Video: Fred! unloads on the amnesty bill

From a speech last night in Connecticut, which started cute. It’s standard stuff except for the part about America being “beset by suicidal maniacs.” Pathetically, Hotline took that to be some sort of oblique reference to Cho Seung-Hui and wondered pointedly whether Thompson believes all legal immigrants are ticking timebombs. Apparently Cho’s the only suicidal maniac that comes to mind for them when they think about border policy — although they did add, purely as an afterthought, “maybe Thompson’s referring to hidden terror cells in the US.” Pssst: he’s referring to terrorists outside the U.S. who want to come in. That’s been known to happen before, you know.
Meanwhile, a plurality of Americans say if they could invite only one Republican presidential candidate to a picnic, they’d invite … Rudy? Rudy’s the last guy I’d invite; not only does he seem like he’d be a pill in private but the Gipper thought he was “crazy” (albeit only for being a stickler about his prosecutorial duties). Mitt’s more genial, and besides, as the wealthiest of the big three, you could depend on him to bring some pretty sweet side dishes with him.
If you’re keeping score, Fred’s a slim five points behind Rudy in the newly super-significant state of Florida, while Silky Pony leads Hillary by two. Looks like it’ll be southerners versus New Yorkers, as I figured, although if Fred’s doing that well without even having announced, it shouldn’t be much of a race by the time January gets here.
Exit question: Giuliani/Thompson dream ticket? I hate to break Goldstein’s heart but Fred’s already ruled it out. And as a lifelong New Yorker I can guarantee you, an alpha male like Rudy’s not going to play second fiddle to anyone.

Hit the nail on the head…
Just because they say somthing… and even pass a bill to do it, does NOT mean they will do it…
Look at last years border fence…
Look at 600,000 illegals ordered out of the country that Homeland Securitys Jerkoff managed to “loose”…
Actions first….

He sure seems to have quite a few speaking engagements lately- I understand he has another on June 3rd. It’s almost as if he’s running for office or something…
In related news, Fred! is catching up to RINO Rudy in the latest Florida poll:
Republicans
Giuliani 27
Thompson 22
Romney 18
McCain 12
P.S. Go Fred!

Blackburn’s news is pretty significant, considering she was co-chair for Mitt.
I’m thinking it’s going to be Thompson/Romney for the GOP.

Dangit! I can’t watch any of these things at work… But I still ♥Fred! As for the picnic — Rudy? I’m with you AP. Anyone who gets slammed by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the ACLU all in the same day (for his “double Guantanamo” statement) has to be fun to hang out with.

Fred! as a Veep candidate?
Ha!
I don’t know why so many people seem to think that offering a Veep spot is in any way worth taking notice of. “Here, vote for OUR guy for President and, in return, we’ll let YOUR guy have the job of powerless understudy in an undisclosed location.”
Gee, thanks, but no thanks. I know it’s rude to turn down generosity as enormous as that, but I never said that I was polite.

Fred/Newt/Romney (in that order) is the only salvation for the Republicans. It is also the only chance that this country, as we have known it, to survive.

Agreed – actions speak louder than words. And the absolute failure to secure the border at any time between the previous amnesties and this proposal shows that they have no intent on doing so this time. It’s the height of gullibility to genuinely believe otherwise.
The irony of all of this is that if Bush had spent the last six years making a concerted effort to secure the border and had some results to show for it, this might not be such a hot button issue now. Instead, he’s done Mexico’s bidding, taking an amnesty first, enforcement later (wink, wink) approach and thereby undermined his chances of getting out of this situation with any real victory.
Either the bill is going to go down to defeat or, if it becomes law, he will most of what political support he has left. Either way, he loses now.
thirteen28 on May 25, 2007 at 2:30 PM
Thompson/Romney would be a good ticket. Newt has too much baggage and would bring Thompson down. Guilliani would never accept VP. Hunter, Trancredo, Huckabee? Maybe.

As much as it pains me to help CSDeven in his anti-Fred campaign I found an interesting site that talks about Fred’s votes while a senator. Goes to show why very few Senators get elected president – those pesky votes are on record for all time.

RUDY will take care of your borders.

About Reagan on Rudy — Rudy’s U.S. Attorney’s office used to leak to the press so bad they would give tutorials to the CIA. If memory serves, and it’s nearly 20 years ago, the morning Rudy’s gang went to Washington to discuss their proposed Marcos indictment, the story appeared in the NY Times.

The way I know an alpha male – it’s because of all the females who simply present. Pretty much à la U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn. And uh, what was the name of Fred’s ex girlfriend who just spoke up in favor of him?
Rudy an alhpa male? Maybe in New York fighting with women is considered alpha behavior. After all, rudeness does seem to count for a whole lot there. But didn’t Donna Hanover have Rudy all but crushed in their PR war pre-9/11? And didn’t she chase Rudy out of his own mansion into the apartment of a pair of decidedly non-alpha sortakinda males? That’s not alpha behavior. That’s losing. Or it might be power bottom behavior wrt the new apartment. Allegedly. If I understand the term correctly.

There are currently 37,038 Police in NYC (not including Suburbs and such)… and about 10,000 in the Border Patrol.
Dam… that is a ridiculous stat… they REALLY could have helped.

Here you go:

And before someone suggests that it was an existing policy, Rudy re-instated it and spoke in favor of it. In addition, he sued the federal government to keep it that way. As far as I can tell, Rudy’s position on immigration is nearly identical to McCain’s.
Fred’s record on immigration isn’t perfect, but as long as he maintains a “security first” policy, I can live with whatever kind of “guest worker” program comes after- and only after- the borders are secured.

