Newsweek: Does Bush’s belief in victory prove that he’s mental?

Weren’t we reminded again just this morning by one of the left’s leading lights how irresponsible it is to make diagnoses from afar?
Two things to note: one, the obligatory nod at Bush’s alcoholism and, by extension, the left’s favorite remote diagnosis; and two, her acceptance as observable fact that the war is lost and therefore any desire to persevere indicates a mental disorder. He is, quite literally in her opinion, non-reality-based. In which case, we may have a public health crisis on our hands:

Takeaway:
[W]hile it’s always risky to psychoanalyze a politician from afar, a few things in his past are consistent with the capacity for denial. When he was 7, his baby sister died of leukemia. Bush, while certainly not denying her death, tried to cheer up his grieving mother, saying everything would be OK.
Exit question: Isn’t that also “consistent” with being a thoughtful son?

Can I ask in reply does the lefts drive to make the US lose in Iraq mean that they are secretly pro jihadist supporters who are mentally suppressing their religeous veiws by attacking Bush ?
William Amos on May 15, 2007 at 6:43 PM
The question to ask is why do we even bother to discuss this loser “journalistic observations”.
robo on May 15, 2007 at 6:45 PM
Absolutely. It’s also consistent with a boy who believes in an afterlife telling his mother that it’s really sad now, but it’ll be o.k. That’s quite a common answer when dealing with religious folks.
Of course, she probably thinks his religion is also an indication of some psychosis, so, I’m probably not helping his diagnosis here. :)

As I was sitting on my fat butt on the couch the other night, watching the latest news on just how unbelievably unhealthy excess fat is, I sudden realized: I don’t believe anything these people say anymore.
Global warming, transfats, second-hand smoke, Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, 9/11 Truth… the list is endless. Everything is about serving the narrative. Everything.
Good job, Left. I used to listen. Now I just see your mouths moving and hear nothing more than a dull drone.
a4g on May 15, 2007 at 6:48 PM
As a thoughtful son, wouldn’t you start a dead pool to see who came the closest to the death date? I mean, to help the grieving process and everything.
lorien1973 on May 15, 2007 at 6:48 PM
Boy, they bring the concept of projection to a whole hew level, don’t they?
bbz123 on May 15, 2007 at 6:50 PM
Hmmm… telling the entire world our President, and Commander in Chief, is clinicaly crazy during time of war…
Can you say aid and comfort to the enemy?
Romeo13 on May 15, 2007 at 6:51 PM
Gosh, I know I’d like something I said at age 7 to define my adult persona.

Missed one… turns out that High doses of multivitamins actually FEED some types of Cancer (look at the latest prostrate cancer studies)… turns out its more lethal if you take multivitamins…
Color me scared.

Excuse me – another mental case checking in.
I can remember when I was about that age. My grandmother had her leg amputated. I can remember her periods of self pitty. I would say to her “Don’t worry, it will be okay.”
Okay, back to my ward.
BobK on May 15, 2007 at 6:59 PM
I know he is mental. We owned the Rangers.

This “analysis” is typically asinine for the enemedia. What did they expect 7-year-old George to do, declare the family a lost cause and “redeploy” to a foster home?
If that worked, I’d be Steve Austin (the bionic one) right now. Which would be awesome, except for the leisure suits.
ReubenJCogburn on May 15, 2007 at 7:00 PM
Where in the world did they find those pinheads? From the tone of their “report” they must have received their license to practice right out of a Cracker Jack box…

Not when we already know he’s Satan.
Anyone else think the question wording is a little odd?

Man, ‘W’ was one wacked-out seven-year-old.

