I didn’t know the ZZ Top guitarist was Scottish!

I grew up in BC and I saw it every time my boyfriend took me to Squally “Inspiration” Point late at night.

Pu-leez. There are only two reasons for the “Nessie” and “Champ” and other such sightings.

1. Tourism $$$

2. For guys to take dates under the guise of catching a glimpse – like going to Inspiration Point to watch the “submarine races” on Happy Days.

Actually, I’m not sure how much “tourism” Champ brings us, considering Nessie is the one mentioned most often, while Champ is virtually ignored, despite having one undebunkable photo (while the famous Nessie one has been debunked).

Anyway, I’ve never met anyone who’s come here on vacation to see Champ, and that would be pretty stupid considering sightings are EXTREMELY rare, and most “sightings” are just inconclusive mystery wakes and currents anyway.

As for your number 2 explanation, that’s just silly.

For those interested, Nessie and the often ignored Champ are not the only ones… a whole bunch of lakes just north of here, in Canada, are said to have similar creatures, including Ogopogo.

The two clips they keep showing look different. One is that giant discoloration in the water, and the other, som thing creating a wake. I believe these are two different things, but who knows, maybe it’s just the way the video is edited for tv.

That said, the one with the little wake is very similar to what I just saw last week. Scared the crap out of me because I just bought a kayak and was testing it out up at my Grandfather’s house (he lives on Lake Champlain… pretty much anywhere worth going here is within 5-10 miles of the lake anyay). In the bay I was in, I didn’t see any other boats, as the “season” doesn’t really start until Memorial Day (this was the week before). The water was like glass that day, and all of a sudden I saw this little wake thing coming right at me. Out there, by myself, in 45 degree water, it freaked me out for a few seconds. It was way to small to be champ though. Probably an otter. But that little wake in this video looked just like it.

Anyway, did anyone see the video that a couple guys from the NY side sent in to ABC News last year? It’s really annoying because I can’t find that video anywhere anymore. They kept some stupid video, used in the same report, of “something” off in the distance, but it’s really not evidence of anything. The one that was really shocking was taken right over the edge of the boat, where it looked like a long neck and head move by just below the surface.
