What to expect tonight:
Blogs for Bauer has a kill counter contest going on.
Lorie wonders who’s the real father of Josh Bauer and asks:
Do you think people watch Jack Bauer because they wish those in out counter-terrorism services were allowed to do the things he does, or do you think they watch because they don’t want those in our real life government doing the things Jack does, but it is fun to fantasize about doing such things to terrorists without getting out hands dirty in real life?

Everybody’s on time this week. I like that because it saves me from having to fake a live thread :-)
As for Lorie’s question, it’s the former.

It’s the same thing when hollywood writes shows about educators. (I’m a teacher.) We real teachers would be pilloried by the libs if we did the things that the teachers do in the movies made by the very same libs. The libs go ape-caca when a soldier or marine looks sideways as a terrorist.
Open thread: I bought my first handgun, a Baretta 92 9mm this weekend. O Happy Day. I’ve been out of the Army for 9 years so it’ll be nice to get back to the range.
Mojave Mark on May 14, 2007 at 9:07 PM
Ricky – Did you leave anything for us?
Jack – Just bodies and a tunnel.
steveegg on May 14, 2007 at 9:08 PM
Outstanding Mark! Welcome to original Militia of America. ;) Don’t know what state you live in but your next step might be to get your Concealed Carry Permit.
I prefer my Glock 21 (45acp) but the 9s are certainly fun to shoot. ;)

Berretta 92 9mm, nice gun Mark..

I know commercials are local/regional things but I just saw a VERY effective car commercial for Saturn preaching the virtues of their Hybrids. Nice job Saturn.

What! They just leave Milo lying on the floor?! No shrieks. No crying. Just “you did good.”

So…how many times does this make in this series where a woman is sent in on a double secret mission and proceeds to either kill or dramatically alter the subject of the mission.

At least 3, Pilgrim.

Steveeg-
There have been two this season alone(Whacky First lady, nympho VP assistant). I think there was another in Season 3(shy girl stabs serbian dude). And didn’t First Lady Palmer screw up something with that hacker dude in season 3? geesh..they all start to run together.

It’s been a few years, but somebody at Blogs4Bauer thinks there was something in season 1 along those lines as well.

I wonder if Major Cassidy will have the stones to order Two-One Zebra (just to confuse the personalities some more).

Taking bets now as to whether Ricky Stratto…er, Mike Doyl…ah, taheckwitchit, Ricky Stratton survives the next 2 hours. Over/under on Ricky’s death – 5:42 am PDT.
steveegg on May 14, 2007 at 9:58 PM
I hate these producers…the last two shows have been as good as any of the other seasons. Excellent cliff hangers.
Question now is, did they remove Josh from the equation in so he isn’t anywhere near Jack? Then send Jack in to get his Dad using Josh as collateral against both of them? Sort of a winner take all thing?
Pilgrim on May 14, 2007 at 9:58 PM
Was that Chloe????
jatfla on May 14, 2007 at 9:59 PM
Steveeg-
I don’t think Ricky is gonna die. At this point I’m wondering if Jack is gonna survive. There’s only so many of these things he can survive. Even for Hollyweird he’s pushing the limits.

This season can’t end soon enough. What a disappointment! :(
danarchy on May 14, 2007 at 10:32 PM
Boring..again..repetitive, LOTS of “filler”…not much “there” there…the repeat assault on CTU in 2 Seasons shows a lack of good writing, the endless streams of Jack’s Dad..I mean..HOW did he get the cellphone number to access the Pres? Puhhhhhlllllleaaaaaaasssssssseeeeeeeeee..I have LOVED 24 until this year..and this year frankly reaks

Come to think about it, maybe VP Powers Booth is secretly paying back the Chinese for their participation in WW3 against the Soviets and Central America, back in “Red Dawn”.
WOLVERINES!

