We all knew it was coming, literally from almost the moment Rosie quit.
At least it wasn’t Margaret Cho.
Update: How much does “The View” miss Rosie? Not nearly as much as you’d think.

OH..Dear…God. Say it isn’t so…..

I don’t ever want to hear her call Bush “Chimpy” again!
MarkM on June 11, 2007 at 4:05 PM
Well color me purple.
Wade on June 11, 2007 at 4:05 PM
Did you watch her on the show? She was actually good. She was personable and didn’t talk much politics at all. She’s a smart woman, and she knows the difference between performing and being a host (unlike Rosie and Kathy Griffin). Hopefully she won’t devolve.
I’m interested in hearing more about her no longer being a Democrat, and which way she went.
But I’m probably biased because I still love Guinan. /geek
Tanya on June 11, 2007 at 4:06 PM
This better not ruin Star Trek: The Next Generation reruns for me.
Canadian Infidel on June 11, 2007 at 4:07 PM
Wow, it’s a sad situation when the best (of the potential mentioned candidates) was Ricki Lake.
Whoopi is as bad as Rosie with the “don’t argue with facts, go on feeling” crap. She literally chose to debate O’Reilly this way. She essentially admitted to being an idiot who couldn’t argue a single point because she doesn’t know anything, but she “feels” certain ways about things, and that’s all that matters. I don’t know if she’ll get dragged in to the Truther arena, but she is as big an idiot.
I do have to say I’m not surprised though… They had to hire a black woman, didn’t they?
RightWinged on June 11, 2007 at 4:07 PM
Hoping you have a good stint there whoopie.
My superior civility gene just kicked in…
allie on June 11, 2007 at 4:07 PM
Not surprised.
kiakjones on June 11, 2007 at 4:07 PM
Are you watching the View during your leisure time, babe? Be still, my heart.
Allahpundit on June 11, 2007 at 4:08 PM
I feel sorry for Elisabeth. She’s the only real loser in all of this.
Enrique on June 11, 2007 at 4:09 PM
Heh. I recorded a few episodes after Rosie left, to see what they’d say, and then I recorded a few more to see how Whoopie would behave. The audience loved her, and I thought she did just fine. She’s so freaking mellow.
Tanya on June 11, 2007 at 4:11 PM
This better not ruin Star Trek: The Next Generation dvd viewing for me . . . I have a lot of money tied up in those.
thomashton on June 11, 2007 at 4:12 PM
Oh dear lord!!!!
vcferlita on June 11, 2007 at 4:12 PM
Oh goody, replacing one far-left moonbat with someone who’s even farther out there. The View is just narrowing it’s potential audience down with every change they make.
dalewalt on June 11, 2007 at 4:12 PM
I really wanna know, what happen to her eyebrows?
Kini on June 11, 2007 at 4:15 PM
Will she appear in white face?
*mybad
locomotivebreath1901 on June 11, 2007 at 4:17 PM
Good lord. ABC is pathetic.
CP on June 11, 2007 at 4:21 PM
If we challenge her with logic and common sense, will she use the race card?
Kokonut on June 11, 2007 at 4:24 PM
well she at least tends to be somewhat rational. There was no hope of it not being a liberal, so this is not the worst possible choice by a long shot.
As for the race card, I doubt it. Remember her boyfriend Ted Danson and the black face?

Dash on June 11, 2007 at 4:27 PM
Wow. They found someone even more obnoxious and less talented than Rosie.
januarius on June 11, 2007 at 4:29 PM
thomashton - I’ll be getting those too eventually. Really, after Rosie, how bad can it get. Besides, Guinan was a listener. Maybe Whoopi was cast on that aspect of her personality.
Canadian Infidel on June 11, 2007 at 4:29 PM
Will she wear the Guinan outfit, and maybe talk to ghosts and stuff..
Viper1 on June 11, 2007 at 4:32 PM
Nah. Just the hat.
