Crisis averted: Saudis arrest Christian on the loose in Mecca

posted at 12:45 pm on May 25, 2007 by Allahpundit

Thank goodness they nabbed him before he could infect anyone with any Golden Rule cooties. How seriously do they take this stuff? This seriously:

Nirosh Kamanda, a Sri Lankan Christian, was detained by the Saudi Expatriates Monitoring Committee last week after he started to sell goods outside Mecca’s Great Mosque.

After running his fingerprints through a new security system, Saudi police discovered that he was a Christian who had arrived in the country six months earlier to take a job as a truck driver in the city of Dammam. Kamanda had subsequently left his place of work and moved to Mecca.

And of course, this seriously:

You can almost hear leftists thinking while they read this story, “Which other segregationist religious practices can I cite to get the Saudis off the hook here?”

If he was Mexican he could stay indefinitely on a Z visa.

pedestrian on May 25, 2007 at 12:49 PM

The libs are saying he should know better and he got what he deserves. I got a bad headache.

tomas on May 25, 2007 at 12:56 PM

Did he have a laser pointer? (At least it’s a veiled threat.)

Buck Turgidson on May 25, 2007 at 12:58 PM

He was just doing the jobs that Saudis won’t do…

Bad Candy on May 25, 2007 at 12:58 PM

Amazing how a back water country like Saudi Arabia can control THEIR borders… and we can’t…

…. sigh….

Romeo13 on May 25, 2007 at 12:59 PM

No doubt CAIR will spring into action in defense of Mr. Kamanda.

So true Allah. Unfortunate though.

I’m not sure he got arrested for being a Christian. I think he was arrested for what he was selling. I heard he was selling George Bush Action Figures….bad move.

Now they’re going to need to sanitize the entire place: contact with the infidel. That’s the reason for their footbaths in mosques, you know.

PRCalDude on May 25, 2007 at 1:19 PM

Insert HOV joke here.

So what happens to the infidel’s who take the “Taif Riyadh” exit??

heatherrc77 on May 25, 2007 at 1:32 PM

So they can determine your religion through fingerprint analysis now.. wow those Saudis are real smart. I say we melt the place down.

Viper1 on May 25, 2007 at 1:34 PM

Ahh, religious tolerance. It’s a beautiful thing. At least the muslims can go visit the Vatican though.

RedKnight on May 25, 2007 at 1:38 PM

Nice to see all of our aid and influence has opened up more freedoms in Saudi Arabia. Oh wait, it hasn’t done that at all. Great “friends” we’ve got there.

We should get whoever built their security system to take care of our border. Amazing what you can do when you really want to keep out the riff-raff like Christians.

Just imagine if they found a ham sandwich within city limits.

Hening on May 25, 2007 at 2:23 PM

Can you imagine the howl of protest from Muslims if the Vatican arrested a Muslim in St. Pete’s and threw him in prison for being a Muslim?

While the Saudis imprison any Christian they catch in Mecca I note that at the same time they have funded the largest mosque in Europe in Rome, just three miles from Vatican City. Doubtless the Saudis would argue they have a right to build a mosque in Rome just like any other religion.

Which is the huge advantage we have over the Euros. Could you imagine if we were importing Moslems at this rate?

True….but have you ever had to endure a Catholic Wedding or Funeral….UGH! What should only lat 30 minutes they somehow extend to 4 hours.

My husband is Hispanic (born here to legal immigrants) and we probably went to a wedding or funeral once every week. The service was always in a Spanish Catholic church spoken completely in Spanish. I don’t speak a lick of Spanish, so it dragged on even longer….

Now, we all know Global Warming is going to do that in due time…no need for us to speed up the process.

Viper1 on May 25, 2007 at 1:34 PM

We’re not done pumping the oil out via Halliburton horizontal drilling. Once that’s done there won’t be any need to melt it down. It will be a nice place to go visit the palace ruins. And Mecca would make a great casino town.

That was my point of focus as well.

Saudi Expatriates Monitoring Committee.

Say it slowly, savor it, let it roll across the tongue. Tolerance must be enforced somehow, eh?

Freelancer on May 25, 2007 at 8:24 PM

No Christians in Mecca, then no Muslims in the West.

I could live with that bargain.

At least then we could keep our shoes on in airports.

And have more money to concentrate on the borders.

I guess Mecca is becoming a Mecca for postcard hawkers. Who’d a thunk it.
