for the black community.” I’m just waiting to see how they will treat Colin Powell if he decides to back the Dems. Hypocrisy will likely go into afterburners as they toss him under the bus. Then in the next election we’ll hear the “Doggone it why don’t they appreciate what we have done for them”

My thoughts exactly. Let any liberal, regardless of education, experience, gender, race, age, etc. face Dr. Sowell or Prof. Williams in a debate about ANY political issue. The result is a certainty; pure, unadulterated ownage.

They are rare because the Democratic party has convinced black voters that only they are out for their causes.

This argument is stupid and part of the reason why I think Republicans don’t have more minorities in their ranks. The idea that black people vote Democratic not because they’ve looked at the issues and analyzed them, but that they’re so easily conned by the Democrats into voting for a party that doesn’t work in their interests. Every black person I know chose their political affiliation willfully, not because they were tricked by one party or the other.

The video was lampooning Republicans in more ways than what people are pointing out. When Republicans main argument to get blacks to join their side is “we’re the party of Lincoln,” expect to be ridiculed.

But anyway, gee, it was a joke. But hey, maybe you didn’t get it because you’re black?

But calling out Condi? Wait! I get it now. Condi is “of color”, which means that she’s kinda “slow”. Well, it’s good to have her on board, anyway. I guess I’ve always just assumed that she was white, like me. Well bless her little heart–poor, sweet thing…