KelliD on June 11, 2007 at 4:35 PM
Whoopie at least has cognizant thoughts occasionally. Now, will Allah still stick with The View, or does he find something else to fill his time, like painting? Hopefully, he wont cut off his ear with a straight razor. :-)
csdeven on June 11, 2007 at 4:43 PM
While most of us will not agree with Whoopi’s political opinions, at least she has a “Decent” position on her mouth switch. I really cannot stand her when she switches to “Foul”, as it was mislabelled “Irreverant”.
But at least she has an IQ sufficient to keep from embarassing herself and the network most of the time, and can at least sometimes show respect for differing opinions.
stonemeister on June 11, 2007 at 4:45 PM
Sorry but I think she’s who should have had the spot to begin with.
She is liberal no doubt about that but at least she does have enough class to let other people speak and she isn’t the insecure train wreck Rosie was.
We all knew a Conservative wouldn’t get the job.
Speakup on June 11, 2007 at 4:45 PM
That’s just not fair. I think Whoopi is a very talented actress, and her non-political standup stuff, while smutty as heck, is still pretty funny. Just like most entertainers, they’re totally out of their element when they think they’re providing valuable political opinions.
stonemeister on June 11, 2007 at 4:47 PM
Still will never watch the show.
moonsbreath on June 11, 2007 at 4:56 PM
I thought she was a singing nun.
right2bright on June 11, 2007 at 4:59 PM
goodbye “The View” you had a good run…
DwnSouthJukin on June 11, 2007 at 5:00 PM
Not surprised. But I don’t watch The View anyway… as long as Rosie just goes away.
Lawrence on June 11, 2007 at 5:02 PM
She certainly can be, but have you heard her show or anything she’d had to say when she chooses to talk politics?
Speaking of Bush as a member of the female anatomy is hardly original or funny.
Even Rosie wasn’t always foaming at the mouth.
I’d like to respect Whoopi as an entertainer, and I’d like to wish her well in her professional life, but I can’t say I’m thrilled that this show has brought on another Hollywood lib to its table.
They should really start calling Hassleback “Token.”
Esthier on June 11, 2007 at 5:02 PM
RightWinged on June 11, 2007 at 4:07 PM
You’re right; an emotion driven moonbat, but not a bully. Or at least, she didn’t try to be one with O’Reilly. All things considered, it wasn’t a bad interview. She’ll be a big improvement on the View.
Canadian Infidel on June 11, 2007 at 4:07 PM
thomashton on June 11, 2007 at 4:12 PM
How could it ruin Trek? Listen, I love that show, we’ve got the whole series in our Netflix queue and we’re watching them on a 7 x 10 foot screen with 5.1 surround sound. I don’t think it can get any better. But most episodes contain a hearty helping of liberal BS. Haven’t you ever noticed?
Laura on June 11, 2007 at 5:11 PM
As long as she doesn’t hang upside down.
doufree on June 11, 2007 at 5:22 PM
Good thing I don’t watch this show (except when AP post clips) or I might have to give it up. That means more than the show but not my whole being. Tit for tat, yada yada. I can smell that women from here and she smells like a rose - ie.
mjkazee on June 11, 2007 at 5:22 PM
it was also vacous tripe that my g/f at the time insisted on watching, but those 2 things, pretty much sum up how much of a useless addition she’ll be.
Canadian Imperialist Running Dog on June 11, 2007 at 5:26 PM
Since moving back to Canada, I’ve had the opportunity to watch Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager again. The Next Generation was filled with liberal BS; I’m in total agreement.
But Deep Space Nine was a conservative’s show. War was being raged and the Federation wouldn’t back down. When the Dominion pulled back behind the Cardassian border, Sisko made the call to go in and destroy them while they were weakened. The entire war arc wasn’t very liberal. The Federation may have been conflicted, but they were more than ready to fight.
As to Voyager, Janeway was also pretty aggressive. It’s hard to classify her as liberal or conservative since she had no support with regards to her decisions, but she seemed to be a hawk.
Could it be the more conservative each Captain became, the less the series was enjoyed by liberals?
Canadian Infidel on June 11, 2007 at 5:28 PM
Canadian Infidel on June 11, 2007 at 5:28 PM
Heh, I guess I should give DS9 and Voyager another look - I never really got into either, but that was more due to lack of time to watch regularly than anything else.
