Video: Japan’s baby robot

posted at 2:17 pm on June 5, 2007 by Bryan

Remember that freaky, giant Japanese baby robot that I posted on last week? Drudge got around to posting on it today, and provided a link to YouTube video in this story about it. So if you missed it or clicked on the post after Yahoo had moved the link for the second or third time, here it is. Prepare to be amazed and yet disturbed.

Creepy

ballz2wallz on June 5, 2007 at 2:22 PM

Guess what. It’s still creepy. It looks like an iRobot baby.

amerpundit on June 5, 2007 at 2:23 PM

Creepy is the only word to describe this….creepy, creepy, creepy. It gives me the heebie-jeebies

heatherrc77 on June 5, 2007 at 2:32 PM

iProgeny?

What’s the killer app on this thing? Will it play mp3 files? Roaming wifi? When Vista freezes up does it cry?

The Apologist on June 5, 2007 at 2:38 PM

You really should see someone about this robot fetish.

RedWinged Blackbird on June 5, 2007 at 2:49 PM

It is creepy.

It’s a real contrast when you think of how small babies and the young of animal species are endearingly appealing. Think of Knut, who we know will grow up to be more and more irascible.

We can try to reweave the Creator’s beautiful tapestry of life, but we end up with a travesty instead.

Sometimes a giant robotic baby is just a giant robotic baby.

Hmm. Roaming WiFi. That could be cool.

I thought when you said baby, that it would actually be the size of a baby… no one wants a giant baby robot…. why do they keep coming up with the most useless products in Japan? They watch too much Anime over there or what?

I think they just got tired of making everything smaller and cheaper. This is how they decided to splurge.

James on June 5, 2007 at 3:06 PM

Now can they just please get on to making the Inoue Waka model? Ogle it. errrr, google it.

heatherrc77 on June 5, 2007 at 3:19 PM

Another thought occurred to me…they had to make it that big to fit all the tentacles inside.

James on June 5, 2007 at 3:23 PM

Robot baby gives the impression of being boh mentally and physically disabled in comparison to the Japanese female androids. It only says ‘eh eh’, has malformed hands and seems oversized to be a baby.

I was hoping they would pull back the skin on its face to reveal the metal skeleton and red LED eyes.

If we start using them as workers, will liberals form a robot worker special interest group and demand that they get 2 weeks of sick leave a year?

Verbal Abuse,

If we start using them as workers, will liberals form a robot worker special interest group and demand that they get 2 weeks of sick leave a year?

Um, no..the liberals are looking for a new slave race, since human looking robots ( Androids ) aren’t really available yet they are settling for Mexicans/illegal immigrants. But you can bet that just as soon as the Androids are readily available and cheap the Mexicans/illegal immigrants will be demanding it.

Not to mention 2 weeks vacation, 401k’s and a limit on how many may enter the work force each year…..

doriangrey on June 5, 2007 at 4:25 PM

disturbing? creepy? Hardly, in fact it’s quite boring. I’ve seen 10 times more “creepy” and “disturbing” in some of the special effects in movies.

What an apt description! :-)

OH NOES!

Giant robotic Baby Rampage!!!!!!

…There Goes Tokyo.

-Wasteland Man.

That immediately brought to mind old Calvin & Hobbes cartoons in which Calvin is delightedly making little sandbox cities that are at the edge of imminent destruction.

Rights for robots? They have already started talking about it. But wondering about possible legal rights for robots isn’t newData would be pleased.
