Just across on Fox. No details yet, but the death wishes should be flowing like wine soon on nutroots blogs. Keep an eye out, and stand by.
Update: He’s at the hospital in Lynchburg, unconscious and, according to one source, being given CPR.
Update: They’re getting warmed up at DU. Here’s a particularly nice image. Meanwhile, the Kossacks debate just how much like Hitler Falwell really is and beg each another not to descend to the level of “the wingers,” death wishes apparently being a hallmark of the right-wing blogosphere in KloudKuckooland.
Update: According to Fox News, the AP is reporting that Falwell has died. I wonder how the candidates will deal with this at the debate tonight.
Update: The Kossack comments are getting nice and hot now. And here’s your quote of the day at DU. They’ve actually closed that thread and opened another one, where they’re already going full steam.
Anyone following HuffPo? I’m heading over now.
Update: Comments appear to be closed.
Update: McClatchy has already posted an impressively detailed obit.
Update: Weasel Zippers is keeping tabs on Think Progress, where they’re drinking the wine straight from the cask.
Update: Ben Smith snarks, “And so this evening’s question is how glowingly John McCain will describe his former antagonist.”
Update: Early condolences from Pat Robertson, Mitt, McCain, and — Al Sharpton.
Update: A little sunshine from one of John Edwards’s favorite bloggers.
Update: Bob Owens is doing a little lefty round-up himself.
Update: This has got to be apocryphal. Doesn’t it?
The reaction from the reporters? Grins and chuckles mostly. One grizzled veteran journalist said, “I hope they (CNN) remember all the horrible things he said.”
Another reporter simply said, “It is a good day.”
Update: No tears at TMZ.
Update: Poor Jerry. All that gay-bashing and he still couldn’t earn Fred Phelps’s respect. Meanwhile, in Frisco’s Castro district, gay activists are planning an “anti-memorial.” Attendees are asked to bring Tinky Winky dolls.

Good riddance! He was a hateful biggot and will not be missed by me. Funny how god gave him heart disease. He works in mysterious ways, eh…

Expressing hate while calling someone hateful.
Nuance.
By the way, what’s a “biggot?”
Slublog on May 15, 2007 at 3:18 PM
Hmph, our liberal trolls can’t help themselves but dance on Falwell’s grave, and here I thought honora would show more class than this. I guess it just takes the right event to show them for what they are.
Bad Candy on May 15, 2007 at 3:20 PM
My guess is it’s not on the eighth grade remedial reading list.
Tennman on May 15, 2007 at 3:21 PM
My quibble with the portrayal of Falwell in “People vs. Larry Flynt” had more to do with behavior and mannerisms than with the bigger narrative.

I think it has something to do with Biblical blood lines.
Jobe biggot Seth,
Seth biggot Henry,
Henry biggot Clovis,
Clovis biggot Eugene,
Eugene biggot Fred, etc.

You guys are losing me. How is “Well at least now his conversations with God can be face to face” any different from what the rest of you are saying? Why is that a bad thing to say?
Tanya on May 15, 2007 at 3:28 PM
Or maybe in 30 minutes they never got a single comment that could clear moderation? By all indications, the American Democrats have already outdone themselves with partisan, anti-Christian hatred (no offense intended to resident conservative atheists).
PS Thanks, Bryan. That comment was beneath the normally tolerable honora.
Jaibones on May 15, 2007 at 3:28 PM
May the Lord have mercy on his miserable soul.
PS: Comments on this event are closed at the huffpo cess pool. I wonder why?
locomotivebreath1901 on May 15, 2007 at 3:29 PM
I respect Mr. Falwell as a fellow believer and that he was much smarter than anyone gave him credit.
On the possible banning of Honora, what she did was not the brightest thing in the world (come on, she’s still a liberal after hanging here for months), but she has added facts and another viewpoint to this site. Maybe you should let her back after a week of Imusesque groveling?
Valiant on May 15, 2007 at 3:30 PM
RIP Rev Falwell. Your life was a demonstration of the proverb: “Woe to you when all men speak well of you.” The reprehensible comments from those that hate you here, to say nothing of the pathologies elsewhere, are a good indication that you struck more than a few of the right nerves.
To all of you spewing bile and hatred, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
spmat on May 15, 2007 at 3:31 PM
As a christian I’ve never been a fan and often resented his role as a self-appointed (or media appointed?) spokesman for me. He’s done more to turn people away from Christ than towards him IMHO.
Still, for his sake, I hope he had a genuine relation ship with Jesus. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Benaiah on May 15, 2007 at 3:33 PM
More fun from the Fark crowd.
And people are already setting up their new wishlists.

