Video: Gates says he was warned not to renominate Pace

posted at 2:20 pm on June 8, 2007 by Allahpundit

He doesn’t say which congressmen or even which party warned him, but the boss notes an NBC News story that solves the mystery. Gates obviously wasn’t happy about the situation, which is why he took the unusual step here of revealing closed-door communications. The Democrats want Iraq scalps to take back to their constituents; here’s another one.

For a guy sold as a low-key alternative to Rumsfeld, he sure has had some interesting moments thus far in his press conferences, huh?

Divorce from Rumsfeld complete – dems claim ‘victory’.

With approval ratings in the toilet, what choice does this lamest duck administration have at this point?

Like I said on another thread, because the Presidency and both houses of Congress are suffering from voter dissatisfaction and fatigue, it’s a new ball game going in to ’08 and a great opportunity for conservatives.

Top priority is to stop donating to the Republican Party so they can begin to clean house and change direction. You can even send a message by changing your Party affiliation like I did.

The Dems have determined that losing the war is all taht matters now. they will do everything in their power to achieve that end and they are doing it by adhering to the maxim that the only way to win a war is to make your enemy lose the will to wage war. They are suceeding very well at that once you realize they view the American people as the enemy. They have sucked the will of the average American to wage war almost completely out. They will gain a political victory but at what price? They fail to realize that they will pay the price right alongside the rest of us. The real enemy is not bothered by making such distinctions.

I just printed up, filled out, and mailed away my new voter registration from the California DMV website a couple of days ago. For the first time in my entire adult life, I am no longer registered as Republican. It hurt me and felt good at the same time.

As for the donations to Republicans, I will donate to individual candidates of my choosing as I always have, but I will no longer be sending the RNC my regular donation. My next step is to contact the RNC and demand they take me off their mailing & phone call list. I get a-lot of solicitations from them.

Of course, if they get their feces compacted, I can and will go back to the status quo at any time. It’s ENTIRELY UP TO THEM when, and if, that happens.

All that remains is to find out which candidate is going to pick Al Sadr as a running mate. If the Amnesty gets passed I think he would be eligible.

Congratulations!

I’ve been a life-long Republican and believe me, it wasn’t easy for me either.

Everything you say is true but the Dems will still blame Bush for the next 50 years for everything that goes wrong.
I fear that America is over due for a huge wake up call. Unfortunately I do not think it will wake everyone up to who the real enemy is . THEY will still blame Bush, even for a radical religious agenda that has been going on for centuries. The Left is not only ignorant but stupid as well!

abinitioadinfinitum on June 8, 2007 at 3:09 PM

Well, it seems to work.

tomas on June 8, 2007 at 3:14 PM

So much for the Commander in Chief. Obviously the Executive branch is now being run by the Legislative.

Kini on June 8, 2007 at 3:34 PM

Last question was a good one. Not sure what the (assume leftist) was looking for there, but it’s a good question.

Bush should get real balls and bring Gates out with him for a press conference. He should look at Gates and say “I am sick and tired of people in this administration shooting off they mouths. Gates grab your shit and get out of here “You’re fired”

Wade on June 8, 2007 at 5:06 PM

If there is one thing that Bush has been rightly criticized for over 6+ years is cronyism. He has appointed one person after another as political favors, some reaching back to his father’s administration. Gates is another in this long line and Gen Pace was not. Guess who gets shown the door.

Even more damning to Pace’s chances, though, were his comments concerning homosexuality. Do you think the Dems weren’t going to make an example of him?

cmay on June 8, 2007 at 5:42 PM

This is Bullshit. Pace was a great General and an honorable Marine.

The Dems are going to ruin our military by turning it into a wussified, nutered force who is real good at being nice and PC, but can’t fight a damn war…

Kini on June 8, 2007 at 3:34 PM

It’s disgusting ain’t it? And we haven’t seen half of it yet.

OBX Pete on June 8, 2007 at 7:15 PM

First, Gen. Pace is not in “operational” control of the US Military. It used to be that the Joint Chiefs were the top of the military chain of command. The Goldwater-Nichols DOD Reorganizatiion Act changed that. Now they provide a critical administrative and consultation role to the President. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs (Gen. Pace in this case) is the President’s chief military advisor.

The chain of command for the combat commands runs from the President through the SecDef and then to the commanders of each combat command.

What Gates did was a cowardly act. Gen. Peter Pace has been an exemplary military officer and the first Marine to be the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He has served with honor and competence. Gates has allowed the Democrats to “mau-mau” Pace and for no good reason.

It won’t stop the Traitor Party from continuing to destroy the Bush Presidency. It won’t stop them from demanding even more scalps. It was APPEASEMENT. One thing is certain: You can’t appease traitor-f*cks like the Democrats.

General Pace will, as the good officer he is, say “yessir”, salute, and retire as a full 4 start general officer. I, as the father of a US Marine, thank him for his service, and wish him the best.

His replacement Admiral Mike Mullen will be a competent Chairman. And I wish him the best of luck. He is going to need it considering the nest of traitors that the Democratic Party has become.

As for Gates, I call him faithless because loyalty must run DOWN the chain as well as up.

Gates, as President of Texas A&M University, was the advocate of ‘diversity over tradition’ in his tenure there.
Another one of those, “What a great University, lets change it” types…y’all got him, now y’all keep him…don’t try to send him back to us.

DoctorDentons on June 9, 2007 at 6:34 AM

Bill Gates should not even be involved in the solution, imo.

(wink)

Kevin M on June 9, 2007 at 12:45 PM

Surprised Gates didn’t blame the cultural bigotry and nativism of the base, somehow.
