Video: Nuclear war erupts on “The View”; Update: Tomorrow will be “a little awkward,” says Elisabeth

With Rosie on her way out I guess there’s no reason for them to pretend they’re friends anymore. Here she is at her disingenuous worst, playing the “big, fat, lesbian” victim while deliberately twisting Hasselbeck’s point about the enemy in Iraq — namely, Al Qaeda — to accuse her of treating Iraqi civilians as the enemy. Or is it deliberate? The more I watch, the more I think she simply doesn’t know that Al Qaeda has a presence there. Hasselbeck should ask her at some point to describe the conflict right now as she understands it. Does she think we’re still fighting the Iraqi army, or just randomly attacking bands of civilians? That would go a long way towards explaining why she blames Bush for having killed 655,000 people while of course stridently insisting that she doesn’t think U.S. troops are terrorists — even though they’re the ones who are presumably guilty of doing the actual killing.
Hasselbeck challenges her on that point too, asking how can she say American soldiers aren’t terrorists when they’re the ones supposedly carrying out the Bushitler’s orders to liquidate Iraqis en masse. Rosie’s response: ignore the question and accuse Hasselbeck of being a bad friend for not mindlessly supporting her when she was criticized on Fox. Things deteriorate quickly from there, culminating in the two of them calling each other cowards.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this on broadcast TV. Be thankful I spared you the four-minute stump speech for Al Gore delivered by Behar that preceded it.
Coming up tomorrow, the paradigm case of bad facts making bad politics: Truthermania.
Update: They’re still friends but things are bound to be a little weird tomorrow, says Hasselbeck. Rosie claims she won’t be there tomorrow as it’s Kelli’s birthday. Which I guess means Truthermania is postponed.

Both aren’t that intelligent.
Iraq did attack the WTC…It is a FACT. Saddam had his hands all in the ‘93 attack. Clinton just didn’t have the cojones to respond.
Also, let’s not forget what he was doing with Michael Spiker (sp?) while Clinton was twiddling his thumbs.

It disturbs me that O’Donnel is repeatedly broadcasting the absurd and false 650,000 killed figure without being rebutted in the slightest. That’s the kind of disinformation that will actually tend to stick in people’s heads.

This might be an interesting angle to add to their conversation: http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/05/23/bush.iraq/index.html?section=cnn_latest
I wonder if whatever he is about to say is going to amount to anything of substance?
If it is going to be a significant declassification then why wait until now to release it to the public? Why wait until so much damage has been done politically to release it?
Something just doesn’t seem quite right about this. I don’t know what it is though.
Zetterson on May 23, 2007 at 1:09 PM
Not at all. We didn’t take kindly to Coulter’s remark about Edwards either, as you’ll recall. And something like that is particularly distasteful in a post of a video where Rosie complains about people slurring her for her orientation. Why prove her point?
Allahpundit on May 23, 2007 at 1:09 PM
Smack down opportunity lost. E has spunk but oh how I wish Michelle had been there instead.
Limerick on May 23, 2007 at 1:14 PM
Hasselbeck is getting better at this. Arguing with Rosie remindes me of Vince Vaughn trying to have a conversation with Ben Stiller’s character White Goodman in “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story”:
GOODMAN: …Quit now. Save yourself the embarrassment of losing with these losers in Las Vegas, La Fleur.
LA FLEUR: Alliteration aside, I’ll take my chances in the tournament.
GOODMAN: Yeah, you will take your chances.
LA FLEUR: I know. I just said that.
GOODMAN: I know you just said that.
LA FLEUR: Okay, I’m not sure where you’re going with this.
GOODMAN: Well, I’m not sure where *you’re* going with this.
LA FLEUR: That’s what I said.
GOODMAN: That’s what I’m saying to *you.*
LA FLEUR: All right.
GOODMAN: …TouchÈ.

Liz delivers teh smackdown! Rosie’s back was against the wall and she was kicking and scratching just to get out of that exchange with any shred of “dignity”.

Didn’t Rosie play the Stay Puft Marshmellow man in Ghost Busters?