In their own clueless rants, the left wing nutroots prove once again just what miserable unhappy wretches they live their lives as.
Their delight over someone’s passing underlines the fact that they must be just walking around simmmering with rage and hate.
Godspeed, Reverend Falwell.
And thanks nutroots, for once again showing your ass. Your miserable lot in life is well deserved. And oh yeah, losers, I’ll have fries with that.
there it is on May 15, 2007 at 3:41 PM
RIP Rev. You will truly be missed.
wytammic on May 15, 2007 at 3:44 PM
I was a huge fan of Rev. Falwells’ after I left Judaism for Christianity.
During the past 11 years I’ve become less fundamentalist and a lot more centrist in my faith-so disagreements did sprout up.
That said, I still believe that Rev. Falwell was a good man, a good Christian, and a gentleman…a mensch.
Because of the work he did in the 70’s I got to come of age during the Reagan years.
I feel very lucky to have experienced that.
Godspeed Rev. Falwell…and Thank You.
annoyinglittletwerp on May 15, 2007 at 3:46 PM
Rev. Falwell was a great man. He leaves behind a wonderful university and the example of his faith inspired courage.

Bad Candy on May 15, 2007 at 3:54 PM
It wasn’t the “face to face” that’s at issue. It’s the nasty little snark that followed. But, from the “honora”ry mayor of trollville, par for the course.
KelliD on May 15, 2007 at 4:00 PM
Libtards are libtards because they have no class and could never have class no matter how they try. Everything in their lives is about avoiding adulthood/maturity/professionalism etc.
foxforce91 on May 15, 2007 at 4:01 PM
Bryan, please don’t ban honora for this comment. She’s inclined to ban herself on others, if she doesn’t control her raw instincts.
It’s good to have a trolls around, especially the thinking type, even if we disagree often. They provide good discussions and prompt thinking on both sides. Respectfully,
Entelechy on May 15, 2007 at 4:05 PM
Spoken like someone who does not know the nature of God.
Aside: I, too, beseech the HA staff not to ban Honora.
baldilocks on May 15, 2007 at 4:10 PM
Falwell has done so many great things for our country in conserving and promoting the traditional values. He has been highly influential.
It will be really sad if he has died.
About Honora, she doesn’t deserve to be banned. There should be open discussions and she helps make the blog interesting.
januarius on May 15, 2007 at 4:12 PM
Agree and agree. Funny how these people think God is so just in “punishing” Tony Snow and Jerry Falwell, but the child molesters of the world get a pass?!
foxforce91 on May 15, 2007 at 4:15 PM
Falwell can easily brush the haters off now. He doesnt care bout what they have to say, he is with his maker enjoying the fruits of his labor.
JVelez on May 15, 2007 at 4:15 PM
The thing is that the lefts think that something horrible has occured to him and rejoice because of it. They have no clue that even though he will be missed, he is better off than all of us in this earth.
JVelez on May 15, 2007 at 4:17 PM
Gotta love em over at digg, +264 and counting.
dingoatemebaby on May 15, 2007 at 4:17 PM
You don’t think God has enough to worry about? I do. You couldn’t pay me enough to take that job.
That was a pretty minor snark, considering she never questioned where he’s going today, or Whose ear he’s bending.
Tanya on May 15, 2007 at 4:19 PM
Bad Candy–is that really necessary? All the vulgarity is linked at the top of the page for those who want to read it. I sure didn’t…
Couldn’t say it better myself. I disagree with a lot of his published remarks in the past few years, but he doesn’t deserve any of the posthumous abuse he’s getting today. I’m sickened.
Radish on May 15, 2007 at 4:20 PM
I never really got into Falwell that much.
Didn’t like him, didn’t hate him, but I respected him.
R.I.P. Rev. Jerry
Sammy316 on May 15, 2007 at 4:27 PM
Actually it’s very easy to see why a lot of the vitriol is flying around. Since this is a thread about his passing I’m not going to derail it with a bunch of quotes from him but, as the saying goes around here, “just google it”.
It’s not hard to see why people would repay hateful remarks with their own.
Benaiah on May 15, 2007 at 4:28 PM
That one wasn’t, Radish. Again, if its too much, the mods can delete it. I picked it out cuz its a huge thread, and it definitely stuck out.
Bad Candy on May 15, 2007 at 4:28 PM
I think it’s more a time and place thing. Wrong time, wrong place. Do I think she should be banned for it, no. But that’s not my decision to make here.
KelliD on May 15, 2007 at 4:29 PM
It is bad enough what the libtards are saying about Jerry Falwell on their blogs. Does it have to be reproduced here too?
R.I.P., Jerry Falwell. All of us will meet our maker one day to receive judgment.
Neocon Peg on May 15, 2007 at 4:35 PM
Honora, who gave her last name as “Hitler” in her comment account (which I just learned today in the process of banning her), isn’t worth you folks asking that she be reinstated. She’s a threadjacking troll who exists to steer posts critical of Dems in directions that are more to her liking. But if she asks nicely I’ll let her back in. Let’s see if she’s capable of seeing why that particular comment of hers was over the line. Or if she even cares.
Bryan on May 15, 2007 at 4:37 PM
You too will die someday. Will that also be punishment from God?
Grow up and let the man rest in peace!
I think your’re on the wrong blog!
LonelyMassRepublican on May 15, 2007 at 4:38 PM
I agree with Bryan, keep ‘er banned. Between this, the threadjacks and the Hitler thing…
Didja remove Shackler too?
Bad Candy on May 15, 2007 at 4:46 PM
Bryan, it is your call. Personally, I hope she doesn’t take you up on your offer to reinstate her.
Neocon Peg on May 15, 2007 at 4:47 PM
Maybe she was telling the truth? Just shows our measure of compassion that we would even want her back after a mistake.
Valiant on May 15, 2007 at 4:56 PM
Any relation to Neocon Jen?
Valiant on May 15, 2007 at 4:58 PM
Not that I know of! When I tried to register as just plain “Neocon” Bryan or Allah told me it wasn’t available and just gave me the name! Besides, doesn’t she comment as “Jen the Neocon?”
Neocon Peg on May 15, 2007 at 5:00 PM
Yes. Glad to have you!

