Confirmed: 9/11 Truther(s) to appear on “The View”; Update: PopMech responds to theories

Prison Planet, the media arm of the 9/11 Truth movement, reports:

Confirming our report yesterday, Rosie O’Donnell has validated via her blog that prominent 9/11 truthers are set to appear on The View and educate an audience of around 30 million on the controlled demolition of the twin towers and WTC 7.

We reported weeks ago that 9/11 film makers as well as experts on the controlled demolition hypothesis would feature on the ABC show and those tapings are now imminent.

Host Rosie O’Donnell was asked by a fan on her website, “I would love to see a show with experts on both sides to discuss WTC 7. Silly to always talk about it but never really pursue the truth once and for all, don’t you think? Please?” – to which O’Donnell responded, “the show has been booked.”

Here’s the e-mail mentioned by Prison Planet:

Update: Popular Mechanics responds to Rosie’s latest 9/11 conspiracy theories.

Hey, the looney brigade is going to be exposed for who they really are. This should be fun. I do hope Elizabeth gets her wish and we have the experts from Popular Mechanics on as well.

I expect a lot of guffawing and uncomfortable silence from the crowd. That is unless “Ro” loads the audience with her Truther cronies.

Malpaso on May 15, 2007 at 3:49 PM

I guess Rosie never studied kinetic force.

natesnake on May 15, 2007 at 3:51 PM

I await to see the group of mechanical/civil engineers that the “truther” group brings to the debate.

Hoodlumman on May 15, 2007 at 3:52 PM

If PM isn’t on, what little is left of Walters credibility will be totally flushed.

Iblis on May 15, 2007 at 3:52 PM

The View is not exactly the best forum for discussing fairly technical explanations of building collapses. The “Truthers” will spit out their talking points, and the real experts won’t have time before the next commercial break to give the reasoned response. This will only fan the flames of conspiracy retardation.

-Sigh-

common sensineer on May 15, 2007 at 3:53 PM

You’re not going to get past the wall of crazy with logic and rationality all that easy, I think.

To my remembrance the Popular Mechanics guys already debated Dylan Avery and one of his boys on some show, to no avail.

It might convince some of the more lucid people in the audience of The View, but judging from the applause that follows any of The Rotund Oracle’s Truther outbursts, I don’t think that’s a significant portion of their viewers.

The obligatory RightWinged comment: “Toldja so”… and the mainstreaming of Trutherism rolls on.

RightWinged on May 15, 2007 at 3:57 PM

Didn’t Ro and Joy promise to get a Harvard physicist? I’d bet their truther guest’s CV includes neither Harvard nor physics.

As I said months ago. The rise of trutherism is here.

lorien1973 on May 15, 2007 at 4:02 PM

Is anyone actually a “fan” of rosie? Or are they tuning in to see the daily train wreck? It dosen’t really matter if the PM guys(if they are invited) debunk her theories, the brain-dead mongoloids that are her “fans” won’t be convinced anyway, and sane people already know the truth. I say boycott this show, and tell the sponsers you won’t buy their products as long as ABC or any other network props up this retarded lunatic.

These are people who clapped when Rosie said she drives drunk, clapped when Rosie said she loses it with her own kids and the list goes on. The average IQ of “The View” viewer is about 21 – and I’m being very generous here.

foxforce91 on May 15, 2007 at 4:06 PM

Ugh, again I have to give credit to RW on the Truther thing, I thought it’d never mainstream. I hope they sent Popular Mechanics and Maddox to counter the Truther scum.

Bad Candy on May 15, 2007 at 4:09 PM

unless “Ro” loads the audience with her Truther cronies.

Isnt it “when” not if. Truthers have no jobs, no life. Of -course- they’ll be there in force to watch this thing. I certainly hope they have someone from each side; and I expect that’ll happen, but who knows. Doesn’t even matter though. Trutherism is here and that’s too much.

Morons who can’t grasp simple concepts don’t even deserve a place on a mainstream channel like ABC.

lorien1973 on May 15, 2007 at 4:09 PM

Wow cool. Am I alone in looking forward to this? They better make sure they get someone like the PM guys to represent the facts, I dont want some random person rebutting the truthers.

