[...] It’s “symbolic” insofar as there’s no urgent need at the moment for large numbers to avail themselves of the right. Whether that’ll still be true in 10 years is another story. As for why a left-wing party would once again quarterbacking the drive to absorb a huge, unassimilated population, I really just don’t know. It must be a coincidence. [...]

[...] I wrote about that the other day. This isn’t a key issue for the Democratic base so why put her Blue Dogs in play, especially when she’s going to have to get tough on Iraq this summer and that might not play well in their districts? Letting the issue drop would be a smart short-term strategy. And a very foolish long-term one. [...]

[...] Naturally, Pelosi’s going to try to roll that back once the bill gets to her. Why settle for five million new Democratic voters when she can make it 10 or 20? “I have serious objection to the point system that is in the bill now,” the speaker said on ABC’s This Week. “Yes, we should deal with the backlog [of workers seeking citizenship]. I completely agree with that. But the family unification principles which had been fundamental to American immigration are disrupted by what is in there now.” [...]

With their wealth and political power, it seems it should be the Americans who are growing in numbers and pushing into new territory, not the Mexicans. If American pen1ses and American vag1nas were allowed to do their work unimpeded, the Americans would once again reverse the direction of colonization. But if Mexicans and muslims love having children more than Americans, one has to figure Americans will dwindle away to nothing.

Bank of America will loan them the 5K and then the illegals will default on the loan and BofA will take the losses off their taxes and the american public will foot the bill anyway.

We just ditched BOA for their decision. I hope others do as well. I was seeing that BOA was hiding fees...it's crap like this that they are accommodating to the illegals that makes them nickel and dime their customers to death.

You're probably right. Instead of just having easy payments, they'll have no payments at all.

Can someone please give me amnesty? For anything? At all?

By the time this bill becomes law (and it will) you might as well forget about anything being in it about securing the border or enforcing our immigration laws and you had better bet that the timelines on the path to citizenship will be greatly shortened with no fines or returning home. Nobody will be enforcing our laws against those who refuse to sign up for amnesty either. The scary part isn't the illegal Hispanic workers however, think of all the Middle Eastern visa overstays, border walkers that will be legal and then tell me that anyone involved in this is interested in the security of our nation or the GWOT. Several of the Fort Dix Six would be legally here under this bill. We're witnessing the beginnings of the death throes of America and I doubt there is a damned thing we can do for it.

I've been screaming this and screaming this (well, typing loudly =) on every blog site I can... I've emailed Mark Levin, Sean Hannity and Rush with the simple question.

Isn't this amnesty a violation of equal protection?

If so...

Who don't GOP think tanks who oppose it start up a class action lawsuit against the Federal Govt on behalf of all legal immigrants and citizens.

We do have the right to redress, after all...

If President Bush is forwarding a "North American Union," it seems he's doing the Americans a favor. Neither the U.S. nor Mexico is keeping up in population and total fertility with either the muslim countries as a group or with India. I don't pretend to know that the U.S. can annex Mexico while preserving its own present regime; however, if we imagine the two countries were successfully integrated today, the resulting country would have a population of 400 million people and, by my estimate, total fertility of about 2.2. It would still be puny, and getting punier, in comparison with the Dar al-Islam and India.

[...] Let’s be clear about one thing, the McCain-Kennedy bill is not about immigration reform, it’s a voter registration drive for Democrats (link). Once you give 12-20 million people (is there an accurate count?) legal status, they’ll demand voting rights. Nevermind all the people who’ve sacrificed so much to come here legally and play by the rules, that doesn’t matter. The rule of law does not matter. [...]

Tomas, thanks for your “constructive” criticism…hostile and totally useless.

What have YOU done to try to stop this, eh?

Get off your frakin’ soap box, and do something really constructive.

Ok...I'll leave it to you guys...right.

If only we were making the decision here, daviddunn. Instead it's being made by people who just see new voters.

I'm still in favor of that overdue tax revolt. I'm willing to turn Independent Contractor and stop giving these gov monkeys my money until they start listening to their REAL LEGAL constituents again.

Thank you daviddunn for your post. Your's is the reason I want Newt to run, as he has proposed the same. No new laws, just enforce the ones we already have.

My neighborhood is an example. My subdivision was built and zoned as "single family homes." Yet the Mexican invasion started about five years ago. They move in homes with multiply families, converting garages and building on rooms. We have tried several times, just to have the zoning law enforced. No luck. Housing prices have gone down and we feel stuck.

The same has happened in the surrounding area. Shops and grocery stores have closed to have a "Spanish only" take its place. I've gone inside some of these stores just to be stared back as if I'm the one invading.