Thank you, Bryan! Just saw this after I posted my prior comments. Under no circumstances should this troll be allowed to return here. Like I said in my other post, others have been banned for less. She should not return, ever.

They’re fighting amongst themselves over at DU now. Some (a minority, it would seem) are embarrassed by the gleeful dancing on Falwell’s grave. They’re being shouted down by the haters, though.

This is how you behave when a bitter political opponent dies. Kudos to the virulently anti-Falwell site falwell.com.

Thanks, Bryan, for policing the trolls.

Ban her and keep her banned. Intelligent debate is welcome. An errant ignoramus is not.
Andy in Agoura Hills on May 15, 2007 at 5:25 PM
I thought we conservatives were supposed to shun moral relativism? Honora crossed the line and no amount of her “rational” as a moonbat can make up for that. I fully support Byran banning her tactless, classless a$$ from HA forever. Believe me, another one just like her will sprout up before too long.
csdeven on May 15, 2007 at 5:32 PM
You can tell the caliber of a man by the nature of his enemies.
Rose on May 15, 2007 at 5:41 PM
Not quite seeing what the request not to ban h. has to do with moral relativism. We were (or at least I was) simply asking the HA staff to cut her a break, i.e. to have mercy on her. (Personally, I didn’t think that the particular comment in question was so bad, but I think many nay-sayers were reacting to her body of comments.)
With Bryan’s revelation, however, I have changed my mind.
baldilocks on May 15, 2007 at 5:44 PM
I was gonna stay neutral till the Hitler revelation too, baldi.
Bad Candy on May 15, 2007 at 5:47 PM
Enough about her. Even when she’s banned she still ends up diverting the thread’s attention.
Mullah Dadullah of the Taliban was killed a few days ago. By means of comparison, what did the Left have to say about that? At a casual glance it would appear Falwell’s death is getting more attention and venom from the Left than Dadullah’s. (In fact, you-know-who didn’t even post in the Dadullah thread)
Oh well. I’m sure Rosie will have something nice to say about Falwell….
My condolences to his surviving family members and loved ones. This is a difficult day for them.
Dave Shay on May 15, 2007 at 5:53 PM
Fair enough.
Dave Shay,
You’re right. They are actually voicing preference for Saddam over Falwell on DU as we speak.
csdeven on May 15, 2007 at 6:06 PM
Disagreement’s one thing.
Honora’s clearly crossed the line however.
Please bring in the welcome mat.
annoyinglittletwerp on May 15, 2007 at 6:35 PM
Add me to the list of people who didn’t always agree with the Rev. Falwell but respected him nonetheless. My condolences to his family and friends on his passing.
As for the nutroots and their venom, I’m disgusted but utterly unsurprised. The only people truly deserving of that kind of malice–monsters like Saddam, for instance–are some of the last people that would receive criticism from them. What barren and empty places their hearts and souls must be.
ReubenJCogburn on May 15, 2007 at 6:42 PM
Well, to keep in the theme, honora’s real name may have been “legion” for there were many voices of honora.
It would be fair enough to dump a gaggle of what appeared to be Democrat Party seminar callers, rather than one genuinely earnest poster.
naliaka on May 15, 2007 at 6:42 PM
Falwell may have said a lot of dumb things, but, as a religious leader, he was still deserving of at least a modicum of respect.
Sleep well, Reverend. You’re in God’s care now.