Paris? Tent City, baby. I’m going to take the boys for a tour when she is here. Better than the Phoenix Zoo…
“Look, son – the wild American Skank – watch your wallet”
Timothy S. Carlson on May 14, 2007 at 11:05 PM
I have been a die-hard 24 fan for years, but a few weeks ago, after falling behind with 3 or 4 episodes unwatched on the DVR (unthinkable even last season, which wasn’t really great) I finally turned off the automatic recording for 24.
There was absolutely nothing original in this season, and the writing had become so stunningly moronic that I was having to force myself to watch it. I think the “jump the shark” moment, for me, was when Jack was trying to fly the UAV away from LA and it refused to respond to his 30 seconds of inputs at the controls until, at the last possible second, it veered away from LA… good grief. Then, to make it worse, it “starts to go into a stall” so Jack tells Chloe that he has to land it ASAP… despite the fact that to recover from a stall Jack just needed to give it a bit of throttle and nose-down and despite the fact that he wouldn’t be able to land it if it were, in fact, in an “unrecoverable” stall.
Simply put, they are making up complete crap that a 3rd grader could see through to serve as stupid little plot devices. After I quit watching it I was told that the President of the United States authorized a dude to carry nuclear secrets to the Chinese (with the intent to destroy them and himself) in a clever ploy to rescue his girlfriend.
I can’t believe that anyone still watches this train wreck.
DaveS on May 14, 2007 at 11:43 PM
Once again, while you folks slogged through yet another agonizing hour of “24,” “Heroes” was absolutely delightful! I really wish I knew of some way to save you.
Actually, there are maybe a few whiffs of some lefty politics creeping up now that “Heroes” is getting close to the end, but if so they’re pretty subtle. And the situation is so far removed from anything resembling reality that it’s hard to view any of it as anything more than a wild “what if” scenario, not a real effort at political allegory.
Oh, and here’s an interesting observation: Rena Sofer plays supporting characters in both “24″ and “Heroes”–which, of course, are on opposite one another. I wonder how many times that’s happened before?
Blacklake on May 15, 2007 at 12:05 AM
I thought that tonight’s episode was one of the better, (maybe the best) this season.
Nearly everyone (except ‘Ching Chong’ Chiang) showed more gumballs tonight than usual. (even the scumbag Grandpa Bauer has some guts.)
A little surprised that Jack got Nadia to help him take down the bad guys instead of Chloe…. (Maybe a plot device to get us to change our minds about her?))
If Morris is going to stick around with CTU, they really need to send him through at least an abbreviated Q course or out to ‘The Farm’ for a few weeks. I mean, YAY, he jumped the bad guy, but he really needs to be able to take someone down, fast, if he is going to continue to play the game.
LegendHasIt on May 15, 2007 at 4:33 AM
Fire all the writers quickly and get some sort of common sense working or it’s down the tubes with this loser.
I’ve asked myself constantly over the last dozen episodes, “Why am I still watching this crap?”
gunter on May 15, 2007 at 10:11 AM
An American town is nuked and the President is pretty much blown up and it’s all down to Jack’s dad?
I can only wonder how good the show might have been if CAIR hadn’t gotten to the show’s producers and made them back off IslamoNazis…
Once again, another season of “24″ that promised to be great at the beginning fizzles out.
Check out Showtime’s “Sleeper Cell” for a much better show on Islamist terrorism that doesn’t get silly.
Jen the Neocon on May 15, 2007 at 12:28 PM
So, how does “Division” get wind of the break-in, and get a new team over there 5 minutes after the dust settles? And how can they pin the old “breach of security protocols” on Nadia? She wasn’t in charge for more than 2 hours, for crying out loud. That would be like blaming Bush for 9/11 after being President for just a few months. Oh yeah.
But yeah, this season’s pretty much of a snoozer.
BigOrangeAxe on May 15, 2007 at 1:29 PM
‘Division’ was already on the way to replace Buchannan who was fired an hour or three earlier.” Nadia was only put temporarily in charge until the ‘division’ people showed up.
And as far as Nadia getting the blame: The Division pukes are bureaucrats, and as such, will put the blame on the most convenient person rather than where it really belongs.
