Video: Scarborough sneers at basement-dwelling bloggers over Polegate

According to his cohort, we’re not “real journalists.” True enough. If you want to see a real journalist in action, check out this Murrow-esque blockbuster from a few months ago. That’s how you earn the big money from 30 Rock, baby. Well, that, and refracting the entire war on terror through the prism of soft Trutherism.

The Palmetto Scoop wonders: If Scarborough’s so sure that what he said about “working the pole” was innocent, why won’t he repeat the phrase in this clip? Answer, once again per the Scoop: because he obviously intended it to have a double meaning and knows that he’s been caught. It’s not the end of the world; no one’s calling for him to be fired. But rather than ‘fess up, he’d rather swing away at bloggers. Whatever. The guy follows Olbermann every night; his life’s hard enough, I guess, without us hassling him.

Sellout, thy name is Scarborough.

Parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme and now Joe.

We have bigger fish to fry than pole dancing double entendres. Kill the immigration bill. Defeat Hillary. Etc.

dostrick on June 6, 2007 at 4:41 PM

Living your life forever associated with Simon and Garfunkel…tough.

StoutRepublican on June 6, 2007 at 4:52 PM

why won’t he repeat the phrase in this clip?

Good gawd, is “pole” now banned like “ho”? How about “pollster”? Poor Frank Luntz is out of a job.

Brat on June 6, 2007 at 4:53 PM

meh, the video that was originally shown was taking it out of context… not that it excuses him from the joke, but it was made to sound like something that it wasn’t. I think that basement bit is funny… far as I know AP, RW, Bryan, Michelle, and company are all people with jobs outside of blogging, and they don’t use their basements…. though, I guess Michelle does use her closet if I recall correctly…

j_ehman on June 6, 2007 at 4:53 PM

Sure. But pointing out breathtaking hypocrisy is the order of the day…and that’s where we’re going.

As for Joe-the-Victim-of-Basement-Bloggers-Who-Quote-Out-of-Context-and-Twist -our-Meaning, he can GFH.

Lying piece of crap, why don’t you want to say “work the pole”, Joe?

Jaibones on June 6, 2007 at 4:59 PM

Joe’s digging the wrong way. Up, Joe, not down!

thegreatbeast on June 6, 2007 at 5:02 PM

Yes indeedy, old Scarborough definitely belongs at MSNBC. He fits in quite nicely with the other talking head dolts at that network.

rplat on June 6, 2007 at 5:03 PM

No, here are the “real” journalists:

Editor Admits: We Slanted the News [Israeli Media Admits Anti-War Agenda]

Joe’s a coward. “I know them, so it’s ok. But I won’t repeat it because it really wasn’t ok. It’s the damn bloggers fault anyway.”

You think he’d be smart enough to just say he made a joke in poor taste and leave it at that. No instead, like many Libs, he’s got to find someone to blame his mistake on. yes, Joe is now officially just a victim. POS.

TheBigOldDog on June 6, 2007 at 5:06 PM

You guys aren’t basement-dwelling bloggers, you’re closet dwelling bloggers! I remember the video!

Tim Burton on June 6, 2007 at 5:08 PM

Joe’s taking himself out of context!

jdpaz on June 6, 2007 at 5:10 PM

I heard/read the entire clip on Newsbusters that began with Joe Scarblower talking to the tri-athlete who pole dances. His “Taken out of context” excuse still doesn’t cut it. Out of the blue he begs the question of Fred’s wife. No class whatsoever.

I wonder what was the “I’m gonna tell you a Fred Thompson joke in a second” he mentions? That clip doesn’t have it.

Brat on June 6, 2007 at 5:14 PM

Off Topic: Skin cells can be turned into embryonic stem cells without the embryo (in mice, but no reason to think it won’t work in humans too). No need for cloning, no need for destruction of human life, no need for govt. money spent on that method. Let’s see how widely this gets reported.

The Apologist on June 6, 2007 at 5:24 PM

This is really getting out of hand.
Who cares what Scarborough says in about Fred!’s wife in a private conversation.

billy on June 6, 2007 at 5:43 PM

So does Thompson’s wife work the pole? Seriously.

