Video: “Sands of Passion,” episode five

I have this sneaking suspicion that we’re neglecting big stories on the blog today but I honestly don’t know what they might be. I have nothing insightful to say about the Turkish incursion into Kurdistan, nor does anyone else from what I’ve read. Obviously if Turkish troops linger, they’re going to risk a full-on confrontation with the pesh merga and that’ll mean (maybe) spoiling the one major success story in Iraq. As for the shamnesty bill, Michelle is liveblogging the floor debate. The GOP is trying to introduce amendments to water it down; if they succeed, they risk alienating the liberals who have endorsed the bill such that the whole thing could collapse. Cornyn’s amendment — which would have banned felons from obtaining Z visas — has already failed for reasons known only to god and the amnesty lobby. Reid is insisting on a cloture vote tomorrow; if the GOP filibusters it, he says he’ll pull the bill entirely. So the question of the hour is, do we have 41 votes?
Anything else we’re missing that we should be covering? Leave a comment or send us an e-mail. In the meantime, episode five…
Update: To clarify, Cornyn’s amendment would have banned aliens who disobey deportation orders or engage in identity fraud. “Felons” doesn’t mean “violent felons.”

…sadly scary, but this is quite possibly the question of the century.

What’s most stunning about this–and sorry to digress from the real post subject–is that what the hell is the background check for if not for the things Cornyn proposed in this amendment??? I mean, if they weren’t already going to (at least ostensibly, on paper) deny people the Z visa for crime, what the hell is the background check even ostensibly for??

That’s it! I thought the episode would be longer?

Here’s the rollcall on the Cornyn amendment.
I fully expect this vote to come back to haunt those who voted in the ‘nay’ column. Voting ‘yay’ on the alternative Kennedy amendment is no defense.
Of course, McVain voted against the Cornyn amendment, and generally speaking, we have yet another indication that there are no serious plans for enforcing the law, as ID theft and violation of deportation orders are now forgiven.
As far as the 41 votes goes, I wish. If we could get the 9 dems that were part of the 46 ‘yay’ votes on the Cornyn amendment to join the reps, I’d say yes, but in all likelihood that’s wishful thinking on my part.

they are getting shorter and shorter; and the 2 story lines are wearing thin too.

Ok then, I predict that the surgeon will develop a love interest with the visiting female doctor, cause now she’s wearing a surgical mask.
And you know what that means, covered meat
Kini on June 6, 2007 at 3:21 PM

A somewhat disappointing episode.

I’ve been enjoying these, although this one slowed it down a bit. I’ll sill look forward to the next one.

The kidney was converted to shiite Muslim and the recipient is sunni Muslim. I guess the guy will have to blow himself up.
