When you asked, “Is that what they teach you here?” The answer is “NO” – they also learn:
1. That our Founding Fathers were slave owners and corrupt men.
2. That Global Warming is our biggest threat and it’s all America’s fault.
3. That Africa is full of AIDS and America doesn’t do enough to help.
4. That America occupies countries.
5. That America is imperialist and capitalist.
6. That Jihad is a legitimate reaction against bad foriegn policy in the US.
9. That almost everybody is gay.
10. That Right-Wing Christians are trying to take over the US government, are trying to replace Science with the Bible, and are trying to speed up the return of Christ by starting a nuclear war that will end the world.
Thanks Michelle, for telling those “tolerant” students what they are missing.

gmcjetpilot, you missed the mark (yet again) on Michelle’s statement that she was a harsher critic of the Bush administration than liberals.

What she said, and meant, was that she was a harsher critic of the administration than most liberals are. NOT that she criticizes the administration harsher than she criticizes liberals. Context, man, context.

I think it’s time to return to the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow quote at MM signature site, her pen (in this case, her voice) became a clarion.

The content and delivery of the speech could not have been crafted any better for the intended audience. This is a sign of a true professional public speaker. A top tier public speaker. I have to believe that some of those in the audience who dislike Michelle but chose to remain and listen, were swayed by her powerful words and convincing argument.

I’ll say it again, BRAVO Michelle, BRAVO!

One suggestion get a riser to stand on. You needed about 4 inches there, to see you better.

How much do you make for a speaking engagement like that if any? Just curious. Could not pay me enough with a crowd like that.

The only thing I can disagree with is; Michelle Malkin: “I’m as a harsh critic of the Bush admin as the Dems.” Really? I don’t care, and I think fairness and balance is overrated. State you opinion from your conservative view. Don’t pretend that you don’t avoid publishing negative things about Bush’s admin and LOVE publishing (ugly pictures) gabs and Gotch-a’s on Dems. It’s OK, admit it. Don’t suck up to liberals and say you are fair. They know you are not. My Gosh Conservatives spend 40% of you day repeating MAIN STREAM MEDIA is the problem for everything (with out stating specifics). Like the college couple murdered by the gang of blacks. You complain that the MSM did not cover it for lack of political reasons. So you cover it while making a political point. The facts of the case or the news story was secondary to jabbing at the MSM. Ironic or hypocritical. Stop looking for faults with your house and look at your RWM (right wing media – blogs, talk radio and Fox). There is some badness there as well.

I’ve not read anything else of Michelle’s but hot air and seeing her on Fox new, I can not with the one statement that she’s fair and balanced. That is OK. Frankly I tune in and log in for the other view.

College students think they know all, they don’t of course. I was an under grad and grad student once, albeit a technical degree. The good part is they have an opinion and are paying attention, which is more than most americans. The USA has the lowest voter turn out of any major industrialized democracy’s, which is sad.

This was a talk about 1st Amend rights, but it seemed like you just defended yourself the who time or complained about the wrongs done to you. Not sure that has anything to do with it other than not telling the truth and hurtful propaganda and demogogery sucks for all, especially if on the receiving end. I have herd Michelle get “nasty” with Pelosi for no real reason as an example. I don’t see much on Gonzalez on Hot Air? So to be fair Hot Air makes fun of Dems and Liberals.

That’s where the golden rule kicks in, “Do on to others as you would want them to do upon you.” Has Michelle done some below belt digs and unfair accusations? Yea. Has she been subject to the same? Yep.

What I don’t see are people on both sides apologizing and retracting there comments publicly.

And those cowards who left in the middle of the speech? Do they think they are making any sort of legitimate point?

Yesterday I was at my son’s UC Berkeley’s Poli Sci graduation in the Greek Theatre. If you saw Zombie’s photo essay a while back about the grove of oak trees that enjoyed a nude protest to “Save the Grove”, well, the Greek is right next to that. We had to walk right past that grove to get to the Greek, and sure ‘nough, there are protestors there still, in the most stereotypical hippy van you could possibly imagine, surrounded by all the attendant hippy crap. Food cooking, dreadlocks, ratty clothes, stench of unwashed human being, you name it. People are hanging around under the trees, laying in the sun, talking loudly to each other with all sorts of “progressive” rhetoric pitched just loudly enough to be sure that passers-by could hear how much these ridiculous (and pathetic) folks cared about the grove–and by extension, I suppose, all of Gaia. For 100 yards on either side of the van were the most trite (and lame) chalked slogans on the sidewalk. It was so predictible it was a joke–Scott Ott or Iowahawk could not have improved on it. My sister and I could only laugh as we walked by it, and shake our heads. Who the heck takes that sort of juvenile behavior seriously? Who are they going to convince?

Now the graduation speaker was the Solictor General of the State of Texas, and when he was introduced, many of the students booed. Guess why? Yep, he’s a conservative, and as far as they were concerned should not have been invited to speak. He was great, one of the best grad speakers I’ve heard, ever (I didn’t know he was a conservative until later). And he was booed.

Earlier in the day, we were at UC Merced for my daughter’s graduation, and the speaker was California’s Dem Lt. Gube, John Garamendi. Now, I don’t have much use for Garamendi, but still…he’s the Lt. Gube and he did come down from Sacramento to speak at UCM’s first real graduation ceremony. He said a lot of stupid and trite things about global warming, blah, blah, blah…did we boo? Did we protest that he was invited to speak? No, of course not. True, we did roll our eyes a time or two, but that was about it.

And that’s the difference between them and us. The people who walked out of Michelle’s speech in protest of her being a conservative refuse to countenance–or even explore–any ideas that go against their orthodoxy. We conservatives–especially those of us in a blue state and in blue professions–are more willing to listen to other views. We often don’t have much choice, true, but we tend to see such as opportunities to hone our own views, to refine our belief structures and to build our case for rationality and sense in the world.

The left just can’t seem to do that.

I was really annoyed at Ms Malkin for her criticism of Ann Coulter awhile back. She makes it so hard to stay mad at her, both being so intelligent, courageous and cute.

The beauty of it is that you can disagree with Michelle but with neither of you being disagreeable. It is practically impossible to agree with anyone 100% of the time, but for Liberals, even a 1% disagreement can label you a sexist, racist, homophobic, elitist, warmonger, .

Almost as impressive was the civility of those minds full of Loyola mush in the audience. But, part 2 will tell…

The only “atrocity” around these parts (here at HotAir) is the spelling and grammer in the posts of the participants (with the distinct possibility that my spelling is the most atrocious of all).

My collie says:

I too have no idea how Ms Malkin could be humiliated by pictures of her in a bikini. She’d be adorable in a bikini or a burlap sack. Of course, a lot of that is the beauty she has inside.

I better shut up before people start thinking I have a crush on her or something…

And Golfstreams are still great, and capitalism is too.

Isn’t Loyola a Catholic University?… I’ve never been in a Gulf Stream either and know that I won’t ever get to ride in one either.

Yes, Catie, it is a Catholic university. I haven’t seen the video yet, though I look forward to. However, I’ve been in a corporate Gulfstream many times and they were great. Regards and you also have a great weekend,
