John Edwards observes no taboos. Under the heading “10 Things You Can Do Over Memorial Weekend to Support the Troops and End the War”:
Get vocal. Buy a bunch of poster-board and markers. At a picnic or with family and friends, make signs that say “SUPPORT THE TROOPS – END THE WAR.” Bring them to your local Memorial Day parade. Then take a digital photo of yourself and your family or friends holding up the poster and tell us about it. We’ll include it in a “Democracy Photo Album” on our site. (emphasis added)
Memorial Day used to be about remembering the sacrifices of wars past. Now it’s about politicizing parades.

Shameless! Turning every possible event into an opportunity to either bash the president or score some kind of political points.

Oh breck Girl, you are such a card…
JG2K6 on May 13, 2007 at 10:16 PM
When you’re a distant third in a three man race (Hillary insult intended), you do what you have to do, in this case you dance with the girl what brung you — the MoveOn Leftards.
Jaibones on May 13, 2007 at 10:25 PM
These lefties are so deluded they think hating George Bush is patriotic.
infidel4life on May 13, 2007 at 10:28 PM
Number 11.
Send Silky Pony a Get Well Card.
This sucker is sick, sick, sick…
News2Use on May 13, 2007 at 10:29 PM
At least that website used the correct color, YELLOW.
He must be sucking up to Soros…
Zorro on May 13, 2007 at 10:29 PM
Take a picture…for our Democracy Photo album.
Because, really, those silly Memorial Day parades should be all about you, and you speaking truth to power, and all that.
sickening.
Because we all need to teach our children that the bad men will stop shooting us just as soon as we “end the war.” We do get to say when it’s over, don’t we?
TexasDan on May 13, 2007 at 10:30 PM
Thanks for posting this Bryan.
I am so p*ssed off right now. Edwards is a waste of human flesh.
BobK on May 13, 2007 at 10:31 PM
That’s so incredibly inappropriate.
CP on May 13, 2007 at 10:38 PM
What better way to remember the sacrifices of our troops than to incessantly condescend towards them? :P
ZK on May 13, 2007 at 10:40 PM
That the trouble with Silky Ponies.
Ya hafta’ deal with all the Silky Pony droppings.
CyberCipher on May 13, 2007 at 10:51 PM
As a veteran I love Memorial Day parades. However, if one of these leftards approaches me with one of their signs at our local parade that person is going to receive a response that they will not like.
dawgyear on May 13, 2007 at 10:53 PM
As always I feel it’s my duty to point out what a douche Edwards is, after spending his 04 primary run being the pro-war Democrat:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3131295/
Former intelligence committee member Edwards was NOT MISLED, SUPPORTED THE WAR AND SAID WE COULDN’T BE HELD HOSTAGE BY THE SECURITY COUNCIL, SAW THE EVIDENCE NOT JUST FROM THE WHITE HOUSE, SAW A DIRECT THREAT, etc. etc.
There’s no way to “flip flop” on what he said even though he’s tried. Those comments don’t even give an option for “changing his mind”. He was very clear even when many Dems (who used to talk like that too) had turned on Bush.
If you support Edwards, you’re either an idiot, lazy, or a liar. An idiot if you can’t see that he’s just pandering to the far left because he sees that as his best chance for the nomination, lazy if you simply don’t realize who this guy was a couple years ago, or a liar if you sing his praises as being the big anti-war guy he campaigns as now.
RightWinged on May 13, 2007 at 10:54 PM
Heaven help the leftist traitor-f*cker who waves such a sign in my face. Harsh words WILL be spoken, expectorant may be deposited on their faces, and it is possible that they may receive broken bones. So I advise any leftist retard thinking of this in my community to THINK AGAIN!

Silky Pony, Nonfactor, and JaHerer22,
Tactless, classless, a$$holes.
csdeven on May 13, 2007 at 11:27 PM
And this stuff plays in Iowa…which is why this fur ball is leading there? Say it ain’t so.

You are not supporting the troops by calling for the end of the war. The troops engage in the mission You are seeking to make their sacrifices in vain, which is to say you are against the troops.
Phil Byler on May 13, 2007 at 11:46 PM
Now why would any media talk about boring facts like the ones you present, when they can talk about more important things like $400 haircuts. Now that’s News!
abinitioadinfinitum on May 14, 2007 at 12:14 AM
HOLDING SIGNS AROUND WAR VETERANS TELLING AMERICAN SOLDIERS TO BE COWARDS AND RUN WILL GO OVER REAL WELL. I’D IKE TO SPIT SOME BEECHNUT IN SILKY’S EYE!
Drtuddle on May 14, 2007 at 12:25 AM
Victory Caucus and some other blogs were mentioning this last night. Many have already sent Edwards our thoughts on this disrespect of Memorial Day. His contact through his campaign is
I sent him the following,

Don’t know why the link didn’t show up, but it is,

LewWaters on May 14, 2007 at 12:28 AM
I no longer wonder why he gets all the Truthers at his rallies.
Kini on May 14, 2007 at 12:33 AM
Lew Waters, what a great letter you wrote. I just sent the link to a well-connected group of people, many former/current military, to propagate this and to also write letters to this insufferable prima donna.