Laura on June 11, 2007 at 5:37 PM
Laura on June 11, 2007 at 5:37 PM
Please do. I watch DS9, especially after 9/11, and I see it as a very conservative show. Once the Federation is at war with the Dominion, the show really took off. There were liberal moments spread in, but if the Federation was going to win, conservatives would be in charge.
Voyager was horribly reviewed at the time. But now, it’s a cool show. I think that people were growing sick of 10 plus years of Star Trek.
Canadian Infidel on June 11, 2007 at 5:48 PM
Please no. Why oh why? Is there anyone at the View with half a brain? She already has a radio show (is it still on the air?) and now THIS?
CrimsonFisted on June 11, 2007 at 5:51 PM
Jumping Jack Flash! Oh, yeah…it had to happen. And as has been stated here, she can actually hold a rather reasonable conversation. Unlike Rosie “you’re wrong, I’m right” O’Donnell.
Meh…first guest, Ted Danson?
JetBoy on June 11, 2007 at 5:52 PM
Well, I had the View back on the DVR list, hoping Kathy Griffin would get the job (way funnier than Whoopi, and respectfully, I disagree–Whoopi isn’t “mellow” on the show, she just doesn’t speak, which makes her boring). KG’s at least funny when she’s not talking politics. Thanks for the update, AP, now I know to take it back off the list.

She was in 150 movies?
The Enterprise E redeemed many sins. That ship was cool.
Iblis on June 11, 2007 at 6:11 PM
I like her and am happy….I like her because she takes the time to listen..she may not agree, but she will give another the courtesy of listening to them and not belittling them…at least on The View and O’Reilly.
Pam on June 11, 2007 at 6:25 PM
She has a radio show? I thought Air America died a long time ago.
Laura on June 11, 2007 at 6:32 PM
no fu*kin’ way!
Opinionnation on June 11, 2007 at 6:33 PM
Dare to guess why?
SouthernGent on June 11, 2007 at 6:33 PM
Whoopi has NEVER been funny. Or talented. Just like Rosie, a 5th rate comic, that has been propped up by the liberal media.
bmac on June 11, 2007 at 6:37 PM
I do not care! Good lord, can we be done with all things “the View” and “Rosie”……..I don’t care!!!!!
dustoffmom on June 11, 2007 at 6:45 PM
Very good substitute. She is interesting, intelligent, gracious, soft spoken, and most importantly - not nuts.
Unless she’s a closet moon-bat which I doubt she is.
I honestly can’t think of a better substitute.
AlexB on June 11, 2007 at 6:49 PM
Of course they loved her. They know she’s a liberal, they’re idiots cut from the same cloth. And yeah, she’ll be laid back at first, but give her some time and she’ll be spewing the same crap as rosie.
forged rite on June 11, 2007 at 7:17 PM
I guess you haven’t seen her much outside of movies. One time she was on the old Politically Incorrect (when it was on abc) expounding on the joys of communism. Even Bill Maher told her she didn’t know what she was talking about. So if she’s too liberal for Bill Maher, it’s safe to say that at the very least she’s a moonbat.
forged rite on June 11, 2007 at 7:22 PM
Does this mean the set of the View will be changed into that of Hollywood Squares?
vanderleun on June 11, 2007 at 7:28 PM
TNG alot of the time was like a liberal fantasy world. They have technology that could easily solve thier problems but somehow they still get stuck in life threating moral dilemmas. Whoopi Goldberg was right in the middle of this sometimes, but she could also fire a gun!
Voyager has a certain pioneering spirit. Janeway wasnt afraid to shoot first sometimes when the situation calls for it.
Resolute on June 11, 2007 at 7:45 PM
Tanya,
Don’t be fooled. Whoopie is every bit the moonbat. Her packaging is certainly superior to the O’Truther, and her wit undeniable. But she is just as politically wacked, and just as infected with BDS.
Resolute, nice concise analysis. TNG was way too feelgood, too much political background and baggage. Voyager was people having to do whatever was necessary to survive.
