Petraeus believes at least two of the missing soldiers may be alive

Cryptic but hopeful. What kind of information could he have to make him think one of them is dead but the others are okay?

“We know who that guy [i.e., the ringleader] is,” Gen. David Petraeus said in a May 18 interview with Army Times. “He’s sort of an affiliate of al-Qaida. … He’s the big player down in that area. We’ve tangled with him before.”

“Somebody’s given us the names of all the guys that participated in it and told us how they did it, and all the rest of that stuff,” he said. “Now, we have to verify that at some point in time, but it sounds spot on. We’ve had all kinds of tips down there. … We just tragically haven’t found the individuals. But on the other hand, they haven’t been able to smuggle out, at least to my knowledge, the traditional video.”

Petraeus said he didn’t know for sure if the three missing soldiers were alive or dead. “As of this morning, we thought there were at least two that were probably still alive,” he said. “At one point in time there was a sense that one of them might have died, but again we just don’t know.”

I just have to say..I HOPE SO!

But I don’t get my hopes up..we are at war and we have long learned that Al Qaeda has no interest in playing nice.

It DOES fill me with a sense of pride that they are doing a full court press trying to find these guys and that Al Qaeda and other terrorists are whining for them to stop looking.

I hate to say this, but I think it’d be better if they died in the initial attack, because that’s better than being tortured to death. I hope we catch these bastids and kill ’em as son as we get enough intel out of them. God bless our Soldiers!

It suggests that its A sunni leader and not shiia else we could trade those captured Iranians for them.

But I think we might have some higer up in Iraq they may want.

I say keep the pressure on them. If Al Queda is allowed to sit and play games it will turn out bad for them.

A shame their C-i-C is throwing away the country they’re dying for -back home.

And failed to set up an Iraq worth dying for -over there (allowing a theocratic Constitutional system to be set up).

I wish I liked to drink.

Bad week for the nation.