Rev. Dr. Jerry Falwell was an important force in American politics and especially in fighting Islamofascism and supporting Israel. He will be missed. Rest in Peace.
Debbie Schlussel on May 15, 2007 at 7:19 PM
The only time I was happy that someone was dead was when Zarqawi bit the dust. A year and a half later I discovered he was setting up an al-Qaeda cell 5 miles from my house. I never really liked Jerry Falwell but I say rest in peace. The man deserves his dignity.
aengus on May 15, 2007 at 7:22 PM
i’m not surptised by the level of hate. i’ve seen it before; when president reagan died, when tony snow discovered a tumor, etc.
basicly, if a progressive disagrees with you, he hates you. there is no middle ground where respectful pluralistic dialogue can occur in good faith. progressives recognize no larger spheres of shared experience like nationhood or famiy or thing on that order. either you agree with them, or they hate you in the most deep and obcene terms imaginable.
and with a high level of concienciious articulation. note that many justify this corpse desecration in passing by giving the wiife-beater’s excuse: essentially saying, “i hate him because he caused me to hate him.”
keep at least that in mind. when progressives say that fallwell “caused sooo much hate in the world” they’re referring to their hatred of falwell and christians. falwell and christians, in their mind, could have avoided being the target of their hatred by simply not existing in the first place.

Okay here’s what I have to say:
I can’t think of anything good to say about Falwell so I won’t say anything. Some liberals don’t have that much self-control; I guess they suck more than me.
But I have a question for his fans, do you believe in his alterno-truther theory that God ordered 9/11 because the feminists and gays were pissing him off? did you sign up for his crusade against the Teletubbies?
I mean most of you seem serious enough to know Falwell can’t really be taken, well, seriously…

Dont know if Im more sorry about Jerry, who is beyond our judgement,or more sorry for many of the posters here. Some of you folks—should be worried about your ownselves, never mind your obsessions about Christians, which seem to consume you.
lizzee on May 15, 2007 at 8:37 PM
As a Christian, but not a ‘fan’ I was embarrased by the outlandish things he said. He did not speak for me on those issues. Still, I have no doubt that he was a man of God. And I see no contradiction between those two statements.
infidel4life on May 15, 2007 at 8:42 PM
Since when has the MSM presented ANYTHING accurately from anyone they don’t like? They loved the teletubbies ’cause they could spin it stupid, and they did, with great delight.
God did not order 9/11. It was of a viciousness and evil that is the mark of the Devil himself.
Course for the unserious, that conjures up images of red stockings and pitchforks, which as C.S. Lewis said in “The Screwtape Letters,” the Devil encourages that silly perception because it leads people into poo-pooing his existence.
naliaka on May 15, 2007 at 8:42 PM
Save your ‘feeling sorry’ for yourself. With that attitude, you’re gonna need it.
infidel4life on May 15, 2007 at 8:50 PM
Falwell brought out Christians who had stayed away from politics during the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. The old “this world is not my home” kept many Christians from getting in the political arena. Thus the 30-40 years of Democrat rule. Falwell changed all of this and we should be thankful for his contributions. I know I am.
Neocon Peg on May 15, 2007 at 9:03 PM
Regardless of whether Falwell was right or wrong, I think we can all admit that Teletubbies was gayer than “Queer Eye” and “Will and Grace” put together.

shooter on May 15, 2007 at 9:17 PM
Listening to stupidity never strengthens you.
Jaher22, just because (and you will have a hard time understanding this) you disagree with someone, you don’t wish him death.
There was a time, before you “progressive liberals” came to town, that you could disagree but still be civil to each other. You could debate, then relax and enjoy each others company. The progressives have thrown down the challenge, agree with us or die. We conservatives do not accept that, and fight back. Jerry did not speak for me, but he was a man of God. I believe him misguided in many ways, but still had the interest of the country at heart. It is a shame that your people feel that his death was due, that his death somehow makes it right.
I really feel sorry for you (and other liberals) as you walk through life with such anger and hatred…But not so sorry that I catipulate any of my rights, or bow to your (genric liberals) anger and threats.

Bryan, I need to apologize for a comment I made a couple of weeks ago, shortly after PinkyBigglesWorth was banned. I implied that someone at HotAir may have acted unfairly in that regard and I regret that comment and I apologize. I have no idea what happened and I should have never made such a comment. I am sincerely sorry for that.
Maybe Pinky said something way over the line, I don’t know. With that being said, you’ve stated that honora might be forgiven and allowed back, and I think that’s good when the offence is not too grievous and I don’t think hers’ was. Forgiveness is something you would never expect or receive from the leftist, and it would be good if HotAir was different in that respect when circumstances allow it.
And my question is, is there any possibility that Pinky could be forgiven for what he did ? Thanks HotAir for your consideration, I will not mention this again.
