I think the Christmas carol was in pretty poor taste (and not particularly well-done as a parody either), but the “Muslim Awareness Week” parody was simply a recitation of facts. It’s like if someone published a list of statistics about the Holocaust, and some German person claimed it constituted harassment…

Western Civilization is guilt-based: It holds that there is objective reality and standards of right and wrong; that a person who does wrong feels guilt because God knows he did wrong. If a whistleblower calls them out on it, so long as the accusation is true, the whistleblower is righteous and the original wrongdoer is entirely at fault.

Eastern Civilization is shame-based: You don’t feel guilty for doing wrong, only shame for getting caught. At that point, you commit suicide or at least resign.

The Middle-Eastern variant is a bit different: The whistleblower is guilty of bringing shame on the family/tribe/Ummah, and the truth of the accusation is of no consequence. “Behead those who insult Islam”. Compare urban bangers who don’t want to be dissed; cops are an occupying army and people who cooperate with them are collaborators, (”no snitches”).

And leftists empower every grievance group to complain about how offended they are by the things people say. Never mind that the offenses are based on contradictory rules that are not defined in advance, which some are allowed to violate with impunity. If you make the wrong people mad, you’re toast.

I’ve read parts, but I totally agree with you, it’s a slog. boring, boring, boring. Not spiritually uplifting at all. Very little (any?) love, although theres a lot of “merciful” while condemning non-believers here and in the afterworld.

It’s like someone took a book and cut out each sentence from each page and threw all the sentence scraps in the air and then just shuffled back together and organized the chapters by the numebr of sentences in each

Judging from your website, I suspect you know the reason for this, but I’ll explain it here for those who don’t.

The Koran is actually two different books. The first was revealed to Muhammad during his time in Mecca, when he was essentially a preacher. These are the ‘peaceful’ suras. The second was revealed after he went to Medina and formed an army to spread his religion. These are the more violent suras. At some point, a bunch of Islamic ’scholars’ got together and decided to scrap chronology and rearrange the suras in order of descending length. Apparently, they knew that their ‘holy scripture’ was controversial, so they did their best to obfuscate it.

The life of Muhammad, which transitioned from peace to war, is presented by Islam as the perfect model for all Muslims. Of course, many Muslims are reluctant to make the transition to war after a few generations of relative peace. Apparently, Allah anticipated this problem with ‘moderate’ Muslims, which is why he said,

“Fighting is enjoined on you, though it is an object of dislike to you; and it may be that you dislike a thing while it is good for you, and it may be that you love a thing while it is evil for you. Allah knows while you do not know.”

Islam is submission.

Doesn’t that make Allah the devil? Sounds about right to me.

In my limited experience and reading of such things, I’ve never known either student councils or student newspapers to be anything other than trifling and counterproductive. Starting legislative and journalistic wanna-be’s off in an artificial setting, in which they have everything handed to them and in which nothing meaningful is expected from them, seems likely to produce expectations and habits that leave the participants less prepared for participation in real institutions.
