Dems making a point of referring to Bobby Jindal as “Piyush”

“Piyush” being his given name but not the name he goes by. Quote:
For months last year, after it was clear Jindal was running, the Louisiana Democratic Party issued news releases referring to him as Piyush “Bobby” Jindal. The party stopped in January. A spokeswoman said the practice was ended not because it was offensive, but because it detracted from the substance of their statements…
“That’s his real name. It is not race-baiting,” [Julie Vezinot] said. “I see Bobby Jindal as presenting a facade. I think it is important to let people know who he is . . . to say this is what he actually is rather than the image he presents to the public.”
What could that possibly mean in the context of his name? Unless … they’re insinuating that he’s trying to “pass” for white, much like some of the more bottom-feeding members of the nutroots do when they pointedly refer to Michelle by her maiden name. The insult may be aimed at Jindal but it actually lands squarely in the lap of Louisiana voters, based as it is on the assumption that they’ll be less likely to vote for an “exotic,” non-white candidate. But his district already sent him to Congress and he’s ahead in the race for governor as we speak. Better try harder, boys.
And with that I must conclude the post and relinquish the high ground, thanks to the idiots on our side who pull this very same dirty trick with “Barack Hussein Obama.” Good work, guys!

If people want to stick Obama with a label, how about starting with “Marxist” since that is what his degree from Columbia U.’s polisci department technically qualifies him as.

So…the democrat party is again showing how dumb and racists their voters are? If I were a democrat, I’d be insulted!

hard to get on the right for using Obama’s middle name, I mean its the same as Saddam’s last name, I would prefer “Empty Suit” instead though for his name

Correct, AP.
The difference–among many–between Michelle M. Malkin and Hillary R. Clinton is this: Malkin has used her married name since her marriage. The senator began to go by her married name during her husband’s first presidential campaign–i.e.when it became politically convenient. (See a similar phenomenon wrt Teresa

If guys from India* are any bit as good at politics as they are at software, the dems don’t have a chance.
*Check out the biography of the guy who founded Netscape and Silicon Graphics. His assertions on Indians as engineers appear to be spot on. The majority of Indians in the software industry can code circles around the rest of us.

It is kind of stupid, though if I recall, indications were that all the “Islamic school” stuff came out of the (covert) Hillary camp.
And at least that was playing on fears of Islam, as we’re in a battle with “radical” (read: all) Islam. Jindal is Indian!!!
RightWinged on May 28, 2007 at 8:55 PM
I had a client of mine recently float the most bizarre conspiracy theory I ever heard re: Jindal – and this is a wealthy guy, owner of several large companies and smart enough to turn millions in profit. He said that Sanjaya (sp?) winning week after week in Idol was a “dry run” for vote fixing to get Jindal in the governors’ seat. “Those Indians” can work together and coordinate… that’s what “they” are good at… I’m not sure how the whole plot was going to work; just that the guy was a complete fruitcake. I mean, if he wants info on how to fix the vote, he’s got Mary “Bring Out Your Dead” Landrieu, queen of the Cajun Kennedys right at hand.
Lesson: never underestimate the stupidity of some Louisiana voters.

I can’t ever look at his name without reading it as “Bareback Osama.”
Lehosh on May 28, 2007 at 9:01 PM
I don’t understand. What is “Piyush”? Is it some kind of ethnic/racial slur? Context please.
aengus on May 28, 2007 at 9:06 PM
It’s his first name. “Bobby” is a nickname.
Allahpundit on May 28, 2007 at 9:07 PM
Here from the grand embarrassment of Louisiana, I completely agree with that statement. Votes are bought, rules are broke, and racial tensions here still flourish.
The only reason he lost last time was due to the color of his skin.
I know Bobby, he is a business man with a good heart. He would be the flu shot that this state needs. But we keep on voting in the same career politicians, even though we have a term limit law….they just jump from senate to house or vice versa. Until we truly clean house, our state being at the bottom of every list.
But if you want to have a good time, cher, come on down! It’s a wonderful place to live. Wildlife enthusiasts are welcome! ( the only good things here)
But it doesn’t surprise me what the dems are doing. Thats the way they roll.
lsutiger on May 28, 2007 at 9:16 PM
Yeah, the voters in Louisiana are likely to elect anyone; they put the “noggin” back in and I’m sure they would put that idiot Blanco back in if she ran. They will proably vote for Barac Hussien Obama also. Yeah the folks in Louisiana really need our attention and our help. I’m seriously thinking of sending them a whole lot of money to help them out. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

The book I was referring to goes into quite a lot of detail about why Indian engineers and doctors are stereotypically better than those from a different ethnicity. It has zero to do with the fact that they are Indian, per se. It has more to do with the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and how young men were/are recruited for said institute.
From a young age, all villages subject their kids to aptitude tests. Based on the outcome of the tests, the best and brightest from each village are sent to the IIT. Upon graduation, they are sent to America to continue their academics and begin a career. Many would stay in America, sending money back, while others would return to India and apply all the new skills and experience attained in the states to new ventures in the mother land. The idea was to use America to bring India out of the third world and into the “super powers” club. It’s working. Had I not read this in a book written by a billionaire venture-capitalist, I would have scoffed.
To put it into ultra-simple terms: Indians appear to me to be the Vulcans of our planet. If you want to group them all into one stereotype, fine, provided you remember that they are typically quite respectful, proper, precise, and patient. I would be interested to see what kinds of anthropological history exists that would explain these almost across-the-board traits shown by people native to India.
Let’s also remember that the Indian Railroad was at one time the largest and most successful business ever. I have deep respect and admiration for India and it’s people and have an almost naive blind trust for Indians in my industry.

