[...] Now that the Johnny-come-latelys have embraced an enforcement-first approach, will they look in the mirror and call themselves what they called us? You know: Bigots who need to shut up, xenophobes, loud folks who don’t understand reality, bloodthirsty rabble-rousers who want to execute illegal aliens, etc., etc., etc.? [...]

[...] A lot of the resistance to this bill actually goes back to 1986 (and subsequent limited amnesty bills) where enforcement promises were broken, current laws are essentially unenforced, the border fence which was cut in size and is progressing very slowly, and this bill continues to allow for sanctuary cities. After this, people tend not to be so open the the ‘trust me, we’ll do it this time’ line. [...]

FOLLOW THE LOGIC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If they can't deport 12 million , how about the Gajillions (that's a Brazilian Billion, so say I) of us who decide that paying taxes might be too onerous. I mean hey, if we all simply opt to pay our taxes quarterly, AND THEN DECIDE NOT TO WRITE THE CHECKS...HOW CAN THEY ROUND US ALL UP???

AND WE CAN DO IT UNDER THE LOOPHOLE THAT OUR GOVERNMENT IS NOT REPRESENTING OUR (CITIZEN) INTERESTS ANY LONGER>>>SO WE SIMPLY DON'T PAY...

TAX PROTEST KICKS OF IN 3....2....

Yeah right...

Good example but the magnitude of the problem is well beyond just two states, which drastically complicates the task of simply identifying who the illegal aliens are.

Chertoff needs a history lesson about deportation. We did it once and we can do it again.

In 1954 President Dwight D. Eisenhower directed the INS to deport Illegal Aliens mostly from Mexico. He appointed General Joseph Swing to the INS and Operation Wetback was born.

With only 1075 Border Patrol Agents from California and Arizona, the program was able to repatriate over 1.2 million Illegal Aliens back to Mexico in less than a year.

I get sick and tired of the people that keep repeating the mantra we cannot deport 12 million people. They are just plain wrong and it has been demonstrated that if you have the will there is a way.

... I grew up in a racially mixed neighborhood where ‘cutting down’ was considered good fun. I often shock other white people with my comfort talking with blacks about racial issues. My candor is usually appreciated but when its not I know the person I am speaking to is indoctrinated in the racial grievance mindset.

It was not only good fun, it was necessary for our survival.

I don’t know about you, but this black person became a Republican because of the principles, not the people. And if you were naive enough not to know that RAOs (or many other types of AOs) come in every persuasion imaginable, welcome to the adult world.

baldilocks on May 26, 2007 at 3:04 AM

That's great to hear baldilocks, but I didn't become a republican because of their "so called principles" (which they ironically refuse to follow not to my surprise--think pork).

I became one because of Bush. He actually seemed like the only candidate with two things that were lacking from either party:

- Courage
- Compassion

Courage because he is willing to make the unpopular decisions for the sake of the nation (aside from the immigration item) and compassion because he actually seems to care about people in other countries, instead of following the "am I my brother's keeper" garbage that keeps half of these dictators in power.

I've seen enough corruption on both sides of the aisle to make me loathe politics altogether. Both parties have "principles." The question is, do they really follow them?

Bill C on May 26, 2007 at 7:17 AM

Apology accepted. Thanks for coming back and commenting again. Sorry if I sound anal and hold up GOPers (that's what I call them) to a higher standard. It's just that I expect more from them...especially in dealing with terrorists from the Middle East. If it were not for Joe Lieberman, I think I would have written off the Dems completely.

If a some jerk making a racist comment is enough to get another person to abandon their political values…

I don’t know about you, but this black person became a Republican because of the principles, not the people. And if you were naive enough not to know that RAOs (or many other types of AOs) come in every persuasion imaginable, welcome to the adult world.

In my mind the priorities are as follow:

(1) Does the Republican party really care about the well being of the black members of our society regardless of what party they identify with? (When the black community believes this is the case you will see more willingness to consider switching parties.)
(2) Republican efforts to attract more black members have not been very successful. Isn't it time for a more thoughtful strategy? (When Republicans exercise some self control and discourage some of the petty whining such as ["Rap artists say the N word why can't we?" "Sharpton/Jackson are race baiters admit it" "Cosby had it right, why can't they listen?" "Democrats = traitor"]and replace it with "what can we do to help?" the right strategy may finally be realized.

It will also spur development of automated means of picking fruit and such… much as the cotton gin spelled the end of needing slave labor, we need to turn our intelligence onto the problem… not use it as an excuse to allow the breakdown of the rule of law.

If you really want to see the prices go down let's eliminate the farm subsidies while we are at it. That drives up the prices and pays farmers not to farm. But alas it is a political football and thus an eternal entitlement program..... welfare "a rose by any other name"

Only 25% of crops are picked by illegals. Prices will NOT go up much.

