I heard it this morning. Brilliant even the second time around.

Tru2my2 on May 30, 2007 at 11:01 PM

Ya, supporting Bush has been like being Lindsay Lohan’s AA sponsor.

I wonder if he has the property in Mexico City picked out yet for his presidential library.

I can’t imagine him raising more dollars than pesos.

We should have been tipped off when he had to put a label (compassionate) in front of conservative. He was really saying F you to actual conservatives, I guess. Oh well, the first 4 years were OK, but the second 4…. yikes!

reaganaut on May 30, 2007 at 11:03 PM

I feel what she’s saying, because this issue scares me too. I bust out a rant if someone wants to call me racist because of my views on this one too, so I’m there with her on that accord.

I just think Bush really believes he’s doing good by doing what he feels is “helping” these illegals. I can understand that desire to help when you’ve got the power to do it. Most of these people are poor families just looking to get by, just working hard. I get that. I just dont think he’s getting the other side of it. There’s laws for a reason, you cant just not enforce them. You cant help everyone.

Well, I can’t lie and say I would of voted for Kerry. But dash it all, I’m getting sick of getting kicked in the teeth by this president.

True. Too true. He’s become an embarrassment.

Ali-Bubba on May 30, 2007 at 11:43 PM

So do I doriangrey! Well, there’d be some fallout, but..

Laura says so clearly what many of us (at least me) feel. This is ridiculous! We didn’t elect a huggy kissy feely liberal to hold the hands of criminals and make them comfortable, did we? Well, I mean, not on purpose. Bush has become nothing more than a Harry Reid or John McCain.

It’s not only sad. I’m embarrassed to have supported him for so long. He’s catching up with Carter as the worst prez ever. The only thing left for him to do is to declare the USA an open country, like France did with Paris in 1940.

LAME.

WisCon on May 30, 2007 at 11:54 PM

I’ve been an strong supporter of Bush over the years, but this crap from him lately concerning immigration has got to stop. Kudos to Laura for laying it all out as it should be.

MadMonk on May 30, 2007 at 11:55 PM

This guy is bought and paid for. The immigration package is going to end the United States as we knew it. The mexicans are colonizing this country and will not assimilate. The so called sanctuary cities will become breeding grounds for all the communist ideology of south america. George W. Bush has to know this. This government can’t control the underground drug trafficers in this country let alone a renegade population of illegal aliens. Screw you and your insults George W. Bush! Your not a lame duck your just lame.

sonnyspats1 on May 30, 2007 at 11:57 PM

I’m with CCRWM if it’s Thompson/Duncan! To be fair, I’m with you if it’s Thompson/Huckabee too. Or Duncan/Thompson. Or Thompson/Gingrich (but that one would lose).

This accidental supporting of liberals has got to stop! I bet most people supported Bush Sr. because they thought he would be like Reagan. After all, he was his VP. That was clearly a mistake, but we thought at least his kid would have learned the error of his dad’s ways. We were wrong again.

This is why we can’t support someone like Guliani, who is CLEARLY in that mold. Or McCain, since he’s even MORE liberal. Romney may be ok, but let’s not risk it. Actor who’s conservative, inexpericenced, and strikingly honest? We’ve only had one of those as president. Reagan. That went so well, let’s go for two.

Fred!

Kevin M on May 31, 2007 at 12:09 AM

Outstanding. Couldn’t agree with her more.

katieanne on May 31, 2007 at 12:16 AM

Grand. Freakin. Slam.

Right off the bat, I love how she points out that finally, now that Bush takes off the gloves it’s to attack his own base, i.e. the people who put him in office in the first place.

Couldn’t go after the left or the dems like this, oh no. He saves it for those of us who supported him.

Thanks for nothing, W.

On the bright side, at least he’s screwing things up for his family name that no other Bush will ever stand a chance of getting elected again. Jeb thanks you also, W.

BacaDog on May 30, 2007 at 11:12 PM

Where do we go? We go where I’ve been posting for 6 months. We go AWAY from Dub Yuh. The only way the GOP can retain the White House and win back Congress is to convince the voters that whoever the GOP nominee is, he will not repeat the policies of Dub Yuh.

Traditional conservative ideas are still attractive enough to win national elections. All the GOP has to do is make it clear that Dub Yuh did not espouse those ideas, and the GOP post Dub Yuh is ready to get back to the basics.

Liberty or Death on May 31, 2007 at 1:08 AM

He didn’t get Bin Laden.

He didn’t read the Koran.

