House minority leader John Boehner was brought to the brink of tears this evening during debate in the House over the Iraq spending bill, which eventually passed, 280-142. CNN reports:

“I didn’t come here to be a congressman — I came here to do something,” the Ohio Republican said as he choked up with tears in his eyes on the House floor. “And I think at the top of our list is providing for the safety and security of the American people. That’s at the top of our list. After 3,000 of our fellow citizens died at the hands of these terrorists, when are we going to stand up and take them on? When are we going to defeat them?”

“Ladies and gentlemen, if we don’t do it now, if we don’t have the courage to defeat the enemy, we will long, long regret it,” he added.

The democrat party doesn’t think the muslims want to destroy us. You can’t fight an enemy you don’t believe exists.

It’s just that simple.

SouthernGent on May 24, 2007 at 9:17 PM

Boehner has been kicking arese in the minority. Where was he when conservatives were in the majortiy?

Exit question: Will he be the man to lead the party after the amnesty purge?

Theworldisnotenough on May 24, 2007 at 9:20 PM

God bless him, he’s got it right. You are correct, SouthernGent, the democrats can’t fight an enemy they will not acknowledge even exists. Who would have ever thought this could happen in America? On this large a scale? God Bless our troops!

Exactly!
If Gore put out a movie telling the Dems that gravity did not exist, ½ of them would step off the edge of buildings to prove him right.

abinitioadinfinitum on May 24, 2007 at 9:29 PM

And if have of Gore’s followers stepped off the ledge, I believe they would float in mid-air, gravity or not.

huckleberry on May 24, 2007 at 9:30 PM

I caught this earlier on Drudge, Boehner is coming into his own..finally. I gotta appreciate a guy that can understand the big picture on the War and on the immigration bill….

Rock on John

commonsensehoosier on May 24, 2007 at 9:31 PM

Half!

huckleberry on May 24, 2007 at 9:31 PM

If Mr. Boehner keeps this up maybe he should run for president.

Rose on May 24, 2007 at 9:34 PM

Good for you John. Good for you.

csdeven on May 24, 2007 at 9:42 PM

What’s he doing, representing Americans? Supporting the troops by supporting their mission?

I don’t get it.

NellE on May 24, 2007 at 9:55 PM

Boehner is from my neck of the woods. Glad to see him getting some recognition.

“Ladies and gentlemen, if we don’t do it now, if we don’t have the courage to defeat the enemy, we will long, long regret it,” he added.

Amen…and START LISTENING TO THE SOLDIERS WHO BEG US TO SUPPORT THEIR MISSION — instead of IGNORING them and casting their views and opinions aside – or indirectly scorning them and essentially SPITTING ON THEM which the LEFT BLOGS DO DAILY!

It’s sad when a lying sacks of crap like Paul McNulty is given more consideration and “ear time” than the brave, DEDICATED men and woman who actually believe in what they are doing.

Topsecretk9 on May 24, 2007 at 10:32 PM

This is the first time in a long time that I have actually seen a politician in Washington who seemed like they were more concerned about the well being of the American people than they were about getting re-elected.

What a patriot!

Bravo Congressman Boehner!

Jodella on May 24, 2007 at 10:33 PM

You know this guy is desperately fighting that always-whirling spiral down the toilet (Read: Congress).

I could never possibly comprehend the forces that tear at men like this day in and day out.

But witnessing this one moment, in the midst of the inverted dive this country seems bound and determined to take, it’s very inspiring to see someone try to take the controls.

wccawa on May 24, 2007 at 10:35 PM

I think we can claim this as a major victory by Bush.

Why ? Because it removes the idea that Iraq is purely a Republican war. Because now a full controlled DEMOCRATIC congress has agreed to fund it.

Its no longer just BUSH’s war.

William Amos on May 24, 2007 at 10:48 PM

William Amos: You ain’t far from me…

I was at Boehner’s 92 victory party. It was the only thing we had to celebrate that night. He’s a real guy. Had a Winston burning in one hand and a Miller in the other. Not in his district anymore, but I can tell you he’s the real deal.

No.

Great, another Republican from Ohio crying on the House floor. You buckeye boys need to get ahold of yourselves.