Nonfactor on June 6, 2007 at 5:47 PM

I broke my promise to myself and went ahead and donated to FDT today. Not the mortgage but a donation none the less….

This is the subject line of my confirmation e-mail:

To: ############.com
Subject: SUSPECT Thank you for your donation.

I guess I better pack the bags and kiss the grandkids adios.

Limerick on June 6, 2007 at 5:52 PM

You guys really need to pace yourselves. At this rate you won’t have any bile left for the election.

Jim Treacher on June 6, 2007 at 5:53 PM

I resent being called a basement-dwelling blogger.

I live on the second floor.

Tantor on June 6, 2007 at 6:01 PM

Look at me!

No.

spd rdr on June 6, 2007 at 6:16 PM

Joe who?

Honestly, does anyone besides Scarbrough’s immediate family watch his show? If it weren’t for clips on this site and others, I couldn’t tell you if MSNBC was even on basic cable anymore.

Fred on June 6, 2007 at 6:27 PM

Brat on June 6, 2007 at 4:53 PM

Go ask your mom if she works the pole and then get back to us on that one……..

doriangrey on June 6, 2007 at 6:44 PM

Scarborough has been unwatchable for a number of years now. Essentially, he was a Bush-hating conservative before Bush-hating became cool amongst conservatives. He’s a man before his time, it would appear.

SisterToldjah on June 6, 2007 at 7:28 PM

Yes, Joe, context did reduce, by a small margin, the insult which your tasteless question was begging. No, it doesn’t help to blame others for using your words against you.

Cherry-picking words? Only a non-journalist would ever do such a thing.

Freelancer on June 6, 2007 at 7:29 PM

The big nooz shocker out of this is that Joe Scarborough has a radio show.

Who knew?

Steve LLamabutcher on June 6, 2007 at 7:44 PM

What a pathetic sellout.

Joe, you are a tool.

msipes on June 6, 2007 at 9:04 PM

This is really getting out of hand. Who cares what Scarborough says in about Fred!’s wife in a private conversation.

billy on June 6, 2007 at 5:43 PM

Uh…on live television? I do.

Jaibones on June 6, 2007 at 9:51 PM

It doesn’t matter because fred? and Jeri will be irrelevant by this time next year if he don’t wise up. Just as Scarborough is today.

csdeven on June 6, 2007 at 10:39 PM

Uh…on live television? I do.

Jaibones on June 6, 2007 at 9:51 PM

By the rules, it’s live television, but realistically what’s the diff between MSNBC in the Morning and a private conversation?

billy on June 7, 2007 at 12:10 AM

I used to like Joe. Sad. But maybe not as sad as me, I DO blog from my basement!

gmoonster on June 7, 2007 at 1:40 AM

doriangrey on June 6, 2007 at 6:44 PM

?…Maybe you “misinterpretated” my comment or meant it for Nonfactor at 5:47?. My comment was meant as sarcasm. Joe Blow wouldn’t even say the word “pole” as he tried to weasel out of that classless, tasteless “botched joke” as if repeating it would get him fired like Imus.

As for my dearly departed mother, her answer would be “Yes, of course, you know every November I WORK THE POLLS for the Republicans.”

Brat on June 7, 2007 at 8:24 AM

If all that true then way can’t you say POLE DANCING Joe? Why not?

Dread Pirate Roberts VI on June 7, 2007 at 9:41 AM

billy on June 7, 2007 at 12:10 AM

Heh. Fair enough.

Jaibones on June 7, 2007 at 3:51 PM

Common Fred’s wife is HOT and 25 years younger. YEA! Now we are talking Family values Baby! Please get the stick out of you know where. So when Fred was 40 she was a freshman in high school, eweeeeee. AND HE IS THE GREAT GOP HOPE? ha ha ha ha ha. He’s divorced too-boot with 4 kids, 3 from wife #1 and 1 form wife #2. I guarantee the ex-wife and ex-kids hate the young wife who will get all his money! ha ha ha ha. He is all American.

Joe is pretty fair, and to be fair you have to present the liberal side as well.

You lock steppers can’t stand balance or even hearing other views. That is your problem. If you are not quoting Rush “pill popper” or GOP talking points and rhetoric, every time all the time, you call it liberal bias.