Video’s of The View are harder and harder to watch. Even with Elisabeth coming out swinging, I can barely bring myself to watch them.
I think it will be good when Rosie is gone for good, and then maybe we will have fewer “highlights” to stomach. I know you like Rosie for the content, AP. But, I will be glad when she is gone. But, I suppose she will pop up somewhere else anyway, so…
nailinmyeye on May 23, 2007 at 1:20 PM
Someone should ask Rosie to tell us all, on national television, what sect of Islam al-Qaeda is loyal to.
Should make for some interesting video clips. I’ve got to run to the store later, to pick up some popcorn.
amerpundit on May 23, 2007 at 1:20 PM
I couldn’t bring myself to watch it. I get nervous for Hasselbeck, with all of those nuts surrounding her.
amerpundit on May 23, 2007 at 1:22 PM
The View is on right now on the west coast. I turn it on, but could only take it for a few seconds. Listening to the voices of four screeching, dim harpies–yes, EH too–attempting to talk over each other makes me homicidal.

baldilocks on May 23, 2007 at 1:23 PM
AP,
You need to find a clip of Monty Python’s Argument Clinic skit where Michael and John are doing nothing but saying “Yes, it is!”, “No, it isn’t!”
It would go well with that clip.
TwinkietheKid on May 23, 2007 at 1:23 PM
So, who, in retrospect, is worse? Star Jones or Rosie O?
amerpundit on May 23, 2007 at 1:26 PM
I just love how Joy kept grabbing Elizabeth by the wrist and saying “shhhh!” at her. Notice how she never once said it to Rosie.
Shhhh Little Ms. Republican. Your opinions are irrelevant.
CookeyD on May 23, 2007 at 1:26 PM
Rosie’s ploy, as it is with most liberals, is when backed into a corner, become a victim, thus the “big fat lesbian” remark. It was cheap but expected. It was good to see Elisabeth fired up. Joy could have left and no one would have noticed. The rest of Rosie’s tenure should be interesting. She only has just so long to get all her real beliefs out there. I am sure she is up to it. Hopefully, Elisabeth is as well. I think Elisabeth did just fine.
Glynn on May 23, 2007 at 1:29 PM
You all think Knut is such a cutie pie but Rosie is what happens when it grow up. You can’t reason with it, you can’t talk to it, it only wants to feed.

JayHaw Phrenzie on May 23, 2007 at 1:31 PM
Oh, I don’t agree. You just can’t have an argument with Rosie without resorting to raising your voice. She just gets louder and louder. I like to see some spirit there, plus I would never describe Elisabeth as a harpie. In full blown passion, she is even lovelier than ever.

Allah, you’re killing me with these posts. Youtube is banned at work so much so that the videos appear as blanks, and my home computer tends to crash when I watch videos.
Anyway, it’s nice to hear that the gloves are coming off. I never liked Hassleback’s insistence that behind the scenes they’re all really friends, though (without watching the video) I imagine she was being honest at the time and that the Truther bs being spouted by Rosie has changed things.

I have friends, who live back east, call me and tell me to watch the View because Rosie was finally getting the smackdown she deserved from Elizabeth. Elizabeth was great. Thank God for her. I liked the guest host too, need to find out more about her becaue I loved the part about Al Gore, she was funny.
Rosie and Joy need to understand that they don’t speak for me or for most in this country. Just because they have the microphone and the biggest mouths, doesn’t mean what they blather is the truth, relevant, or appreciate!
Go Elizabeth! when I get a minute I’ll g to ABC and leave her a positive and appreciative comment.
CCRWM on May 23, 2007 at 1:41 PM
By my math, 655,000 people comes out to 449 people dead every single day for 4 years.
You’d think the MSM would pick up on that…
Mazztek on May 23, 2007 at 1:45 PM
I have to wonder if ABC Legal told Ro to STFU about Blackwater. She could easily “explain” that the 650k were slaughtered by the “mercenaries” from Blackwater and not the poor impoverished brainwashed over-extended troops. The moonbat talking points are there, she just isn’t using them. There must be liability attached to statements that employees of a corporation are murdering pregnant women like EH.
rw on May 23, 2007 at 1:46 PM
You just don’t mess with Blackwater. (evil grin)
csdeven on May 23, 2007 at 1:48 PM
I never watch these. Never. Well, almost never.
Okay, most of them.
That said, Elizabeth looked stunning and the football analogy was spot on and Rosie didn’t even deign to respond to it. I think she got up this morning and said, today’s the day, Rosie.
As for Rosie, I don’t know whether it’s a matter of the register she speaks in, or if the engineers just mike her up louder. But she succeeds in drowning out Hasselbeck just by dint of sheer lungpower every time.
see-dubya on May 23, 2007 at 1:48 PM
Please, AP, don’t stir that pot again.
As for the clip, I’m still debating on whether I want to watch it – all these View clips do is boil my blood. It’s not so much Ro (she is what she is), it’s the audience that applauds her ignorant comments, and the rest of the ladies (other than Elisabeth) that just sit there and do nothing while Ro spews her venom.
Rick on May 23, 2007 at 1:49 PM

It is most disappointing to hear the cheers of the crowd when Rosie shoots off one of her “bumper sticker” remarks.
We are engaged is very serious business regarding terrorism and the future of our country. Anyone who would hear Rosie and then cheers her words truly worries me.

