Video: Imus producer slams “Rev.” Al Sharpton in debate on H&C

Former Imus producer Bernard McGuirk and the Reverend Al Sharpton debated the Imus controversy for a full hour on “Hannity & Colmes” last night. McGuirk had the chance to tell Sharpton he’s a “crude, humorless, opportunist” and a “race-baiter.” Burn.

Here’s hoping they post the whole debate online.

Transcript:

BERNARD MCGUIRK: This is how they view you, with all due respect: as a crude, humorless opportunist, a race-baiter who is jealous of, say, Barack Obama and Harold Ford Jr.’s success, who has been rendered irrelevant, you and Jesse Jackson, by those people like that and this was an opportunity for you to get your face back — to make yourself relevant again.

I missed this show last night, hopefully someone would post a link for the full debate

I watched the whole series on FOX. Sharpton must be a damned good liar, because having taken the video at face value I tend to believe AL. I’m hoping the Rev.Sharpton realizes that truth is a two edeged sword and cuts both ways. He needs to focus on the rap community instead of partying with them.

sonnyspats1 on May 12, 2007 at 2:12 PM

Yeah he zinged him good. The good reverend was shocked I think since he started stumbling over his words after that. The truth has been known to have that effect. It was good drama that’s for sure!

Watch the whole thing. I was amazed at Sharpton’s ability to change the subject, distract from the truth and bring out the absolute craziest analogies…that almost work. Overall he disgusted me thoroughly.
He has the tongue of the devil, that is why he seems to stay afloat.

shooter on May 12, 2007 at 2:18 PM

Has the Reverend seen the light and repented of his evil ways? Just sayin, a little rightousness could do a lot of good uniting the country right now. The hate quotient is running high!

sonnyspats1 on May 12, 2007 at 2:21 PM

What’s going on? Whitey isn’t supposed to challenge the great Sharpton. We’re supposed to bow and scrape to his absolute moral authority.

So true. This clown kept answering questions with questions. Notice how he tried to immediately claim himself a victim within the first 15 seconds? Bernard was simply repeating what many were already saying and he turned it into a personal assault.

If I was Bernard I would have closed with one simple statement: “The future has no place for you, Rev. Al.”

Shooter on May 12, 2007 at 2:18 PM

You hit the nail on the head Shooter. He is a thoroughly digusting individual. He is also good at turning away from a question and going off on a tangent about something else.

I love Bernie and his kind of humor but I must say I don’t think he should have been trying to bat it back and forth with Sharpton. That was my feeling before and after the program. Bernie got some good shots in but Sharpton dominated the debate (if that is what it was). Hannity let him go on and on and Bernie didn’t have much of a chance to say anything. That is the old liberal trick – keep talking through the entire program so the other side has no time for his/her response. I’m suprised that Hannity would let him get away with it.

OBX Pete on May 12, 2007 at 2:38 PM

Hannity is what keeps Al Sharpton relevant. He has him on his tv and radio shows whenever he can. I can’t stand to watch Hannity & Colmes or listen to Hannity on the radio. He has liberal after liberal on and they just talk all over him.

Neocon Peg on May 12, 2007 at 3:11 PM

Even on Fox bias allowed Sharpton to talk over everyone in the room.

I constantly got the idea that Hannity and Colmes even though it was obvious that both of them thought Sharpton is a race baiting loud mouth opportunist, they both let him exploit the loud mouth part of his persona.

He evaded his guilt by blaming Hannity, Colmes and McGuirk with name calling when he deserved and should have apologized for every accurate portrayal of Sharptons’ character.

Sharpton is guilty many times over of everything that was thrown at him but he just abused his status and expected that he be allowed too.

Sharpton was anything but contrite and everything that was arrogant.

If you aren’t strong enough to man up and admit wrong doing (Imus did) then expect some name calling.

Speakup on May 12, 2007 at 3:15 PM

Face!

Drtuddle on May 12, 2007 at 3:31 PM

Hannity is what keeps Al Sharpton relevant.

Exposure is good for the soul and Sharpton and others need the light of day shined on them.

Hannity can vote but once but his audience is many more votes; the more bad actors see the light the more gets done about them and the more pressure the bad actors get for change.

Speakup on May 12, 2007 at 3:38 PM

…the more pressure the bad actors get for change.

I don’t want him to change.

Everytime Sharpton opens his mouth there’s the possibility a vote will change to our side. Hell, at the next debate I’d love to see him run up to Hilary, give her a big hug and start rapping “she’s our girl”!

BacaDog on May 12, 2007 at 3:50 PM

Sharpton may go after O&A next. I look forward to reading the various reactions, because I love cognitive dissonance.

Jim Treacher on May 12, 2007 at 4:08 PM

As “Kelso” would say….”BURN!”
I’m glad someone told this punk how the cow eats the cabbage.

SuperManGreenLantern on May 12, 2007 at 4:22 PM

I wonder if Bill O’Reilly will have a special body language segment about this next week? Jeez, just look at how McGuirk’s and Sharpton’s bodies are leaning heavily away from each other in an “I detest you!” way!

kevcad on May 12, 2007 at 4:44 PM

Don’t need body language. Sharpton is a lying, racist, media whore.

SouthernGent on May 12, 2007 at 5:08 PM

I think Bernie pretty much summed it up.

Viper1 on May 12, 2007 at 5:24 PM

I am glad Hannity has some of these libs on. Thats the only dose of lib crap I’ll take, becuase I sure don;t go to the channels where they feed. I prefer the controlled environment.

