Robot video blogging: Japanese build giant, freaky baby robot
posted at 11:56 am on June 1, 2007 by Bryan
I don’t want to step on Allah’s domain, but I got this scoop and I’m running with it.
Take a look at this thing.

It’s the size of a second-grader but it’s supposed to function like a 1 to 2 year old kid. It has three senses, vision, hearing and touch, and blinks like Nancy Pelosi. Its silicon skin is supposed to feel human, other than being all cold and plasticy. Compressed air drives the 56 internal motors that move the arms, legs, head and whatever else moves. Osaka University, where the CB2 robot was built, ought to be proud. The rest of us ought to be horrified.
Click on the image to see it…move. And coo like a baby. I’ll have nightmares about it tonight, I’m sure.
Update: Yahoo did something weird to the link. It was working before but it isn’t working now and linking directly to it yields an error message–in Japanese. I’ve fixed the link in the image now so that it goes to a different page. From there, click on the link next to the plastic robot baby’s head and you should be good to go.

How long before Democrats try to get it to rant about O’Reilly, or protest for them on the street?
amerpundit on June 1, 2007 at 12:01 PM
Awesome.
Allahpundit on June 1, 2007 at 12:01 PM
1-to-2 year old?
Is it potty-trained?
CyberCipher on June 1, 2007 at 12:02 PM
This post was for you, my friend.

Gah! What is it with the Japanese and making creepy vaguely human looking robots? Make them cool and retro looking, like the old wind up toys, or Gundams or something, or maybe a Star Wars looking thing, an HK47 lookalike would be awesome.
Bad Candy on June 1, 2007 at 12:04 PM
Bah! Call me back when its old enough to mow the lawn.
blogRot on June 1, 2007 at 12:09 PM
Bryan, I’ll have you to thank for my next few sleepless nights.
Egad, that thing is creepy.
Slublog on June 1, 2007 at 12:10 PM
Wow. Just wow.
That happens right before it’s vote is automatically counted as a democratic vote.
Canadian Infidel on June 1, 2007 at 12:11 PM
Yeah. Pretty awesome.
The Monster on June 1, 2007 at 12:17 PM
Congrats, Japan…you just invented the retard.
James on June 1, 2007 at 12:21 PM
Are you sure it’s not a robotic Mickey Rooney?

BWAHAHAHAHA!

My God! Is that how Rosie came to be?
BacaDog on June 1, 2007 at 12:32 PM
So now we know what the crash test dummies do in the back seat.
profitsbeard on June 1, 2007 at 12:36 PM
Just like one of my nieces! I often wonder if people who don’t know her might think she’s a little slow, when in fact she’s just a gigantic 2 year old.
RightWinged on June 1, 2007 at 12:39 PM
Get two and you can make ‘em…er, nevermind. BRRRR!
robblefarian on June 1, 2007 at 12:47 PM
Um…is this still working for folks? I get nothing but a Japanese-encoded page and no video in either FF or IE. ?
pjaromin on June 1, 2007 at 12:49 PM
Waaaaah! The video won’t play for me! And I can’t read Japanese, so I don’t know what to click.
I wanna be creeped out and get nightmares, too! Not fair.

I prefer the hot cyber chick robot you posted a while back to the dumpy kid robot.
Alden Pyle on June 1, 2007 at 1:01 PM
Fixed. Try it now, with the instructions in the update.
Bryan on June 1, 2007 at 1:09 PM
Bryan, I think you just found the perfect replacement for Rosie on “The View” — temper-tantrums and all. Now if you can just teach it to spew hatred and trutherisms, you’re THERE.
CyberCipher on June 1, 2007 at 1:15 PM
That’s just creepy and neat, all rolled into one.
Krydor on June 1, 2007 at 1:18 PM
ummm…why do they keep slapping its thigh?
and if they were going for so much tactical realism in the skin, why on earth did they have to make it the color of a corpse?
TexasDan on June 1, 2007 at 1:40 PM
It’s eyes are following me….

Because it didn’t put the lotion on its skin?
James on June 1, 2007 at 2:17 PM
Thanks for the fixed link, Bryan! Now I, too, can sleep poorly tonight as thoughts of giant corpse-baby robots and the fantasies of the pedophiles who love them dance through my head.
aero on June 1, 2007 at 2:19 PM
It placed the lotion in the basket…..Precious!
heatherrc77 on June 1, 2007 at 5:21 PM
I know the full moon was two days ago but… Now I know that the aliens found at Roswell NM were really robots and we are just now learning how to make them, next we get the cool space ships

I’m okay with this little guy as long as he doesn’t go “humping robot” on us.

Not ‘xactly Disney’s Abe Lincoln…
