I didn’t turn my back on him… I showed him much more loyalty than he has shown to us. He pandered to the religious right to get elected (something I didn’t like) then basically did what he wanted to after he was. Screw him, I only supported him because the alternative (Gore or Kerry) was much worse. That is the bad part of choosing between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich. Even when you win… you kinda don’t. On the bright side: at least we got some decent supreme court justices out of it and a wakeup call for the conservatives (and I hope the republican party) in this country.

Predictable response, virtually everyone here disagrees with you so we all must be the trolls. Yep that’s logic for you. You pick a fight with everyone and everyone else is the troll. How could this logic ever have escaped us?

70% of the entire country democrat republican and independent disagrees with the Presidents immigration policy and you call for us to blindly follow him. When we refuse you heap Ad Hominem after Ad Hominem and we are the trolls.

When confronted with logical rational reasons for disagreeing with the President’s immigration policy you resort to hysterical accusations and emotive logic fallacies, yet those presenting logical reasoned analysis of the shortcoming are labeled by you as trolls. Yep that is definitely some powerful logic you got going there.

I’m sure you mean well, but I’m not buying the rope-a-dope theory. Bush really wants this bill. The effect may end up being the same, but I just can’t see this being Bush’s intent all along.

Before this immigration issue it was pretty much a given that a democrat would be the next president of the United States and that the dems would pick up more seats in both the senate and the house, now it is no longer a given for either.
If and I stress very heavily IF this was GW’s strategy (the man did graduate from Yale and Harvard) it is a brilliant case of out outmaneuvering the Democrats.

I always look in that direction when Bush does something that looks really stupid. But I have not been able to bring myself to accepting that this is some strategy to get a republican the White House in 08. It is very important that we accomplish that JUST to get conservative justices nominated for the SCOTUS. If we lose the White House in 08, 1 possible 2 liberal justices will be added to the court keeping it a court that cannot move towards more traditional values.

I hope you’re right and this is just the last in a series of brilliant moves by “Rove, you magnificent bastard!”.

If we don’t get a bill or nothing is done by ‘08 and we lose the presidency AND Congress…what do you think you are left with.

Look Capt. Narcolepsy, if this bill is passed in something resembling its present form, it’s a virtual guarantee that we will lose the presidency and congress in ’08 …

It just so happens that the ‘storm’ unfolded in what I see as a positive outcome for 2008. Also, I disagree that 2008 was always a “given” to the lefties for the 2 branches. We’ll discuss this often ahead of 2008′s elections.

Also, I agree that he is not dumb. He’s dumb like a fox and the lefties have never grasped this. However, on the immigration item it’s strictly personal with him.

In 2000 Gore had the popular vote and lost. I don’t recall Kerry having won the popular in 2004.

I think you are stabbing yourselves in the back. I think we have to get something before he is gone. That is my opinion. If you think he is a leftist…don’t push farther.
I’m being practical. There is a time to play hardball, but in politics you can’t shut the door. And don’t say the president shut the door because that can’t happen in politics.

I have come to the conclusion that tomas is a troll. He can’t make a clear rational logical argument and when confronted with one he claims that it is irrational and illogical then resorts to Ad Hominem attacks. All of his ranting and raving is based upon emotive presupposed conclusions engaging in dialog with him is like beating your head against a wall, all it is going to do is make your head hurt and draw blood.

HOWEVER…

He has proven to be the complete inverse of the previous president (who shall go unnamed) with a dynamite foreign policy and a piss poor domestic policy. He hasn’t met a spending program he doesn’t like and the amnesty issue is an out and out betrayal of his oath of office and duties under the constitution. I’m not throwing the man under the bus, but I think most of the commenters here feel the same way I do in that he has betrayed and kicked his base even after six years of support, despite his propensity to cozy up to the opposition and spend money like it’s going out of style. So, if anything, we are simply calling a spade a spade at this point: unless he shapes up double time quick, he WILL go down as a thoroughly mediocre (if not downright BAD) president who was not only hounded by his opponents, but who turned his back on his friends in an attempt at a legacy.