Beside... Corn based biodeisal will affect overall food prices MUCH more than kicking out the illegals, and that is being FUNDED by our government.

After reading what I just wrote I realized it sounds like, "I am sorry you are too stupid to get my joke." And that is not what I meant. I am sorry I tried to tell an inappropriate joke.

Anyway, Maxx, I am not a dKoser. In fact, I am looking forward to protesting their convention here in Chicago in August.

As I was typing the first sentence the scene from the Blues Brothers where the neo-Nazi was talking about the Jews using blacks as muscle popped into my head and through my fingers into the keyboard. Obviously, any attempted joke that needs this much explanation is not funny.

AP, thanks for not banning me. To anybody who took this the wrong way, you are right it, it isn't funny. In my defense, I grew up in a racially mixed neighborhood where 'cutting down' was considered good fun. I often shock other white people with my comfort talking with blacks about racial issues. My candor is usually appreciated but when its not I know the person I am speaking to is indoctrinated in the racial grievance mindset. Still, this is no excuse for a lame joke.

This jackass is spouting his crap all over the airwaves, and Gonzales is the one that Bush is throwing under the bus this time?! Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Gonzales, but the next time it comes time to do the human sacrifice thing, you would think it would be the most deserving individual that is chosen.

By the way, if anyone didn't notice, I'm still a little annoyed about what happened to Rumsfeld, he certainly didn't deserve it.

Last I recalled, the last time whites used “blacks as muscle” was during the slavery era.

If the republican party is going to be this bigoted towards my race, perhaps its high time I left the GOP and joined the Dems…at least there I wouldn’t have to worry about these types of conversations.
Racist anal orifices (RAOs) come in every party--and in every race and/or color. If one of such spouts feces and you leave the Republican Party because of that individual, what will you do when another RAO from the party you've joined begins to spout the same?

I don't know about you, but this black person became a Republican because of the principles, not the people. And if you were naive enough not to know that RAOs (or many other types of AOs) come in every persuasion imaginable, welcome to the adult world.

I could not believe it Hot Air attacking a Republican! OMG.

Than it became Ted Kennedy's bill? Ahhh yes bash a Dem. One problem is that it's intellectually dishonest.

Bush is ALL GUN HO for it. Bush, President Bush, George W. Bush, Republican is for this bill.

Michelle your sarcastic sneer voice is so annoying. You sound like a child. Don't do that. It lowers you.

I don't like the bill at all, but than you pull the RAPE OF CHILDREN card out.

The sad part is the illegal aliens, the "crime" they committed was aided and abetted. Its like bank robbers and the get-a-way driver. We where the get-a-way driver; we are just as complicit. This has been going on for over 30 years.

It is not fair to give them citizenship out right and its not fair to deport them tomorrow. It is a tough problem but we need to work with the existing laws and most important secure the boarder first.

It's simple 1, 2, 3.

-Border security (fence, security, manpower, detention, punishment**) No more catch and release. ** I am all for throwing multiple offending boarder crossing illegals in jail. They can be put to work on the border wall. That will stop coming. Funding of the approved 700-800 mile wall (not a 300 mile wall in the bill) would be a start.

- Enforce existing laws. Asking for citizenship is cool; ask and arrest.

- Go after anyone that hires illegal aliens from factories to individuals with Mexican nanny, jail and fines. Now today. I am sure with out jobs they will go home.

The illegal problem will fix itself, mostly. The 12 mil will be 6 mil and than we can talk about their citizenship. Also some are worried about their political power. Illegals that get "amnesty" give up voting rights. If they don't like it they can go home and try legal immigration.

New laws and bureaucracy is not needed (yet).

I know people say its harsh and families will be separated, but than why can't they move back to Mexico to stay together. I don't think an illegal woman should be able to cross the boarder and pop a baby out, which becomes a citizen of the USA automatically. That is a problem. The child in my opinion was never a US citizen.

We have to be prepared to pay more for landscaping, Blueberry's, fast food, hotels and motels. I'm fine with that. Right now this servant class is being subsidized by tax payers. The only winners are the businesses that get the cheap labor.

I love hard working illegal aliens from all over the world, but we need ones that are legal, educated and law abiding. I talk to immigrants from Africa and Asia and they all speak english or try at least. The Mexicans I talk to can't. They don't try, not all and they have been here for years.

NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS WILL BE SOLVED WITH ANY BILL, WE JUST NEED ENFORCING THE LAWS WE HAVE. However at some point we need immigration reform and some kind of "compromise", but after the 1, 2 and 3. It makes no sense to do the give aways with this bill. First law, order and punishment, than reconciliation and amnesty (for some that deserve it). Oh yea back taxes? A must. They are complaining about $5,000. The fact is it will cost over 2 trillion to do this bill. That is crazy for so called cheap labor.
