Audio: Romney unloads on Edwards for “war on terror” comments

Mitt got a rep after CPAC for being a mediocre speaker but he’s in the moment here. Replete with (apocryphal) Edmund Burke quote!

Blowback

I have to admit Romney has shown me alot more than I expected from him.

I have moved from uncertain to a positive veiw of him

Good, campaigning against the democrats is what the republicans should have been doing all along. This is good!

Point out the all the head in the sand, er… no that would ruin a $400.00 hair cut…. so… hair brain… that’s it!

Kini on May 24, 2007 at 4:40 PM

Now if Bush would take this speech and apply it to the Mexican border we would have something in 2008.

right2bright on May 24, 2007 at 4:47 PM

Impressive…I’ll admit.

Are we sure this guy’s from Mass??

What difference now would Romney make if the amnesty passes? What difference would anyone make once amnesty passes? Could you imagine a new Congress and President repealing it? Then a judge would block it saying it’s already started, we can’t change the rules on the poor immigrants….

ScottG on May 24, 2007 at 4:49 PM

The more I hear Mitt! speak, the more it looks like that chicken$hit ¿fred? is a poser.

csdeven on May 24, 2007 at 4:51 PM

Patrick Henry: Give me liberty or give men death!

If Patrick were a liberal: Uhhhh..let me rephrase that.

If it was Edwards: Do they have a spa around here?

Speakup on May 24, 2007 at 4:53 PM

It is amazing that with all that has transpired since 2001(Hell, for the last 20 years) that any of this has to be said out loud. Obviously, Mitt is preaching to the choir here….he knows it…his audience knows it. Why does the message have to be put out to the non-believers in such a passive way?

Oh yeah, they refuse to believe the facts. Nevermind.

Romeo13 on May 24, 2007 at 5:01 PM

Now wouldn’t it be nice to have a president that would be willing and able to stand up and say these things???!!!

Zetterson on May 24, 2007 at 5:12 PM

Hehe…Romeo13. We love CS, and make it a practice to smile and nod at him when he gets started.

It’s a compulsion, so we understand and support him in his FDS. ;)

Love ya, CS.

Zetterson on May 24, 2007 at 5:12 PM

Why, yes, yes it would, Zet. But with that bi!ch of an Amnesty Bill, we may not have a choice come 2008…we’ll be chest deep in taxes and service-sucking new “citizens”.

Really? What has the non-candidate who fakes out his supporters, is pro-choice, and a washington lobbiest done lately except talk about wondering if he should decide to contemplate a thought to maybe think about making a committment to mull over a possible decision?

Key here is that you took somthing Romney said… and managed to make it about Fred!…

Tell me… just where in that clip was Fred! talked about? or mentioned?… was he sittin in the audience and I missed him?

Was he mentioned by someone in a prior post in this thread??? did I miss it?

When EVERY post suddenly is about Fred!, it does suddenly sound like a whacko lefty talking about Bush da Debil!

Romeo13 on May 24, 2007 at 5:34 PM

Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo…
Deny thy comments to CS, and refuse to take the bait.

Down that road, lies ulcers, Love.

Fred Thompson really has become overrated in the blogosphere…give me Mitt Romney all day long over him.

omnipotent on May 24, 2007 at 6:03 PM

Mitt! sounded real sharp in this clip. I expect him to continue to gather support and pretty soon McCain will be gone and Rudy will be looking over his shoulder.

But, aalas, that’s when the Mormon haters will come crawling out from under their slimy rocks and skewer him.

csdeven on May 24, 2007 at 6:18 PM

OK, who is manbearpig and why?

csdeven on May 24, 2007 at 6:19 PM

It’s a good clip; but he needs to move around a little on stage. Keeping the same post for 2 minutes…he’s like Gore! :P

I like Mitt the more I hear him.

Just don’t ask me to refuse my name…

Romeo13 on May 24, 2007 at 6:27 PM

Better yet, explain that to the US troops who are combatants in the actual War on Terror… you piece of Sh*t!

I said it months ago. Many people were buying into the liberal media take on Romney. This speech is exactly what Romney always sounded like as govenor. Moreover, he sounds the same no matter if it is a prepared speach or an impromptu awnser.

Resolute on May 24, 2007 at 7:05 PM

After hearing Mitt speak I always wanna go out and buy something. This guy would rule on infomercials. Maybe he could sell vitamins or cooking products. He would make a another fortune.

Mojave Mark on May 24, 2007 at 7:30 PM

The quote “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” is often attributed to Burke, but does not appear in his works or recorded speeches.

– - Wikipedia.

William Saffire tried hard and could never find any proof of Burke having said that.

Just like the csdeven “red pickup” mantra?

hee hee hee

csdeven on May 24, 2007 at 9:58 PM

No, because I try to remain factual. If Fred wins, I’ll send you a “dinner for two, you and yours” gift certificate. Cheers!

No worries. Just “shakespearian” some sense into ya about debate with CS. ;)

I know, I know….GROAN. But do you blame me?

tickleddragon on May 25, 2007 at 12:18 AM

The more aggressively pro-active Romney gets, the more I like him. It’s the fire in the belly I’ve missed with him, but if he has it, I’m on board.

Too bad he and Giuliani could never be a ticket together. They are both too much #1 types to take a VP slot.

Halley on May 25, 2007 at 12:42 AM

Well, atleast Mitt Romney is speaking out. I haven’t heard much from the others. Disappointingly.

Highrise on May 25, 2007 at 2:51 AM

Been watching and listening to MITT! since January 2005 when he spoke to South Carolina Republicans (saw it on CSPAN)and I knew he was going to run.

Love him. Will vote for him.