Blacklake on May 15, 2007 at 4:21 PM

30,000,000 viewers? Kinda high? yup

From Variety.com, December,2006:

Three months in, it’s still very apparent that firing Star Jones and replacing her with Rosie O’Donnell was the right ratings move for ABC’s “The View.”
Daytime strip notched its best-ever November sweeps ratings last month, surging 27% over its year-ago Nielsen numbers. Sweeps period was the first for the show since O’Donnell joined in September.

Overall, “The View” averaged a 1.7 rating in the key demo of women 18-49, making it the No. 4 show in all of daytime.

“The View” also scored record ratings in the total viewer category, attracting an average aud of 3.4 million viewers — up 15% vs. the same frame in 2005.

Truthers, indeed.

I spent time looking at the “experts”, who one 9/11 Truther site listed, as backing their theories. I’m amazed that only about 3 of the 120 “experts” they listed, actually have something to do with engineering, or similar. I found some who were:

Lecturer on Islamic Studies

Professor Emeritus of Natural Resource Policy and Dean Emeritus of the School of Forestry

Professor Emeritus of Philosophy of Religion and Theology

Professor, Justice and Peace Studies

Now, what the guy that heads Forestry can tell me about buildings collapsing, and pass himself off as an expert in the field, is beyond me.

You might be surprised. Did you see Dennis Miller on there? He managed to shut Rosie up, and did it without yelling. I think it just requires the right tone of voice. (Much like with puppies and small children.)

RightWinged on May 15, 2007 at 4:35 PM

I’d say its pretty possible. Since people do not bother to get informed; truthers can come at them and convince them of things simply because the target doesn’t want to appear “ignorant”

And, the problem is, is that 9/11 trutherism is far more malignant than JFK trutherism. JFK doesn’t affect national security, 9/11 does. And its pretty scary.

Why would PM give a rats a$$ what rosie o fat lesbian vampire bat and her brain dead female and sissy-mary audience think? anyone else find it ironic that the bridge that collapse by “fire melting steel” a few weeks ago happened in San Fran? presumably it has one of the highest Truther popluations in the country?

jp on May 15, 2007 at 5:03 PM

The truthers will never give up, and their screeching will drown out anyone The View might bring on to counter their arguments. Check out the comments on Popular Mechanics’ own website on their article responding to Rosie O’Donnell:

991. RE: Rosie O’Donnell 9/11 Conspiracy Comments: Popular Mechanics Responds
Thermite bombs actually do not make noise. Thermite burns, it does not explode. Thermite was used as an “in the field” method of joining/welding railroad ties. You can use thermite to cut steel. The incredibly high temperatures (1300+ F)recorded 5 DAYS after the “attack” would not have been caused by fires. They were caused by the thermite that was used to cut the steel beams. There were explosions going off in the towers. Some of the witnesses lived and have attested to that. The molten steel seen pouring from one of the towers within a minute of the collapse is because thermite was used to destroy steel within the building. The pools of molten steel under the buildings were caused by the thermite that was used. Thermite bombs do not explode…they burn hot enough to melt through steel. Steel buildings do not fall down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermite

And there’s plenty more (990 more!)where that one came from.

Rosie should pick up the NIST’s report on the collapse of the WTC. I just got one last week (they are free).

modnar on May 15, 2007 at 5:17 PM

I go back and forth between thinking that the sane people should just ignore these truther imbeciles, (if you don’t give them any credence maybe they’ll go away). And then I think no, there should be no complacency or mercy when dealing with these people, we should pound them into the ground along with their blantant lies, because it would be far worse to allow the lies to exist and grow and become accepted.

4shoes on May 15, 2007 at 5:47 PM

If you’re wondering what a debate between the Truthers and Popular Mechanics might look like, it will look a lot like this.

It’s a total truth smackdown. I especially enjoy the sputtering indignation of the Cro-Magnon Truther in the center left seat when the truth smacks him in the face, over and over.

Tantor on May 15, 2007 at 5:55 PM

Fox news sent me an email (Im registered to get email from them sure Im not alone) asking me to put a question to the Republican candidates in tonights debate.

My question was to ask them to comment on the turther movement and the lies they spewed after 9/11. I hope it gets asked tonight and later for the democrats.

