Watch Dorgan and ask yourself, per Geraldo, who’s really being “opportunistic” here. As for his super-keen idea about making illegals earn citizenship through military service, if you think John Kerry and Charlie Rangel are shrill now when they talk about an army of the poor and uneducated, wait until Geraldo’s plan gets off the ground. Imagine the pride we’d feel in our armed forces knowing we’ve filled the ranks by exploiting foreigners’ economic hardships. [...]

Speech was good too. Not many real orators in the Senate, on either side, who say things worth listening to.

Tough border security talk…..from a Democrat

A true Dem is supposed to care about working American families – the little guy. Any Dem even remotely in touch with his constituents knows exactly how illegal immigration, and massive new immigration affects them and how they feel about this issue. They are being squeezed out of factory jobs by outsourcing (esp to China) and now they are being squeezed out of the trades and other blue collar jobs by illegal immigrants. Some Dems are willing to sell these people out for a new dependent class of reliable votes. Guys like this are not.

TUA, this is how things work when an issue doesn’t break down to “us vs. them”; people on both sides of the aisle arguing both sides of the issue. Been a long, long time since it was this way, as best I can tell.

As for Dorgan — for whom I have rarely had any respect or admiration — his last statement on what they ought to be doing is Letter Perfect. Many have said the same exact thing here on this page over the last months.
