Al Qaeda is misjudging America if they think that broadcasting tape of tortured Americans will lead to American surrender. It might work with the Sheehan Left but not the Big Red Center of America. I can't think of a time in American history where such a tactic has worked for the enemy, but many where it has inflamed American opinion to press on to victory.

When the Nazis massacred 84 GIs at Malmédy during the Battle of the Bulge, it did not cow America nor lead to our surrender. It pissed America off. That's nothing you want to do.

When the North Koreans invaded South Korea, they captured US GIs, tied their hands behind their backs with telephone wire, lined them up, and shot them. That did not lead to American surrender but rather to a determined defense of Pusan, the invasion at Inchon, and an air bombardment that flattenned the major North Korean cities.

The Japanese militarists thought that Americans were soft and easily beaten. The Nazis thought they were hard and Americans soft and easily beaten. Saddam Hussein that America soft and easily beaten. Al Qaeda thinks America is soft and easily beaten.

They have no idea what America is about nor who they are dealing with. None at all.

More miraculous rescues have occurred.

<em>Let's hope this is one.</em>

I don't want to speculate one way or the other. We are looking hard for them and I am satisfied with that. This is one operation we don't need to know anything about until it is all over. The media trying to scoop this story has only a bad ending.

Hey Allah, they're still alive and Petraeus knows what's coming. Buckle up everyone, it's going to get nasty.

<blockquote>Website Participant Promotes Videotaping of Kidnap, Torture of US Troops in Iraq

Originally published on 3/6/2007 by Jihadist Websites -- OSC Summary in Arabic

Terrorism: Participant Advocates Kidnapping US Soldiers in Iraq, Tape their Torture to Swing Public Opinion

On 6 March, a jihadist website posted a message "advising the mujahidin in Iraq to kidnap US soldiers and tape their severe torture, to swing public opinion against the American administration and force all countries to withdraw from Iraq, as happened in Somalia in 1993."

The following is a summary of the message:

The participant started his message by "reminding everyone of the power of pictures and videos, particularly the sight of the four American dead soldiers being dragged in the streets of Somalia during the time of the Clinton administration in 1993, and the swift response from the American people and Congress in demanding, and obtaining, the immediate withdrawal of American troops from Somalia." But he said that "when four American soldiers [sic] were dragged in Al-Fallujah and two of them were hung up on a bridge, [President] Bush declared the end of main battles in Iraq, which absorbed the severity of the pictures." He theorized that "now with other countries pulling out of Iraq, increasing losses, and the lack of victories except for the assassination of Zarqawi, the American public is questioning the usefulness of the army in Iraq, especially with the new Democratically controlled Congress, so now is the time for a decisive and powerful hit to embarrass the American administration. Therefore, I suggest that the mujahidin in Iraq capture a group of American soldiers, tape them while being tortured severely, and then distribute the pictures widely, and that will, no doubt, force the American administration to admit its failure and pull out of Iraq."

He warned that "the sight of the soldiers being tortured is much more effective than the sight of blowing up tanks and armories, and will accelerate the defeat of the enemy."

At the end of his message, he asked "brothers to post these videos as soon as possible."</blockquote>

To clarify - the division told the family that he's now missing.

No one notified them about the 3-weeks ago (false) death. It turned out to have been an erroneous posting on MySpace.

This is an <a href="http://www.latimes.com/services/site/premium/access-registered.intercept" rel="nofollow">incredible story about one of the missing Soldiers</a>. The link needs an account the the LA Times, which I don't have.

<blockquote>Three weeks after enduring an incorrect report that her son had been killed in Iraq, Theresa Anzack said Tuesday that he was among four soldiers missing after a weekend ambush by insurgents south of Baghdad.

Trying not to cry, Anzack said, “Now, he’s missing for real…. I’m praying like I’ve never prayed before.”

Pfc. Joseph J. Anzack, 20, an Army gunner stationed south of the Iraqi capital, was reported dead in late April. Word of his death was even posted on a sign outside his former school, South High School in Torrance</blockquote>

Now it is known that one's remains have been found so decomposed that DNA tests are being done to identify the person. The family has been told by the division, and they know that there's a 1 in 4 chance that it could be their son who's dead.

The misinformation about his death started on MySpace, and spread all over his former high-school. No one appeared from the services and the family was devastated before they could hear from their son, via the Red Cross contacting him to call home.

Info from KFI's John and Ken show, where the aunt was a guest this afternoon.

The families of these missing soldiers are riding an emotional rollercoaster of enormous size. While we all hope and pray for the best I sometimes wish we would just stick to the facts and not engage in any sort tea leave reading or scuttle butt. For now the "No news is good news" rule applies.
