Video: Lieberman feeling froggy towards Iran

Expect a fresh round of pretty vicious rants and important action alerts from our friends on the left over this, as their famed toughness on terrorism alas imagines not only taking no tough action against Iran (even if limited to assassinations, as Glenn Reynolds learned) but politely avoiding even the mere suggestion of it. Bombing is not, in fact, a good option at the moment, but threats of bombing might be. The more paranoid the regime gets, the more they choke their own public, the greater backlash they risk.
He mentions Iranian camps at which Iraqi Shiites are being trained to kill U.S. troops, but doesn’t say which he has in mind. Could be the one outside Tehran that the Times of London reported on in April. Or it could be the one in Ahwaz where, coincidentally, you’ll find a replica of the layout of the government complex in Karbala — the same complex where five U.S. soldiers were captured and murdered in January during a mysterious raid which Petraeus himself has blamed on the Iranian-backed Khazali network and the Quds Force. (That’s the same Khazali network U.S. troops have been targeting in Sadr City over the past few months.) Or maybe he’s thinking of some other camp where they train Hezbollah to operate the 20,000 rockets they’re reported to have amassed in southern Lebanon, some of them long-range, right under the noses of the UN and the Lebanese army.
Or maybe those are all secondary concerns and he’s really worried about this:
A British company has been closed down after being caught in an apparent attempt to sell black-market weapons-grade uranium to Iran and Sudan, The Observer can reveal.
Anti-terrorist officers and MI6 are now investigating a wider British-based plot allegedly to supply Iran with material for use in a nuclear weapons programme. One person has already been charged with attempting to proliferate ‘weapons of mass destruction’…
Investigators are understood to have evidence that Iran was to receive the uranium to help develop a nuclear weapons capability. ‘They may argue that the material is for civilian use but it does seem an extremely odd way to procure uranium,’ said Berry…
Details of the plot arrive against a backdrop of increasing co-operation between Sudan and Iran on defence issues, although the level of involvement, if any, of the governments in Khartoum and Tehran in the alleged nuclear plot is unclear.
There’s also a tantalizing mention that “[i]nvestigators believe they have uncovered the first proof that al-Qaeda supporters have been actively engaged in developing an atomic capability,” but the article doesn’t elaborate. Expect more next Sunday or from the Guardian during the week.
Update: Meanwhile, Barack Obama’s newest foreign policy advisor gives “dialogue” a big thumbs up.

It’s like Bush is morphing into Lieberman. Strong on TWOT, but pretty weak everywhere else.
Maybe Bush is secretly a jooooooo!

Come on people, what we need here is Silky and his Peace & Love Brigade.

I was a Lieberman fan until he teamed with Gore and he abandoned many of his principles. After that shameless run in 2000 I am not sure I could ever trust him again. He says all the right things but can he stay the coarse or will he revert once again to gain power?

That odor is the smell of all the other Democrats suddenly soiling themselves…

Oh, they want to get tough on terrorist states, alright.
The rub is the only state they believe is truly terrorist is our own.

I remember reading Colin Powell’s biography years ago, and recommending it to all I knew. A love affair long cooled down and bitter to recall. Perceived cojones gone to complete wussitude.
This is a somewhat confused man, I hope. The other alternative w/b that he was a political fake. That w/b the biggest shame. I’ve been wondering lately a lot about Mr. Bush 43, on the same topic.

“Incontrovertible”? Joe’s been watching the new Harry Potter Trailer.
Sorry, it plays hour after hour where I work on our TV displays.

My guess is that the US has been doing in Iran the same thing that the Iranians have been doing in Iraq to US soldiers.
There are riots and “terrorist” attacks on Iranian cops and soldiers, there have been some mysterious plane crashes with some high ranking RGC commanders, defections of scientists, secret covert operations nobody knows anything about…
What the Iranians are doing is, IMO, a retaliation to what the US has been doing for a long while. Not to say that I like what Iran is doing. I’m just saying it’s a natural response.
I also think that bombing bases inside Iran will make Iran escalate their own covert ops in Iraq, and at the same time to bomb Sunni neighbours who provide military support to the US.
Lastly, I think that Lieberman’s kind of talk will not “generate backlash” against the regime. It’ll generate some animosity, but it will also generate patriotism and unity.
It’s one thing to be pissed at someone telling you what to wear, but it’s another thing when “Shatan Akbar” is bombing your beloved country.
Lieberman’s performance just gave Ahmedinazi some propaganda material.

I pretty much agreed with everything Mr. Lieberman said except for the part about Fatah being our buddies.

When do we start bombing Teheran? Let’s stop screwing around.
Start with blowing up our old embassy, American property that they still hold.
Do their Paliament.
Do their military and Rev. Guards HQ.
Do the residences of their mullahs and that “leader.”
Then spread the “good news” to their:
single oil refinery,
their oil terminals,
their military installations in or near Hormuz,
their terrorist “training camps,”
their air and naval bases,
and every known nuke development location.
Repeat until all target are hammered and the rubble is bounced.
And if they don’t then cease their 28 year war on America, remind them that the United States is a NUCLEAR SUPERPOWER and that they won’t want to see first hand what we can actually do when we’re pissed.
georgej on June 10, 2007 at 3:48 PM
But they [Iran] can’t believe that they have immunity for training and equipping people to come in and kill Americans. We cannot let them get away with it. If we do, they’ll take that as a sign of weakness on our part and we will pay for it in Iraq and throughout the region and ultimately right here, at home.
Amen to that. The “I” in frot of his name seems to have freed him up.

Well, it’s all been in the news. Including the secret covert programs outed by the US press. I didn’t make any of this up, if that’s what you’re implying. Most of the stuff I’ve mentioned has been written about on this blog.

McCain sang us a song about bombing Iran. Joe just gives us a speech!
They are at war with us. When are we going to be at war with them? Answer: After we’re nuked. Maybe after we’re nuked a few times.

The nutroots are not happy. Then again, when are they ever?

Push the button on them. Ahhh. The days when men spoke like men.

Don’t worry…
Joe Wilson(D) is going to debunk this myth.
DANEgerus on June 10, 2007 at 10:25 PM
Joe would make one hell of a Republican. C’mon over Joe. You make more sense than half of our bunch of crybabies anyway. You’ve got the right ideas, just the wrong party.
You go, Joe.

Overtime–It’s refreshing to see a politician say what he really thinks instead of what he thinks will play well in the polls. Give ‘em hell, Joe! So nice to see an honest politician. Come on over to the RIGHT side!