Entelechy on May 14, 2007 at 12:52 AM
I hope this keeps spreading, especially to Veterans Groups. We need to let him know that such a sacred day isn’t for his cheap political stunts.
LewWaters on May 14, 2007 at 1:08 AM
Every time you think these sleazebags can’t sink any lower, they start digging. Right, exploit Memorial Day for cheap political points with the nutroots and piss on every sacrifice our servicemembers ever made. Well, that is consistent with the way liberals “support” the troops, but it’s just one more example of why Edwards is manifestly unfit to hold the office of Commander-in-Chief.
ReubenJCogburn on May 14, 2007 at 1:45 AM
Next thing you know, they’ll be showing up to protest at funerals. oh wait.
maggie katzen on May 14, 2007 at 1:51 AM
You know, that’s perfect for Memorial Day. If he gets his way, the photo album can become a memorial to the Democracy he let die in Iraq.
MayBee on May 14, 2007 at 2:04 AM
I’ve figured it out now–apparently there are two Americas, one where Memorial Day is “a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service,” and one where it’s just an excuse to pander to demented left-wing America-haters.
ReubenJCogburn on May 14, 2007 at 2:26 AM
Great idea Pony! My sign will say “God Bless the Troops” though. Hope you don’t mind.
BacaDog on May 14, 2007 at 6:58 AM
Sorry Lew, I’m not giving that SOB Edwards my email addy. I’ll call later.
csdeven on May 14, 2007 at 7:14 AM
Disgusting. I will never understand the idiot phrase, “support the troops. end the war” It’s an oxymoron. It’s like saying to Edwards and his kind, ’support the lawyers. Stop litigation.
4shoes on May 14, 2007 at 9:44 AM
Are the Republicans tallying all of this up? Someone needs to form a 527 that points all of this out!
Of course you would never understand that – and neither would I. We know people who gladly serve their country and would give their life for it. They don’t. That’s why they don’t get it.
foxforce91 on May 14, 2007 at 10:06 AM
I don’t remember defending Edwards or encouraging anti-war protests on Memorial Day. In fact, I have said repeatedly I’m not an Edwards fan and don’t plan on voting for him.
I have no problem with you attacking me or calling me an asshole, that’s to be expected; I would just prefer you do it in reference to things I have actually said or have voiced my support for instead of just including me in your delusional blanket-liberal criticism.
JaHerer22 on May 14, 2007 at 10:08 AM
Bring It On!
I will put aside the bail money now.
LakeRuins on May 14, 2007 at 10:12 AM
It’s just sad that we conservatives have jobs and families to tend to so we can’t give these a-holes the smack-down at their own protests. I’m sick of their public tantrum throwing. They need to be spanked like the children they are. But I guess someone needs to work to support their lazy asses. After all, “work” is a 4-letter word to them – along with “shower”.
foxforce91 on May 14, 2007 at 10:48 AM
Where’s Ann Coulter when you need her? I need her to say what’s on my mind, so I won’t get banned.
Gregor on May 14, 2007 at 11:26 AM
Lew, great letter and thank you for all you’ve had to endure. I sent a note myself but nothing quite as eloquent as yours. I gave my email that I never use. It should signal to them of my feelings about their support:antiwarprotestorssuckbigtime@ .com. I expect not to hear from them.
Catie96706 on May 14, 2007 at 12:25 PM
Irrespective of this topic, you are a classless, tactless a$$hole and belong in the same group with nonfactor and other classless, tactless a$$holes like Silky Pony.
csdeven on May 14, 2007 at 1:18 PM
I sent them an email to the link Lew provided.
Also, just for fun, I registered with them so I could put my own “little grassroots” event on the website (it has to do with my plans to verbally abuse any idiots who show up with signs at the event at the national cemetery in my neighborhood). We’ll see how long it takes for it to be removed from the site.
juliesa on May 14, 2007 at 2:22 PM
I think Liberal Larry Chomstein should have events any time these jokers do – just to see how many of them would take him seriously. I’ve suggested this to him, in fact, via email.
foxforce91 on May 14, 2007 at 4:01 PM
No, it does NOT play in Iowa, at least not on this side of the state.
Memorial Day is the day to honor our dead.
Politicizing this day is like protesting a funeral and makes Mr Edwards and those who follow his directive this Memorial Day, no better than Phelps and his offspring.
I’m beyond disgusted, and when the Edwards bus tour stops in our town, this WILL be a topic.
