Actually, in an unbelievably high minded move (for him), Sharpton did say that a white coal miner's daughter or a black hip hop singer wouldn't have gotten the same treatment. My reply to that: hip hop stars wouldn't get the same treatment because so many of them brag about being criminals, it would have been better if you'd stayed with the common man when looking for a black example.

I saw something interesting on Fox yesterday. They had a defense attorney and a prosecuter on to debate whether Paris was getting celebrity justice. I correctly presumed that the defense attorney was going to be a snake, but it went beyond my expectations. She actually tried to argue that Paris was being treated harsher than she would have if she weren't famous. She cited the fourty some day sentance as evidence of her claim, even though that has been totally irrelevant since they cut it in half. I think that was the only thing she could point to though. It reinforced something I've long believed: never trust a lawyer, especially a defense attorney.

You know, Al Sharpton is protesting. I really dislike Sharpton, but I have to agree with him on this one. She’s getting preferential treatment and should go back to jail. If it were some poor black dude, he’d rot before they’d let him out for “medical reasons.”

I agree to an extent. I too dislike Sharpton, and I too feel Paris should NOT recieve any special treatment. But Sharpton is a snake and is only jumping on this to further his racist agenda. Even poor whites are subject to no liniency and without the race card as a get out of jail free card.

It's the Rich - White AND Black that the laws don't apply to.

Did you know that, in Pennsylvania, if your drivers license is suspended for a DUI, and if you drive while under that suspension you get a Mandatory minimum 90 days jail. (180 days max).

Justice is the issue . . . if she can be on home detention then everybody else in that jail with a similar offense and sentence should also be put on home detention.

Good idea... "The Simple Life: Home Detention".

Since she's too delicate to reamin in prison, join Paris Hilton at her house as she plays hostess to 20 former Women's State Penitentiary residents who will join her to serve their Home Detention!

(come on; someone was gonna use that line!)

Well, it's a women's jail, staffed by a massive majority of female Deputys, so I doubt that's how it worked. That is, if my dirty mind interpreted what you were saying correctly.

Limerick has it correct…hospitalization soon. ( doc’s can be bought too ya know)

People in jail get medical treatment all the time, either on site, or brought to the local hospital, treated, and hauled back to jail. IF her family can get a doctor who wants to play games like that, he or she had better have a REALLY good story, because it'll be all over the news, other doctors will be on the air critiquing the diagnosis, etc. What doctor wants to be under that kind of national scrutiny for a BS diagnosis?

When, oh when will that excuse for a sheriff, Baca, be frog-marched into court on contempt charges? Hmmm? I live in LA county and this d!ckwad gives CCWs to celebrities, lets them out of jail, and basically blows anyone that's rich and famous. Me, I just want a CCW and I gotta jump through hoops and then I still don't get one.

The sad part, is that I have a feeling you knew those already and did not have to look them up. Nice review.

I hope they put her back in the poky.
Preferential treatment? How obvious can it get.

Treacher, if you stop by, here's one for RedEye you could pass on to your pals... I can't believe Levy didn't use it the other night when he covered the fact that Paris was being prevented from receiving any packages in prison. Gutfeld made some joke about a cake with a dildo baked inside, when the obvious joke was for he (or actually Levy probably) to say, "Greg, this marks the first time in Paris's adult life that she hasn't received at least one package for 3 consecutive days." (or some other derivative of that). I was just disappointed, that there was an entire story on "packages" and not even Levy knocked it out.

Bullocks. I got busted for DUI in Georgia in 2002. Here, they don't play. Minimum sentence on first offense: 2 to 30 days jail, 1 year driver's license suspension, 1 year probation with minimum 60 days supervised (must visit P.O. weekly), 40 hours hard labor (which must be completed within 30 days of sentence), DUI education course (3 full days and $600), plus a $1,000 fine. Judges DO NOT have discretion except the length of the jail term, which cannot be less than 48 hours.

It was made VERY clear to me that if I violated probation I WOULD do the remainder of the 30 days IN JAIL, PLUS go back to court for a probation violation which would add another 30-90 days, not to mention have my D/L suspension doubled to two years.

Overall, it was a terrible experience. You can bet your A__ that I won't ever do anything to get in trouble with the law again.

Paris got off with a slap on the wrist for first driving drunk and then for violating probation TWICE. Maybe that's how they do things in California, but not in the rest of the country.

You should take some of this white-hot ardency for Truth, Justice and the American Way and use it contacting the knaves who let Sandy Berger go with a mild admonishment.

There have been three classes of justice in the US for several years: 1) the wealthy (politicians, sports stars and celebrities of any race), 2) most of the rest of us and 3) poor people of color. What's with the sudden outrage?

Oh, and Martha Stewart.