I wouldn’t say Barrack Hussein Obama if I were trying to be sleazy. How ’bout B. Hussein Obama?
Kevin M on May 28, 2007 at 10:30 PM
And another thing… being who his opponent is, we would vote for him down here even if he had extra arms, legs, and heads. Who cares what his race is?
Kevin M on May 28, 2007 at 10:34 PM
I’m already here, baby! Currently living under the incoherent and inefficient rule of Aaron Broussard of Meet The Press Oscar moment fame. I was actually one of the people who tried to get him recalled, and I’m working my keister off trying to get anybody worthwhile to run against him. The one guy who is running hasn’t got a chance, mores the pity.

Ever since I heard Shanklin’s parody song about Ted Kennedy screwing up Obama’s name (Osama), I’ve referred to ‘Barry O’ as Candelabra Obama. Either that or Borat Obama. He’s a joke candidate so he gets a joke name. The ‘Hussein Obama’ thing is kind of lame; like calling Bill Clinton ‘BJ’ Clinton. You’re supposed to laugh dutifully even though it’s not really funny.

Thank you for sharing the insight from that book-one of the sharpest “Indians” I know of who embodies ‘quite respectful, proper, precise, and patient’ is Ravi Zacharias. A brilliant mind, and a great person.

I bet these morons were thinking:
“If we make those right wing fascist bushies realize the “Bobby” they’re supporting is really a brown person they’ll be against voting for him and we can show once again what a bunch of nazis they are!”
Defector01 on May 28, 2007 at 11:39 PM
What’s wrong with saying “Barak Hussein O’Bomber?” Or, when the silver toungued nitwit says 10,000 people died in a tornado. Can’t you just see him as Pres. “What, there were showers in Indianapolis?! Clouds over Hobken?! CAll the National Guard, Send in FEMA!” (Maby I should be calling him “Barak Hussein O’Barny Fife?” And then in about the same week when he comes out with this gem, I just can’t help but refer to him as “. . . O’ClusterBomber,” referring to his gaffes. The Jihadi associations are just an added bonus.
Anyway, if those are examples of what people refer to when they say “he speak good,” I don’t know why they have a problem with Bush.
I may be a “dirty trickster” “nutroot,” but I’ll bet I have more fun than you.
yonaton on May 28, 2007 at 11:52 PM
As to Piyush (Bobby) Jindal, some of my best friends have been Indians. I like them. What he’s doing in the Democrat party I don’t know. THAT’s the only thing that could prejiudice me against him.
Of course, he could be one of the few good ones left. From what I’ve read so far about him I am cautiously optimistic. Still, giving the nutroots at the top of DNC any more power seems like a huge mistake. He would have to be one heck of a good conservative Dem for that to be appealing.
But, if the governership of Louisiana has been and would continue to be going to a Dem anyway, it might as well go to a decent one. (Hmmm, maybe the DNC DOES want to sabotage him after all.)

Jindal is a Republican.

Not only is Jindal a Republican, he’s got an excellent immigration scorecard and has been a fairly conservative Congressman. I’m going to miss him in the House, but it’ll be good to have him in Baton Rouge.
Laura on May 29, 2007 at 12:36 AM
Pffft. Some of them can, but the majority can’t. Where I work we’ve had to re-code most of the work we outsourced there. We had it re-done by Ukes.
They’re like anybody else; some of them are brilliant and work hard, and some of them ain’t and don’t.
Bad Penny on May 29, 2007 at 12:37 AM
It’s good to see I have some fellow coonasses who are part of the Hot Air family. Bobby Jindal could be named Osama Bin Laden and the only problem He would have is making groceries and getting home in time for the Saints game. He is the best politician to grace Louisiana since, …well ever. For the life of me, I still can’t understand how Kathleen “Edith Bunker” Blanco got herself elected.
Race does play a big card down here.
but, it is my belief that most people just prove themselves to be a liar as well, when posed the question of ” Are you a bigot?” I think everyone has a bigot down inside them somewhere.
I am a bigot, but it is not something I am proud of.
So let me apologies to anyone and everyone whom I may have offended in other threads. From my heart!
abinitioadinfinitum on May 29, 2007 at 2:34 AM
Allah, you would actually have a point if you could tell us what nickname Mr. Obama prefers instead of Hussein.
Capitalist Infidel on May 29, 2007 at 9:18 AM
The difference being that Conservatives do not play identity politics, Democrats do. Can you blame them their constituents eat it up. Unfortunately it backfires on them but works great for us. That is why Obama’s blackness or lack thereof was ever an issue. So lets call evrry candidate by their legal name and see who comes out on top.
Theworldisnotenough on May 29, 2007 at 9:25 AM
unamused,
India is following the model laid out by Japan after WWII and I think we all know how well it worked for Japan. India has five times Japan’s population, hence five times the number of exceptionally bright candidates to work with. This makes their strategy a win win situation for both India and America. Plenty of highly intelligent Indians remain here contributing to America’s success while an even higher number return home constantly improving India’s position in the world. The best and the brightest from the entire world flock here and make amazing contributions before returning home or by choosing to remain here. This is a model for success that we should be encouraging the rest of the world to follow.

It wasn’t until i was deployed to Iraq that I learned of the term coonasses. Being a northerner, I initially thought it was a racial epithet, thankfully, I was set straight.

this is the circle of the corker ad “dog whistle” propaganda effort closing. call it “engeneered tu qoque”. they invent this massive outcry against subliminal racism which only they can percieve in a republican campaign, and this then frees them up morally to “fight fire with fire”.
or, fight imaginary fire with fire.
