Shocka: Shrum says Kerry voted for war to improve election chances

posted at 11:06 am on May 28, 2007 by Allahpundit

Not the first time we’ve heard this from Shrum about a prominent Democrat. For all the whining they do now about predictions that Iraq would be a “cakewalk,” most of them were sufficiently worried it was true that they feared voting the wrong way.

Just file it away for the next time the left starts screeching about “playing politics with war”:

He writes that Kerry telephoned him on the eve of the Oct. 11, 2002, vote. Shrum said Kerry was skeptical of Bush’s claim that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that he “didn’t trust Bush to give the diplomatic route a real chance.” Nonetheless, Kerry asked Shrum whether he would “be a viable general election candidate if he was in the small minority of senators who voted no.”

Shrum wrote that he told Kerry it was “impossible to predict the political fallout if we went to war.” But he wrote that Jim Jordan, Kerry’s former Senate press secretary and future campaign manager, “was insisting that he had to vote with Bush.”

Shrum wrote that Jordan had “hammered” Kerry with a warning: “Go ahead and vote against it if you want, but you’ll never be president of the United States.” Kerry voted for the war resolution and Jordan became Kerry’s campaign manager three months later.

Good to know their priorities are straight.

Hmmm….

“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”
Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002.

Shrum eviscerated Edwards in his book.

If he wasn’t forced to reverse course in the middle of the primaries, he would have been just fine in the general election. It’s a good strategic gambit, except when your base is completely insane.

Thank God he wasn’t President before he didn’t become President.

On this day, being Memorial Day, my anger for the ignorant left and even more for the so called informed is at a much hotter burn in my stomach. One of the last pictures I want to see is one of this piece of sh!t!

Just like al-Gore and Desert Storm.

Last week Hillary waited until Barack voted, then she voted as he did. Convictions all right…and no politics, none whatever…What the heck do newyorkers see in her?

What amazes me is that any politician would give any care to the political fallout if a descision is made to go to war or not. These are perilous times indeed when those who are sworn to protect us care more about their narcissistic hunger for power than they care for their country or our military personnel. If you go to war you’re “all in.” Or else, don’t go to war.

“Go ahead and vote against it if you want. You’ll never be president of the United States, anyway.”

Fixed.
