Security Council Creates Hariri Assassination Tribunal...

Why do we bother? We know Putin had Litvenenko killed and we know the drooling imbeclie Bashar Assad had Hariri killed. Well, we don't know that. He's such a buffoon his supposed-inferiors probably gave the order themselves, as they do......

liquidflorian,

As good as this is, I mean come on….. it’s the UN we’re talking about.

Your statement has a great deal of truth in it. However this is no longer the UN under the corrupt communist Secretary General Coffee Kan Anon, if Ban Ki Moon is anything like the Korean’s I went to college with in the 80”s there are going to be some very major changes at the UN. All of the Korean grad students I worked with were extremely honest insanely hard working and just plain wouldn’t put up with incompetence or dishonesty. Up until recently I was ready to give the UN the boot right out of America and withdraw America from the corrupt UN, now that Ban Ki is Secretary General am willing to wait and see what he does. The fact that he has pushed this through may indicate that he is a man of principals and integrity and will demand no less from those working in the UN.

It's going to get very dicey in Lebanon before that Tribunal even sits.

The attacks by Fatah al-Islam - that many Lebanese believe were instigated by Syria - are only the beginning. What will Hizbullah do? They're still sitting in front of the Grand Serail, and could storm the government building at a moments notice. I have no doubt that Nasrallah will call for another massive demonstration before too long. This could be used as a cover to take out Siniora and his ministers.

Then what? The UN would be stuck with a Tribunal that a new government in Lebanon doesn't want. One thing is certain. Assad is not finished. It appears more and more that his survival depends on the destruction of the Tribunal. Why is anybody's guess. But he's fighting tooth and nail to keep it from sitting.

This has been Assad’s greatest fear since Rafiq Hariri, the anti-Syrian former prime minister of Lebanon, was assassinated two years ago: all signs point to the Syrian government’s involvement and he knows it and soon the rest of the world will know it too.

I'm not as confident as you regarding the rest of the world soon knowing it too when the UN is involved. It's asking a lot to believe they will be fair and impartial. In fact, with the UN, it wouldn't surprise me if they reached the opposite conclusion, regarldess of how much evidnece proving Syria's involvement is uncovered.
