Sorry for going off the topic of AP’s post (readiness to bomb Iran). I was commenting on Reid’s inane response to Joementum – in explaining his perspective of how the US is ill-prepared to confront Iran because of all the resources we’ve squandered in Iraq, he created a laundry list of ALL of Bush’s Middle East failures that have been compounded by Iraq. My quote is from Reid’s rambling. Sorry for the confusion.

But what exactly does the Majority Leader suggest that the President do: twist Olmert’s arm to give the Hamas led PA to give up even more land for peace?

They’ve apparently accepted that military action may be necessary, and will support Bush should he choose this route have no option remaining except the military one. I don’t like the idea that we’d just be hitting the nuke sites. If……

Iranian ambassador to UN files complaint with Security Council about comments Olmert, Mofaz made regarding military attack on Iran

WASHINGTON – Iran has filed an official complaint with the United Nations Security Council criticizing statements made by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz regarding the possibility of a military attack on the Iranian nuclear facilities.

The letter was presented Monday evening to acting president of the Security Council, the Belgian Ambassador to the UN.

The protest came in response to statements made by Mofaz during a visit to Washington last week, heading an Israeli delegation that held strategic discussions with the US dealing mostly with the Iranian nuclear threat.

At a press conference, Mofaz responded to a reporter’s question by saying that “the military option is included in all the options that are on the table…”

Nobody has ruled it out

The complaint also refers to an interview that Prime Minister Olmert gave the German publication Focus. The letter quotes Olmert as saying: “Nobody is ruling it out…It is impossible perhaps to destroy the entire nuclear program but it would be possible to damage it in such a way that it would be set back years… It would take 10 days and 1,000 Tomahawk cruise missiles.”

Despite Olmert denying having made the statement and the German publication retracting the quote on its internet site, the Iranians decided to appeal to the Security Council asking it to act in response to Israel’s threats and demand that Israel operate in accordance with international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.

Following statements made by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad about wiping Israel off the map, Israel filed a similar complaint to the Security Council and the UN secretary general.