He didn’t send enough troops with the right rules of engagement (Mitchum’s Rules) to Afghanistan or Iraq.

He didn’t demand secular Constitutions for both conquered lands.

He didn’t secure the borders after 9/11.

(Need to change that “dubya” to “didn’t“.)

But, now, all of the sudden, he can strike at his own people. Who supported him through all of these failures. Hoping that he would at least defend the homeland.

Learns nothing but how to alienate everybody.

Strange mind…

We need a HotAir party

gmoonster on May 31, 2007 at 1:50 AM

Yep, she articulates well how I have been feeling. What bugs me the most, is I can’t understand the motive for Bush’s position on the borders. It doesn’t make sense.

Most people I disagree with, I can still understand the logic of how they got to their position. The democrats want illegals in for the votes (short term benefit to them even though long term drawback for the country). I don’t think letting the illegals in with amnesty is going to make them vote republican. So with Bush’s position we get long term detriment to the country and still have a short term detriment to the republican party.

CountryDoc on May 31, 2007 at 3:54 AM

Laura, My Hero!

I think Laura missed the point on Bush however. Bush is advocting betrayal of the United States and it’s citizens for the benefit of wealthy and corporate interests. Lower costs, at the expense of jobs at a livable wage for Americans, improves profit margins. The Democrats have basically the same objective in mind, admitting massive illegal alien populations into the Untied States, with the expectation that they will gain political power. Both are quite willing, eager, to sacrifice the intersts of the United States and citizens for the benefit of the wealthy and the pursuit of power.

The big issue that the Republican party needs to address, but won’t, is favor to wealthy and corporate intersts at the expense of the nation. Thank God Bush did not get his greedy hands on Social Security.

Without major reform with regard to favoritism to the wealthy and corporate interests we will surely have a Democrat majority in both houses and a huge disaster in the White House. So much damage to our country because the Ferengi insist on their short term gains at the expense of American citizens.

Michelle and Laura are too smart to be President. They can do more good where they are.

E L Frederick (Sniper One) on May 31, 2007 at 8:10 AM

I didn’t think I’d get to this point, but what if Bush was impeached, and Cheney took over? What’s his position on the amnesty bill? If it happened, would the #3 take over as VP. That would mean Vice President Pelosi. If that’s the case, talk about being between a big rock and a bigger rock.

P. James Moriarty on May 31, 2007 at 8:12 AM

I could be wrong, I often am, but I cannot think of another President in my lifetime that insulted his own party followers to this degree. I cannot remember any president in my lifetime where his own party, his own people , have turned from him like this. What is he thinking? What is his advisors telling him? He owes many of us a huge apology. I know what Laura speaks of. I have argued face to face with liberals, supporting this man for all these years , and now…no more. He has left me completely. He has never been a conservative. We knew it deep down inside and never admitted it.
Please, someone must save this once proud, great nation. The next presidency must save this country. We have to work even harder now.

hoosierken on May 31, 2007 at 8:13 AM

Like many, I defended and supported Bush through thick and thin. He wouldn’t stand up for himself so we had to do it for him. He repaid that effort and loyalty by spitting in my face. There is nothing I despise more than ingratitude. I am finished with him. I won’t lift a finger to help him unless it directly affects the war and the troops.

TheBigOldDog on May 31, 2007 at 8:14 AM

I am finished with him. I won’t lift a finger to help him unless it directly affects the war and the troops.

TheBigOldDog on May 31, 2007 at 8:14 AM

I hear that! With his credibility gone I begin to wonder if he is wrong in Iraq also and has been for some time.

Wade on May 31, 2007 at 8:32 AM

In as much as I am in disagreement with the direction the White House and Congress seem bound and determined to herd this country to, why is ALL the wrath directed at the Republicans? Why when the Democrats and the hard Left alliances are the ones who midwifed this in the first place and created the conditions for the problems: can we name Senator Kennedy of Massachusetts for altering the immigration criteria years ago and all the Democrats who do not enforce laws? Why is President Bush and the Republicans taking more punishment than Senator Kennedy and his cohorts? Kennedy will chug along secure in his elected position, no matter what he does, but Republicans will be voted out of their offices. Massachusetts prefers the Third World One Party system and maintains senators-for-life? Rather like West Virginia?
How come the Democrats never pay for their machinations? Is it because no one thinks they can be dumped, so all the dumping goes on the Republican side? Is the Democrat Party machine soo invincible that they can keep a former Klu Klux Klan card-carrying member through decades of social change in this country and never have to worry about being held responsible for such hypocrisy?
Or is the information we read and watch being manipulated to make it seem as if Dems are not being held responsible?
I don’t mind holding Republicans feet to the flame when they deserve it, but it always seems as if the end result is an increase in the Left’s control.