That was awesome! I think the next few weeks are going to provide tons of entertainment to us all.
corbettw on May 23, 2007 at 1:57 PM
I GET SO SICK OF ROSIE USING THAT BOGUS # FROM LANCET!
When every leftist group who has been counting the deaths in Iraq (Iraq Casualty Cout) and come up with numbers less than 100,000… The fact that Rosie repeats a number that is 10 times higher than the others says more about her than it does about truth.
I wish Hasselback would nail her on that!
Rosie is an America Hater. She makes it more obvious by the day.
gatewaypundit on May 23, 2007 at 1:57 PM
I do think that Rosie and Elisabeth were friends on this show. Although it might take a few days to smooth over this one.

I think we need to, at some point, thank Rosie for evolving into Elizabeth’s tackling dummy. The girl is starting to really get the idea of how to hit hard, clean and stright ahead.
Sometimes the only thing that makes a good competitor is having the right (not good or bad, but right) competition.

I am convinced rosie has a mental disorder. Notice the same *bawling* during the scuffle that babawa didn’t *back her* either.
She wants to be able to throw out opinions like Elisabeth says and not back them up. I usually don’t watch these clips because Elisabeth is manipulated and screamed at and it’s hard to see. But this one..wow..good for you Elisabeth.

Quoting her on these ’social issues’ is valid because it Proves that people are a product of their environment. Rosie hangs with the deluded mad gay chip-on-the-shoulder crowd and now she believes the lies and rhetoric they all swap at the local bathhouse. So when cornered they cry out with what works …”POOR ME” and/or “bad you” and include insults.
Psychologically, Rosie tries (to no avail) to bring others down below her, a power move that fails miserably….yet Rosie doesn’t know it.

I also chuckled over joy talking about gore’s book and it says in there the bad bad media blah blah after oj simpson. So wth gore, you want to start censoring that? That is what it sounded like.
I’m sick of these liberals only wanting to do what they want while in power or having the platform and shaking their finger at others…censoring, threatening, manipulating……
Highrise on May 23, 2007 at 2:17 PM
It wouldn’t matter if the top al Qaeda guy in Iraq was telling Rosie that it’s them and other insurgents that are killing and that the US military are the ones protecting the Iraqi people … she would call him a neocon liar.

I don’t know – I get the feeling she’d probably tell him she felt his pain and didn’t blame him for acting out against this oppressive Imperialist American machine run by the Bushitler. She’d probably then tell him that she is on the same boat because the neocons are constantly attacking her and the rest of the helpless American people.

Look – little Blondie was/is getting paid. Paid to keep her mouth shut and also not to think.
After months of crap from Rosie’s mouth, you would think she would have a prepared rebuttals for every point by now.
Apparently she hasn’t been watching the show she is on. Or she decided it was better not to think about Rosie’s comments, since the could not confront her.
I don’t know Barbara Walter excuse. The least she could do is shut down Rosie once in a while when she goes too far. But the “respected” journalist may be to long in the tooth.

I use to think Elizabeth was pretty weak because she always let Rosie get away with her insane views without any response to them, but damn, that was awesome!
She has finally had it with Rosie like the rest of the rational, sane world has and finally someone on that show (other than a few guests like O’Reilly) has got the nerve to put obnoxious Rosie in her place. Now, I’m just waiting for Elizabeth to tell Rosie “don’t let the door hit in your big butt on the way out!”.

Haven’t even watched this. The write up and comments tell the story.
I never understand how many of the commenters are smitten with Elisabeth. She’s such a dingaling. All of them are, the biggest being Barbara, right after that utterly stupid audience.
Rosie’s appearance and anything else have nothing to do with this most serious topic. It is a travesty that these brainless fluzies get to even talk about this.
And, for any woman today to have to show breasts, fake or real, to make any point, especially a serious humanitarian or political one, except in a bar when fishing for company, is stupid and in poor taste, and demeaning to women who think and work for an honest living.
Unless they throw them all out, they should change the topics to soap-opera items.

With my being female, her looks don’t matter; what’s being said is most important but I can’t take it if the voices are like scratching on a dozen blackboards. And a harpy is one who screeches, looks notwithstanding.
The last thing I want to hear at any time of day is a bunch of hollering women. But in the morning it is especially grating.
baldilocks on May 23, 2007 at 2:40 PM
I really feel bad for Elisabeth. Sure she stipulates way, way too much, but she’s in an impossible situation, surrounded by those moronic gorgons day after day whilst having to also try and be friends with them so Tokyo Rosie won’t get the vapors. I’d have to take poison if it were me. She deserves a medal.
I agree, also, that the Joy Behar prelude that Allah skipped is even more infuriating. It’s just several minutes of Joy regurgitating the left’s greatest BDS hits and pretending that she’s speaking substantively.
Kensington on May 23, 2007 at 2:42 PM
