Ahem, allow me to revise a part: Paul had the least amount of candidate acceptability, not disapproval (sorry), but the point of my point is still the same.

Y'know, when I looked at the Hotair results and compared it to the whole blogosphere, I noticed something interesting: on the blogosphere one, Paul was at the top, but at the same time had one of the most increasing rates of disapproval. This tells me, in turn that the concept of Paul supporters (a.k.a. "spammers") are really milking their candidate for all its worth, while simultaneously all the real Republicans are indicating exactly what they think of him. That alone can explain Paul's dual approval/ disapproval ratings.

Want to see the spamming in action? Go the the GOP Straw Poll results page, look for the list of linked candidate names grouped as Supporters of:, and click on each name to see how those who picked each candidate as first choice viewed the other candidates in terms of acceptable/unacceptable. When you get to Ron Paul, you'll know...

BTW, I got an email from Mark Noonan (GOPBloggers.com):

we suspected it might happen, but after the massive importuning of Paul supporters, we decided that we'd put him in the poll this time. If we find that it is Paul spamming, then we'll take appropriate action.

I'm certain he means pro-Paul spamming, not that it would be ordered by Congressman Paul himself, in case anyone thinks it reads that way.

If we win, all of HA is invited, including the trolls. San Diego is beautiful at any time in the year.

Madame Hitlery gets the coronation. We're gonna have all the fun this election cycle. Let's face it, when all is said and done, we're all gonna vote for the Republican no matter who it is. There may be a few Losertarian party members but the rest of us will be riding the elephant. Hopefully we won't be scooping up elephant dung in November.

I agree about Huckabee. Even though his polling numbers aren’t there, I consider him a top tier candidate, replacing McCain, who is off my list of acceptable candidates. He’s just wearing thin with this immigration deal and his stance on expanded questioning of terror suspects.

But, like always, whoever can beat the leading dem will get my vote for the nomination.

doesn't unacceptable mean that you wouldn't vote for them, even if they were the nominee? I won't vote for McCain (self-serving jerk) or Guliani (actaully a leftist except defense/law and order). If one of them gets it, I won't be voting next year.

Oh, I know that noone here will accept a straw poll blindly. Just saying the number in that particular column is poorly derived and of little value.

Of course the poll itself isn't reality, especially now that the Paul folks are gaming it. I see at last snapshot that only 29 respondents who didn't mark him their first choice consider him acceptable. Try as they might, this comes through.

Freelancer, the most useless numbers are every single one in that poll. Ron Paul has yet to get beyond 5% in the pretty reliable national polls yet he seems to do much beter in this one. How can that be?

I have high hopes for Fred. That doesn't mean that I'll accept this poll blindly.

Funny thing is even with all the spamming by the Paulites their guy still has the fewest number of positive votes out of all the candidates.

DannoJyd, don't look at that % column on the left, it's the most useless number presented on the results page. Use the raw acceptable/unacceptable numbers:

McCain 532 acceptable / 2883 unacceptable
Paul 507 acceptable / 2795 unacceptable

That's 85% voting against in both cases.

Those -61.1% and -59.5% numbers are gotten by dividing the net difference between acceptable and unacceptable numbers into the total number of responses. So if a candidate had 50% for both acceptable/unacceptable (Tancredo is close to that), that result would be a zero. That result is weak for analytical purposes. Plus it doesn't account for people who chose not to respond one way or the other to that candidate.

Remind me again why Ron Paul is even included? I'd bet that if you checked the IP logs of the Ron Paul votes, you'd find many numerous votes from the same network in regular time intervals as did Charles at LGF found- they vote, disconnect, reconnect with different IP, and vote again. And again. And again.

With around 1% support in real polls, I don't see his being included as worth the hassle.