You have to be kidding. Why would anyone try to convince a non-believer in their own territory. It is not going to happen. Give them their space and they will find out soon enough.

mjkazee on May 15, 2007 at 6:24 PM

The NIST report is pretty technical in many places. I find it hard to debunk truthers with it; since they cannot grasp much simpler concepts.

mojowire on May 15, 2007 at 4:56 PM

This inspired a funny thought: can it be that the great and wondrous Babs Wawah, groundbreaking journalist-with-uterus, hired a pretty plaything (EH) to model fashions for her brainless housewife audience, not knowing that she could hold her own in a political argument? And subsequently had to go 3 on 1 with a couple of bull dikes to keep her from making them all look really stupid every day?

Can they really not outwit Elisabeth Hasselbeck without 3 leftists at the table?!

Maybe they are just a little bitter about the hawtness…

Jaibones on May 15, 2007 at 8:37 PM

It’s time to turn up the heat on BaBa WaWa and ABC through letting their advertisers know we won’t be buying their products anymore…just because Rosie has chosen to leave the powers that be should pay for repeatedly airing this propaganda…by allowing it they support it.

DCJeff on May 16, 2007 at 12:17 AM

I’ve already informed ABC that no matter how good any other show of theirs is, I won’t be tuning in as long as The View remains on the air, and I will be boycotting as many sponsor products as possible.

Falling Panda has a partial sponsor list here, and Freedom Eden a more comprehensive list here.

Just curious if he is referring to the same poll that was discussed a couple of weeks back – the numbers sound similar. But that poll also claimed that 22% of all voters believed Bush knew and had a sample size of only 800. I couldn’t find the poll source in the article.

Are you adding the 26% that “are not sure” to make the majority of democrats conclusion?

Bradky on May 16, 2007 at 4:01 AM

Ian,

Are you sure about the 30 million number for audience size? I checked Nielsen and it seems that viewership is around 3.4 million.

Just curious. 30 million translates to more than 14% of all voters, where 3.4 million makes it a little less than 4%.
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117955333.html?categoryid=14&cs=1

For perspective on conspiracy theorists I found that 80% of all Americans believe there is a coverup on UFO information by the government (http://www.cnn.com/US/9706/15/ufo.poll/)
and six percent believe Elvis is still alive (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,60353,00.html).
That is a lot of people and goes to show how popular conspiracy theories are. Not a bad thing to keep in mind when seeing what the “truthers” believe.

Bradky on May 16, 2007 at 4:10 AM

I’ll bet that Hasselbeck continues to be under informed and cannot hold up her end of the conversation with strength and power, as well as with facts.

I’ll bet that the View holds a one sided “View” featuring 9/11 conspiracy theorists, and no one from the other side, or, if they have anyone, they drown them out, cut them off, or that the “other side” isn’t either really the “other side” or just someone who is no more informed that Hasselbeck is.

Let us see just how honest this “View” presentation will actually be.

Ian,

Bradky on May 16, 2007 at 4:10 AM

Bradky,

You make a strong point!

30 Million people of the 300 million US citizens, equals 1 in 10 US citizens sitting before their television sets and watching “The View.”

Come on!

There are not that many people watching television all at one time, let alone all watching “The View.”

In fact, since many of the 300 million US citizens are children, and others are at work, while others just don’t watch television, or are watching another station rather than ABC’s “The View,” it is a stretch to claim that 30 million people are watching the View.

How many watched the Superbowl?

I doubt 30 million would watch Miss Universe strip naked live on television and have hot, animal sex with Mister Olympia for all the world to see, or that 30 million would tune in to watch a national broadcast in which someone in the US would be drawn at random to win 300 Billion dollars!

30 Million viewers for the View?

And pigs fly (of their own, not via the aid of an aircraft).

William

William2006 on May 16, 2007 at 4:35 AM

Bradky,

To add to my previous comment …

I doubt that 30 million US citizens would tune in to television to the View even to watch Jesus the Christ, Krisna, Buddha, Ba’haula, Vishnu, Brahma, or Guru Nanak speak to the world either!

The View has 30 million viewers?

If they truly claim that, they are truly deranged!

Bradky on May 16, 2007 at 4:43 AM

Hm, I’m not sure where the 30 million comes from either, but Rosie has said on the show numerous times. Maybe they mean out of the week at least 30 million unique people tune in to the show (whether for 1 minute or for the full hour).

Ian on May 16, 2007 at 1:54 PM

Could be but those would be numbers pulled firmly from their ear. I don’t think Nielsen gauges viewership that way. It sounds good for the ones who are her fans, but sets them up for a fall when debating others with facts.
