Exit question: Could he eke by on only $10 mil?

Nah. probably not. But he won't get the nomination because of choices like this - us "regular people" do see through it.

Edwards may be on to something...

Why, I can think of no better authority than Edwards when it comes to poverty- look at the financial hardships he has to endure every day. Perhaps next he should charge 55 grand to discuss the benefits of tort reform to curtail the activities of ambulance-chasing personal injury attorneys.

Other Democrats can follow suit:

Bill Clinton can get big money speaking about the benefits of marital fidelity.

Hillary can speak of the need to be open, honest and consistant.

Murtha can give speeches denouncing corruption in Congress; Diane Feinstein can be co-speaker.

Ted Kenedy can give a seminar about the health benefits of staying thin and abstaining from alcohol.

The name and title on his business card:

Mr. John Edwards, a.k.a Silky Poney
The Absolute Moral Authority on Hypocrisy (TAMAOH), also Presidential Candidate

The acronym sounds like a leftie cult and they love nothing more than an "absolute moral authority" on anything.

p.s. Don't question them on anything.
p.p.s. He is irrelevant.
p.p.p.s. Madonna, from her 15-bath castle, has written "Hey you" to hook up with Al Gore's lecturing on how we should live to save the world from us.

I would have spoke for half that and I would have said something "more interesting and controversial"* than he would have.

Controversial in a non-PC yet absolutely true about poverty way.

In which of the 2 America’s does $55k for a speech belong?

Wade on May 22, 2007 at 10:41 AM

And a $400 haircut, and a 28,000 square foot house?

First thing: I don't like his hair all that much. It's the cut every white 5th grader in North Carolina gets, and it isn't worth more than $10.

Second thing: can you really wrap your mind around the notion of a 28,000 square foot house? I mean, walk around your place for a few minutes, do a little math.

I live on a 40,000 square foot lot, just under an acre. It takes me hours to mow the grass on a John Deere tractor; my dogs live like kings in a fenced back yard of more than 20,000 square feet. People I know can't believe how big the yard is (trade-off: the house is tiny).

His house is 70% of that lot.

Hey, knock it off about the $55,000 for the speech.

It doesn't write itself after all. I need speechwriters and consultants who have to prep the content so that it reaches the needed audiences.

I have to manage my appearances closely, and that takes time. And time means money.

/is it needed?

Strange how all these redistribution types always opt to pay the minimum taxes and place their wealth in trusts that sometimes include off shore accounts.

Of course could have the moral authority of Ron Paul..

From CQ Weekly: The Earmark Dossier of 'Dr. No' By David Nather
Mon May 14, 2:45 PM ET

There isn’t much that Rep. Ron Paul (news, bio, voting record) of Texas thinks the federal government should do. A self-avowed libertarian, “Dr. No” says he votes against any program he believes is not specifically authorized by the Constitution. As a longshot 2008 Republican presidential candidate, he has promised to get rid of the income tax his first week in the White House.

Apparently, though, earmarks are okay. According to new disclosure forms the House has just started using, Paul is the sponsor of no fewer than 10 earmarks in the water resources bill that passed the House last month. All would benefit his district, which stretches along the Gulf Coast between Galveston and Corpus Christi.

His wish list includes two projects to improve the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, at a combined federal cost of roughly $32 million. There’s also the sunken ship Paul wants the feds to remove from Freeport Harbor. And he wants the feds to take charge of maintaining the Pix Bayou Navigation Channel. There’s also a feasibility study for flood, hurricane and storm damage control projects along the coast. And there’s the mysterious “project in the vicinity of Galveston Bay.” (The bill provided no other details.)

It turns out, though, that for all his scourging of government excess, Paul never has been much of a crusader against earmarks. As he put it in a floor speech last year, “earmarks . . . are a symptom of the problem, not the cause. The real problem is that the United States government is too big, spends too much, and has too much power.”

See, there’s 2 Americas. One, where Americans donate the money they can to charities, to help the poor. Then, there’s the America where Presidential candidates charge students $55,000, to talk at their school about poverty. Edwards happens to live in the latter.

$55,000 dollars for (1) speech? WOW! And to think that will only buy poor Edwards Scissorhands (137) $400.00 dollar haircuts. This guy just keeps coughing up one hairball after another....
