A lot of big wild pigs that are running around in the Southern states are direct descendants of the hogs that DeSoto had with him during his expedition. When his expedition got attacked by Choctaws in Mississippi, the pigs got away. This giant hog might be a descendant of one of those Spanish pigs.

That’s not the story. The story is that they claim an 11 year old kid fired a .50 caliber handgun 9 times. That would be quite impressive, all by itself.

Eight shots to kill this absolute frikin giant. I have seen a possum take that many (.22 long rifle as critter gun). I am impressed beyond measure. Glad I am teaching my grandkids lessons out by the compost pile.

I’m just tripping on the whole 50. My dad gave me my own 20 gauge on my 12th birthday, and my own 30-30 on my 13th. If he caught me with his old 45, he’d have taken it out of my hands and shot me with it, just to make the point :) I realize this varies, but honestly, 11 years old and hunting with a 50 pistol? Not earth shattering or anything, just surprising.

It’s no hogzilla, but it was quite an event taking him with a knife.

As a hunter/fisher I thought that was cruel. First, what kind of a hunter uses a .50 caliber pistol? (I guess it hurts Jr.’s shoulder to fire a rifle…awe boo-hoo!) Then they followed the animal around for 3 hours so Jr. could get a clean shoot. Meanwhile, Dad and the guides stood back with high-powered rifles. Am I crazy for thinking that hunters should respect the life of their prey and not allow it to suffer greatly?

Sorry, but I despise “trophy” hunting, especially canned hunting. At least they’re going to make sausage.

You all probably don’t want to hear how a bowhunting trip can go either. I’m willing to bet that if the kid and his dad had thought they would encounter something of this size they would have brought different weapons.
I have the conch and I say…..kill the pig, spill his blood!!!

I’m from Mississippi and got my law degree in Mississippi. I consider myself an intelligent person. The jokes DO get old.

Yes, an 8 inch filet knife. I highly recommend the experience. We used Catahoula hounds to locate the pigs and we used Dogos (a breed from Argentina) as “catch” dogs. They had kevlar vests to protect them from the tusks. That’s the way they “stick a pig” down there (South Texas.)
