[...] There’s been a lot of bad mojo about the JAM and southern Iraq in the news lately, from that questionable Guardian piece about Iran inciting the militias as part of its own “summer surge” to the long AP story about Sadr trying to consolidate power in advance of a U.S. withdrawal to the excellent Guardian report about Shiite militia dominance in Basra. If this wasn’t a coincidence, then the British and Maliki are either sending a message to Sadr and his southern capos that they can still make their lives tough if need be or else they’re trying to blast some of his ducks before he can get them in a row and make whatever move he’s planning to make. Gen. Odierno told WaPo that he thinks Sadr came back partly because there are “cracks” in the Mahdi Army that need repairing; officials who spoke to the Times say the same. So now they’ve created another big crack for him to fill before the local chapter splinters and the infighting to fill the power vacuum begins. Don’t be surprised in the next few weeks if other local JAM commanders decide to “resist arrest” and suffer the consequences. [...]

The Sadrists are also admitting openly now that Sadr is, in fact, in Iran. Exit question: What’s more ominous, their association with Tehran or the fact that they’re no longer worried about Iraqis finding out about it?

We’re waiting for the Dhems to say that there’s no linkage between Iran and terrorism.

It might not change anything, but it would sure make me feel better if we killed that fat f**k before we pull out. Or maybe even a smart bomb dropped on his victory rally after we do leave.

Which I guess means it’ll look like a toilet with garbage piled in the streets and masked goons with Kalashnikovs wandering around shouting at women to cover themselves.

It’s not necessary to nuke Iran in order to stop them. If an equivalent to WWII presents itself there’s no doubt the US would drop the big one. I mean look at it this way, Robert Spencer has 1938 alerts on jihadwatch. Not quite at August 1945 yet but if it comes to that.. no question, drop it.

Just to add to the chorus, and this is news? Duhhhh he has been trying to be the big dog since he was sure Sadamm was in custody and wouldn’t be around to snuff his worthless little life out like he did his daddy. A .30 caliber bullet 2 years ago would have rid us of this piece of excrement but Nooooooooo we had to be PC while fighting a war.
Maybe the Dems plan on suing him.

The latter. One of the things that has kept the Arabs together is the Persian/Shi’ite/Iranian threat.

My thought at the beginning of this war about our refusal to go in and get the enemy ( this Goon in particular) where they hide. i.e. Not going into mosques and other certain areas that the Muslims considered to be holy and off limits to Infidels. Would be looked back on as being as foolish as fighting toe to toe in two lines, shoulder to shoulder against the British in 1812. So called rules of war should not apply when fighting an enemy who does not respect their own lives, much less the life of our courageous military men and women. Had we gone into the mosques from the beginning I am certain we would be looking at an outcome much different then the one we view today and Sadr wouldn’t even be in the equation.

I’ve been generally supportive of the Bush Administration on the war, and especially supportive of Rumsfeld. Yeah, I’ve always complained about the wimpy rules of engagement, but beyond that, not too many complaints.

But the fact that this ugly, inbred, murderous, rabble rouser is still walking and talking (after at least three prime military AND political opportunities) to get rid of him back in 2003-2004 proves that Bush and Co. are no more competent in ‘nation building’ than they are on border security and wise immigration policy.