Where do I go to see that this event gets planned and executed. I’ll reserve the theaters. Anyone else able to get me that film? I’m telling you that’s a win for America right there.

Thank you, Mr. Boehner. You keep leading like this and you may have 2.5 million American troops thanking you profusely for your leadership and foresight. At the end of the day, is there ever anything else you could ask for?

In my cynicism I want to believe this is fake; just like the others in Washington who just say the words and then lead us all down the road to the fiery chambers. But a part of me is still looking for the one who will actually mean what he says and then act on it. Will Boehner *act* on his genuine attitude towards the immigration bill, or will he follow the will of the President? (whom I deeply respect, but not on that issue) It’s high time someone became emotional about the Islamic fundamentalist’s desire to destroy us and our entire Western Civilization. I hope others will come along and stand with him. I will.

abinitioadinfinitum on May 24, 2007 at 9:29 PM

Worse, if Bush were to say gravity existed, Dems would coil up some chickenwire, put a cinderblock on it, and light a saucer of gasoline under it to prove buildings don’t fall down.

Dusty on May 24, 2007 at 11:40 PM

Why, when we have the overwhelming miltary advantage, we do not destroy the Jihadists everywhere, now, while we can, is the sign of a Civilization in instinctual chaos.

(Or is it just intellectual derelection of duty?)

profitsbeard on May 25, 2007 at 12:52 AM

Democrats dropped troop withdrawal deadlines because they were unable to overcome a veto and unwilling to risk cutting off money for the troops. . .

From the CBS article you eventually get to from the link above. “Unwilling to risk?” What “risk” would that be? Um, troops dying because they don’t have enough equipment? No, I think rather risking incurring political damage from implementing their traitorous slow bleed plan. No guts, no glory, even for traitors. Even a traitor has to take some risks to succeed in his nefarious occupation. These people are so pathetic, they are even pathetic traitors, thank heaven.

smellthecoffee on May 25, 2007 at 12:52 AM

when are we going to stand up and take them on? When are we going to defeat them?”

Is he talking about the Pro-Amnesty people or the Illegal Invaders?

Tim Burton on May 25, 2007 at 2:15 AM

I appreciate him now more then ever.

msipes on May 25, 2007 at 2:30 AM

When are we going to defeat them?”

It seems it will be good if the U.S. government defeats them, but it seems it will also be good if private persons with wealth and contacts take up the matter themselves.

Kralizec on May 25, 2007 at 2:40 AM

The dems are beginning to see how it looks to be with their shirts off, they lost them and are rather embarrassed as adam and eve in the garden of eden. They tried to make Bush out to be this big bully…and they took a gamble and look stupid wasting time proving to more Americans that they really do not support the troops.

Good job pelosi, you wench.

I think this will help in the dems undoing…….will be interesting to watch this unfold.

Highrise on May 25, 2007 at 3:12 AM

With this country rapidly going down the drain its enough to make you cry.

During my many years on this earth I have never seen things so effed up. Can we survive? I think not.

OBX Pete on May 25, 2007 at 4:14 AM

He is head and shoulders above the rest. And his beautiful blue eyes don’t hurt either.

Thompson-Boehner ‘08!

flutejpl on May 25, 2007 at 8:24 AM

Pink ties and man tears are enough to confuse me. His message was correct, but Patrick Henry and John Paul Jones managed to get it out without the man tears.

I can’t imagine spending the day in that viper’s pit and hearing my coutry trampled on by those elected to defend it.

Hening on May 25, 2007 at 8:29 AM

What’s with some of these comments? Derision because he had tears? Doesn’t detract from the content. I think it enhances it.

smellthecoffee on May 25, 2007 at 12:52 AM

Thank the Lord these turds are so f*cking spineless.

Way to show some Malkins, John!

“when are we going to stand up and take them on? When are we going to defeat them?”

Let’s hope the Repubs start talking like this louder and more often. Faster please…

canvas on May 25, 2007 at 12:25 PM

Two of our “second tier” presidential candidates have been making this point for years now. But the right has been so busy slamming them as fringe whack-jobs that they are virtually ignored. Shame on us.

Thank you, John Boehner, for your integrity. Don’t lose it.