I hope IMUS sues and I hope he sues big. He’s gonna win because his Constitutional rights have been squashed. If the rappers can mouth off, why can’t IMUS? This little screw up is gonna pay off for the other side for once.

johnnyU on May 12, 2007 at 6:30 PM

After that, anyone who had any doubt that Sharpton is a lying race-baiting racist, has no reason to doubt it now.

csdeven on May 12, 2007 at 7:28 PM

He’s gonna win because his Constitutional rights have been squashed.

From what I hear Imus may have a good civil case based on some specifics of his contract, not that I like him, or care, and clearly Sharpton is a hypocrite, and all that other stuff. But how do you reckon Imus’s Constitutional rights were squashed? That document limits the power of the government, not of individuals, advertisers, or radio stations. The man was fired, not arrested.

Blacklake on May 12, 2007 at 8:03 PM

Why is the title: “Video: Imus producer slams “Rev.” Al Sharpton in debate on H&C”

Why not “Rev.” (love the sarcastic quotes) slams Imus producer? Just saying prejudice a bit? Yea sharpton is a hypocrite race bating jerk, but than Imus is a racist misogynistic jerk. Tie?

Disinterestedly I watched most of it. The skin head thinks it was the “Rev.” that got them fired and the “Rev.” thinks they got them self fired.

Personally, the “Rev.” was irrelevant in this case. It was the trifecta of screw up on the part of Imus and the producer, who actually said ‘ho’ first in reference to kids.

Is Imus a racist and misogynistic jerk? Yea of course he is, when it comes down to it, but that was not why he got fired or should have been fired. It’s a fact the TV and radio management came out with a suspension. That was their decision. The “people” spoke thru the sponsors. May the “Rev.” got it more notoriety, but so what. FREE MARKET BABY. Be a capitalist. Breaking News: Let it be known old white men can’t call young black college female athletes, you know what and the N-word. NEWS FLASH OVER.

It was the public outrage and the sponsors that who the choice, well past Sharpton’s sidewalk protest. MSNBC and ABC radio made a business decision. No sponsors no show. Get mad at GM, American Express, Proctor and Gamble and Staples, to name a few.

Al Roker, nbc, the most benign non threatening black man in the universe was pissed; KIDS and Ho’s don’t mix (especially from a white man, deal with it). It was way past Sharpton and Imus and skin head producer, it was the people.

It does not matter what Sharpton’s past was, what Imus’ past was, who protested what and who, what good works Imus did, plublicity sharpton got or his motive, what rappers say or that Imus is a ’shock jock’, it DOES NOT MATTER. I love the producer saying that sharpton has denied the public the joy of his show, ha ha ha ha, ego may be?

We’ll live and survive. Imus will get a XM/Sirius gig and no doubt take skin head with him. Like Stern he will have a fraction of the audience, but unlike Stern, he will make less money and his guest list will no longer include the rich, powerful and highest political figures in government. Stern has strippers so he can get guest. Personally I don’t blame Sharpton and I don’t think Imus should have been fired, but Imus made millions and is suing. Good luck with that crypt keeper.

gmcjetpilot on May 12, 2007 at 9:10 PM

I don’t want him to change.

Oh I don’t expect the good Rev. to change, much.

It’s the mounting public pressure to change the culture of hate, bias and double standards that’s very cool.

This is another instance when we should be asking, where are the screaming feminists?

Is feminist hate for “Conservative” morals so rabid that it makes the demeaning of women acceptable?

Speakup on May 12, 2007 at 9:24 PM

I noticed the same as Speakup: Sharpton avoided answering anything having to do with his previous actions by dubbing it “name calling”. Frustrating to watch.

mikeyboss on May 12, 2007 at 10:26 PM

But…but…but…Geraldo says Sharpton is a “great man.”

(Geraldo would be funny if he wasn’t so pathetic.)

CyberCipher on May 12, 2007 at 10:34 PM

Excellent shot across the bow… And very telling hit to Sharpton’s massive water-line and magazine.

gmcjetpilot on May 12, 2007 at 9:10 PM

No tie. Imus insulted EVERYONE. Himself, his wife, Bernard, etc. He was hired and expected to make outrageous comments. And Imus’ remarks never led to the deaths of 7 people. Al was up to his eyebrows with the Freddie’s Fashion Mart protest where he inflamed race tensions by saying…..

“We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business.”

No gmc that sack of $hit Al Sharpton is in a classlessness all his own.

csdeven on May 13, 2007 at 1:14 AM

Absolutely. In light of that, what do you think about the O&A thing? They insult everyone, including themselves, and their bosses expect them to make outrageous comments.

Jim Treacher on May 13, 2007 at 4:11 AM

The only thing that separates Al Sharpton from the common slug is the hair…and honestly, the slug is more believable.

DoctorDentons on May 13, 2007 at 6:32 AM

Sharpton was pathetic (as always). All anyone needs to say is “Tawana Brawley”….makes this con man cringe.

lynnv on May 13, 2007 at 8:15 AM

Sharpton really is good at playing the role of victim. How he turned he past into name calling. He such a sleazball, oops I called him a name.

Wade on May 13, 2007 at 11:07 AM

Is al-sharpTON even a reverend? We know the Jesse Jackson is not. Isn’t that a crime, to claim to be a reverend when you are not?

CrimsonFisted on May 13, 2007 at 7:35 PM

Barack the magic negro…la, la, la, la, la…catchy uh?