Freelancer on June 11, 2007 at 7:55 PM
Whoopi also hosted the first Oscars after 9/11 and made a point of thanking the firefighters, but not the military.
forged rite on June 11, 2007 at 8:10 PM
Why another lesbian? Does Barbara have some closet she’s trying to get out of? This has to be the most assinine PC choice possible. If Babwa was sticking with lesbians, she should have went with Tammy Bruce or Camille Paglia, at least.
roninacreage on June 11, 2007 at 8:17 PM
Oh. Good. God.
Yet another ‘woman’ that will send my libido running for the hills.
infidel4life on June 11, 2007 at 8:30 PM
Did they even try Jeannie Garofalo? Thank god I have a day job but I am sure we will be subjected to our daily View outrage of the day topic over here.
I hear Perky Katie Couric may be looking for a morning gig since that afternoon one ain’t working out too good.
LakeRuins on June 11, 2007 at 8:35 PM
I would no more watch this woman than I would Rosie. She is a cheap whore, ignorant, foul mouthed and way in over her head. I wish The View ill!
NEMETI IN SYRACUSE on June 11, 2007 at 8:53 PM
as if i wanted to watch the view any more now I certainly don’t want naything to do with htem :-p
Lets have a countdown til how long til Whoopi says something as freakin dumb as Rosie does?
Defector01 on June 11, 2007 at 9:10 PM
Defector, I think she’s a lot smarter than Rosie, with a great deal more self-control. She’s more likely to bomb for not being controversial enough than for being a train wreck like Rosie.
Roninacreage, as far as I know, she’s not a lesbian - she’s had some very public boyfriends, for example - but even if she were, why is that pertinent?
Nemeti - jeez, switch to decaf! :-)
Laura on June 11, 2007 at 9:51 PM
Is Ted Danson gonna do his lastest minstrel act for us too?
Or is he just gonna talk about how, OMG!, All the world’s oceans are gonna be dead by 1999 if we don’t…oh, wait.
It’s 2007.
Never mind.
Teddy on June 11, 2007 at 11:39 PM
Is there any doubt that Hollywood, television, and the mainstream media are predominently liberla, and biased toward the left wing, liberal mindset?
Of course not!
William
William2006 on June 11, 2007 at 11:41 PM
Of the others that were considered Whoopie really was a great choice. I never watch TV, let alone The View outside of what I see posted on the web here. I’ve seen her with Sean from time to time and she handled herself pretty well. I don’t know how she lives down the anti-abort gig she did when she said “Honey child, this thing (pointing you know where) belongs to us and no govenment is gonna tell me what I can do with it..” (parphrased) let see how she shakes out. I know Vent will keep us updated.
“Exit Question”: Who cares?
auspatriotman on June 12, 2007 at 12:28 AM
Here I was, blithely assuming that all “magical Negroes” were men. Of course, as soon as I was reminded of Guinan, I thought of The Oracle in The Matrix, too.
Kralizec on June 12, 2007 at 3:26 AM
Okay, I only watch the show when Allah posts clips so I guess it doesn’t affect me one way or the other but another moonbat-whooopeeee!
Catie96706 on June 12, 2007 at 9:46 AM
Isn’t Whoopie a type of cushion that spews farts when its under pressure?
pappy on June 12, 2007 at 9:53 AM
She addressed this type of thinking and says that she has had a change of heart on many issues…againg/maturity will do that.
Pam on June 12, 2007 at 11:13 AM
Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, and Quasimodo
were all talking one day.
Sleeping Beauty said, “I believe myself to be the
most beautiful girl in the world.”
Tom Thumb said, “I must be the smallest
person in the world.”
Quasimodo said, “I absolutely have to be the most
disgusting person in the world.”
So they all decided to go to the Guinness Book of
World
Records to have their claims verified.
Sleeping Beauty went in first and came out
looking deliriously happy.
“It’s official, I AM the most beautiful girl in the
world.”
Tom Thumb went next and emerged triumphant,
“I am now officially the smallest person in the
world.”
Sometime later, Quasimodo comes out looking
utterly confused and says,
“Who the heck is Rosie O’Donnell ?