Wow, the NumbersUSA stats are alarming (about Fred).
Everyone in politics are tainted; we need honest grassroots gentleman (and lady) politicians again.
If Fred has had a come to Jesus moment, great, as long as its honest. I’ve changed my mind on things as I’ve had more real world experience, so I can see that. Fred should have to explain it all, to our satisfation however, to ensure us of his bona fides.
It’s dangerous to put blind faith in someone and build them up… even if it is Fred!
linlithgow on May 25, 2007 at 3:21 PM
After this last year of ‘news and views’ I doubt that any Republican is going to play the three monkees no matter who runs.
Limerick on May 25, 2007 at 3:25 PM
All politicians have some political baggage in their past. Reagan signed legal abortion into law while governor of California, but he had a turnaround on the issue and was more than acceptable to conservatives by the time he ran for president.
Fred might have some explaining to do, but even his mixed record of the past regarding immigration (as shown on NumbersUSA anyway) is better than Rudy’s or McVain’s, and he’s singing the right tune now. McVain is clearly on the wrong side, and Rudy, at best, is equivocating on the issue.

Wrong! Politicians are just like football coaches. (”I have no intention of being the head football coach at Alabama,” said ‘Slick’ Nick Saben.) He may seriously not want to be VP, but when it comes down to the final stretch, many politicians like to “answer the call to service.” As far as Rudy being too insecure to have him as VP, you may have a point, but a Northeasterner like Rudy is gonna need a Southerner with some clout. Fred it tailor-made for that spot.

Fred! and Newt can both serve the party by not running also. Imagine all of the resources being tied up and expended by the Dems trying to arm themselves against the possiblity that they do run. There no doubt have been some sleepless nights over in Hillary land worrying about these two. I am sure Hillary would love to lock horns with Newt to try and avenge what he was able to do while her roommate was the head motel desk clerk at the WH. I wonder if there are any FBI files that have recently gone missing?

I listened to a Michael Medved review and he said that “Pirates III” is a dog. You’re going to waste 2 hours of your life. He gave it 1 and 1/2 stars.
To the topic at hand: I followed the link to the senate vote site. It’s a mixed bag for sure. The problem is that for senators there might be great things in a bill and a couple of crappy things. You vote for it ’cause it’s the best you’re gonna get. We have to look at the man here and not just a couple of cherry picked votes.
Phred has plenty of time and right now he’s getting MORE attention by not running. Timing people, timing.

2 hours and 45 minutes, actually.
I saw it last night and it was good for a summer blockbuster. Still not sure if I liked it or loved it though. Definitely didn’t LOVE!!! it.
Part of me was annoyed that the big bad guy pulling all the strings was the head of the “East India Company” (that info was available in Pirates II, so no one should worry that I’m spoiling the movie). I just hate it when liberal anti-business politics slop over into my mindless summer movies.
JadeNYU on May 25, 2007 at 7:00 PM
Speaking of Ron Paul, the geeks supporting him (you know, the ones who just figured out how to cheat an online poll and think they’re k00l and l33t) don’t know how much harm they are doing to their candidate with this foolishness.
Umm, I don’t want it thought that I’m calling all Ron Paul backers geeks. Just the ones who are gaming the polls. I understand the libertarian reasons for supporting him, even if I heartily disagree with some of them. It’s really too bad, because while he has put himself in the spotlight as a world-class crank, he’s right about a few things.
Freelancer on May 25, 2007 at 7:36 PM
Comparing the East India Trading Company to contemporary concepts of “big business” is specious at best. What they had was a true MONOPOLY, and were quite vicious about it. They were little better than pirates, themselves.
The movie isn’t a lib slap at Big Business, and if you saw politics in it, you’re spending WAY too much time absorbed in politics. If Medved said that…he is too. With respect to both of you.
Who else are PIRATES gonna have as an “enemy”, historically speaking?
I mean, it’s a stretch anyway to have pirates as protagonists…but it’s called “suspension of disbelief”.

I thought it was a great movie. Almost 3 hours of I don’t give a rats a$$ entertainment. And don’t forget to wait until the credits are done running.
Now, about freddie boy. Does he EVER say anthing original? As far as I am concerned, he’s a day late and a dollar short on this immigration bill.
And ¿freds? weaknesses are still looming out there ready to tear down all this supposed free publicity he’s getting. The higher he gets, the farther he can fall.
csdeven on May 25, 2007 at 11:49 PM
I agree Fred’s “da man,” but will Newt or Mitt bring in any independents or left-of-centers?
Connie on May 26, 2007 at 1:01 AM
Looking at the NumbersUSA stats and it’s certainly a mixed bag for Fred. Could well be something to do with the crap riders they attach to bills to ram bad law through or kill good law with poison pills though. That is a practice we should do away with in our Congress, every bill needs to stand on its own and include adequate funding for implementation. That would certainly do away with a lot of pork attached to good bills and keep things on the straight and narrow. To me, looking at candidates, it’s Fred, Mitt, Hunter, or Tancredo. Rudy is as open borders as Bush plus anti gun, and pro abortion. After all this how can anyone expect us to vote for someone who’s “Bush, only worse”. I’m thinking that it’s pretty much a lost cause anyway and that Bush’s legacy is to be the last Republican President.
Buzzy on May 26, 2007 at 1:07 AM
Sorry to burst your bubble (Well, I’m not really sorry), but freddie boy is not a candidate. He is a mouth. A talking head. A person who feels the need to fake out his supporters. For some reason he wont say that he will announce. I think it is because he is afraid to answer for his piss poor record.
csdeven on May 26, 2007 at 9:26 AM
I think that Fred! will have plenty of backers before the election and with either Newt or Mitt’s supporters coming on board he can very easily win against the witch or the muslim.
Of course I may be letting my hopes get in the way of reason!