If only the family had just picked up and moved to Okinawa, George woulda turned out okay.
infidel4life on May 15, 2007 at 7:16 PM
Someone, quick, ask the the “leading lights” if she’s spent any time on HuffPo, Daily Kos, MyDD, DU etc. and tell us what she thinks about the mental state of those sickos!! Especially today… Until she and her ilk do that, I consider her one of the tinfoil hatted leftist loon wackos!
sharinlite on May 15, 2007 at 7:18 PM
Psychoanalyzing these pollsters and media types from afar, I can tell that they:
- are lost
- lost it
- will lose it if they don’t win in 2008
- are irreversibly psychotic

I think that the US Military did an incredible job of Subduing one of the largest deployed military forces in the world and have continued to exemplify themselves day in and day out since then.
Back in the US, Democratic Politicians and the Main Stream Media have conspired to use all of the tools in their power to force a defeat politically where none could have possibly occurred militarily.
We have not lost in Iraq. We did magnificent. The America Hating, Maichael Moore left has disgraced themselves and tarnished the American reputation once again.
When the face of American will is Nancy Pelosi, what country in their right mind would trust us to have a backbone?
Get real.

The retard is on the other side of that Newsweek piece.
Kid from Brooklyn on May 15, 2007 at 7:27 PM
It couldn’t be that Bush is a patriot and even though he is troubled by the war in Iraq, he feels it is incumbent on him as the leader of the free world to keep a stiff upper lip and lead this country to victory in the ideological fight of the century that, if lost as the traitorous dems want, will have catostrophic effects throughout the world.
csdeven on May 15, 2007 at 7:41 PM
I agree, RightWinged. It’s like, “You do think the war is lost, don’t you?”
mikeyboss on May 15, 2007 at 7:48 PM
Anyone see The Rock?
On all sides this war could be solved with a gracious application of the bootay. Islamic fundies wouldn’t have to blowthemselves up to get an orgy in paradise and the leftist basement dwellers would get over their case of BDS.
Just my $.02

B.A. from her bio… no doctorate… Can you say practicing medicine without a license?
Romeo13 on May 15, 2007 at 7:56 PM
Let’s fix that to make it more accurate:
While it’s always risky to psychoanalyze a journalist from afar, a few things in the past are consistent with the capacity for denial. When Newsweek was popular, it’s circulation grew. Leftie editors, while denying their irrelevance and plummeting sales, tried to cheer up their stockowners saying everything would be okay.

Interesting that the possible answers are yes, maybe, and maybe. There isn’t a “no” option.

Yet another yawning example of Liberal Media Psycho-Masturbation.

Are these the same psychiatrists and psychologists who invented post-election-stress disorders to comfort Kerry voters in 2004?
eagles5 on May 15, 2007 at 8:51 PM
In WWII the French gave up when they could have put up a winning fight with the righ leadership. Remember THEY won WWII along with the other allies. They only lost because their leadership SAID they had lost. We’ll win in Iraq (ie. stabilize the country and then leave) only if the Losercrats stay out of the way.
Mojave Mark on May 15, 2007 at 8:51 PM
Yes, it is akward sounding.

I just wish he’d lose it and eradicate Iran’s nuke program in a fugue state.
He can even listen to Bach while doing it if it’ll help.
profitsbeard on May 15, 2007 at 9:30 PM
This question is so badly written that I thought it was a joke that Allahpundit wrote to be funny.
Somehow, though, despite it being an incredibly bad question that was obviously written to try to skew the responses toward the war being unwinnable, the majority of respondents still managed to say that they think we can win the war.
aero on May 15, 2007 at 9:59 PM
What is “mental” is saying that the Iraq War is lost. It isn’t.

A trained and disciplined journalist knows where to draw the line.
fogw on May 15, 2007 at 10:23 PM
This is the biggest pile of steaming dog squeeze I have ever read, considering it comes from a freaking psychiatrist. When a little boy comforts his Mother in the worst of times, I think it shows a sensitive caring son who is mature beyond his years, who has leadership skills and coupled with a degree from Yale would grow up and serve two terms as President of these United States. OH can I write a book now?
sonnyspats1 on May 16, 2007 at 2:04 AM
I would’nt let my cat crap on Newsweek….my cat has much higher standards.

Ummm. No.
Does Bill Clinton’s need to be loved prove he’s mental?
Yes.