naliaka on May 31, 2007 at 8:39 AM

I too feel completely betrayed by this president as I supported him over the years. He lied to his conservative base….period. At least with a liberal I know where they stand and where they’re coming from up front. Bush just looked us all in the eye and lied. Don’t you just love how he gave up on Social Security Reform (which would have benefited EVERY American) but he’s bound and determined to dumb down this nation with the lowest of the low in immigration. This fool has succeeded in dividing the Republican Party. And don’t be fooled again….he has a back-door deal with the Democrats. When was the last time you heard anything from Conyers about impeaching the president?

lynnv on May 31, 2007 at 8:43 AM

Laura gets it exactly right.

So does Ann:

Americans — at least really stupid Americans like George Bush — believe the natural state of the world is to have individual self-determination, human rights, the rule of law and a robust democratic economy. On this view, most of the existing world and almost all of world history is a freakish aberration.

Not sure what is worse:

A united republican party under Kerry or a divided republican party under Bush.

I guess I would choose option 2 because at least we got the judicial nominees. Still not much of a choice, though.

Only if you actually did something with her… I’m not married I believe she is, so while I would love the attention, that’s as far as it would go…

Laura says so clearly what many of us (at least me) feel.

Yea, A lot of what she say’s might as well be coming out of my mouth because it is what I am thinking.

I’m embarrassed to have supported him for so long.

I havent reached that point yet, but believe me I am really pissed off about some of the cr@p that has come out of his mouth recently.

He’s catching up with Carter as the worst prez ever.

As angry as I am over his recent immigration stance and the things he has said while trying to bully people into supporting it I also honestly believe that the war on terror is sooo important that his actions in it mean that he is going to go down in history as one of America’s most important presidents ever.

How would John F. Kennedy have been viewed in 1963 if the majority of America had known just how close he had brought the entire world to total annihilation by attempting to invade Cuba in 1961???

No history is not going to look at Bush the same as we do today, or even the way we look at Carter today, it’s not even going to look at Carter the way we look at Carter today.

The only thing left for him to do is to declare the USA an open country, like France did with Paris in 1940.

P. James Moriarty on May 31, 2007 at 8:12 AM

One thing at a time. Those who wish to impeach the President wouldn’t do it over the Amnesty. The issue they’d like to base an impeachment upon they cannot, as they voted him the authority to carry out the military operations as he saw fit. While we despise the Amnesty, his otherwise political opponents do not. So no chance he’d be impeached, for better or worse.

No, the succession protocol doesn’t put the Speaker into the VP chair. When Agnew resigned in 1973, Nixon appointed Ford to VP in accordance with the 25th Amendment. When Nixon resigned, Ford became President, and appointed Nelson Rockefeller. By the way, the only time in our nation’s history when neither the President nor Vice President was elected to the office.

The Speaker of the House was long-time Congressman Carl Albert. Prior to Ford’s appointment to Vice President, there was a period of time where Albert was next in succession. He could have bullrushed an impeachment proceeding that would have landed him in the Oval Office, but refused, in spite of numerous colleagues’ encouragement to do so.

Laura is as right as she can be on this one. The President has worn out the support of those who fought twice for his election. Many have run from the party ::hand raised::, many more refuse to continue donating to the party. The fault isn’t with the Oval Office alone, but that’s where the buck stops.

McCain/Feingold, Education, Medicare, government expansion, insane deficit spending, Dubai Ports, and open borders/amnesty. These things and more like them have shown us that “compassionate conservatism” is really “social*sm lite”.

The national party either recognizes the need to return to the values that brought it to greatness, or it will turn to dust.

Freelancer on May 31, 2007 at 5:16 PM

I’m ambivalent about Laura’s attitude towards Bush especially since the slowed audio making him sound dumber than the average drunk Texan.

I’m pissed about the “immigration reform” for sure, but caving in to moonbat rhetoric (the Prez iz STOOPID) is crap.

Not believing in something as strongly as those who support you does NOT constitute stupidity.

For the record, I’m out of my mind with anger at the proposed legislation that amounts to amnesty. I’m equally pissed that Bush (the Prez I’ve defended) supports it.

I once admired the man for “knowing” what America had to do. I no longer admire him as such, but calling him stupid directly or indirectly is just plain incorrect. It’s a moonbat habit and one nobody on the right should be picking up lest they ally themselves with those they despise.
