I guess he hasn’t seen that poll yet.

I’d call that a portrait of two men in denial.
RedWinged Blackbird on May 11, 2007 at 1:17 PM
I frequently find myself thinking Olbermann must be playing it all for laughs because I’d like to think no one could be that demented. But I know he means every word. Thank God no one actually watches his network.
dostrick on May 11, 2007 at 1:21 PM
Maybe a portrait of a man in denial. [Beck] But a man none-the-less. If more anchors had Malkins and would expose the true morons [OLB] for who they really are… Oh well a guy can dream, eh?
Griz on May 11, 2007 at 1:21 PM
Why can’t life be like the cartoons with the giant boxing glove on the spring flying out from the wings and clubbing this self-inflated self-designated moral arbiter off the set (Olby, that is, not Beck)? Or what about a pistol, that you can shoot the moment he opens his yapper, and he immediately grows Bozo hair, a Bozo collar, and Bozo nose? Or, maybe a pistol that makes his tongue swell so that he starts choking on it the moment he speaks. Or maybe …

Liberals operate on so much bile and spite, that intellectual honesty is the first thing to go. They’d agree with a Truther if only for solidarity’s sake.
natesnake on May 11, 2007 at 1:27 PM
Absolutly right on target.
right2bright on May 11, 2007 at 1:33 PM
Well, it gives them a feeling of superiority which is also the fantasy of being in control. In fact, were they to admit that they are actually out of control, they might have admit some humility, and who knows where that might lead … good grief, possibly to God? Oh woe, oh woe.
Drum on May 11, 2007 at 1:35 PM
I initially read that as OBL… meaning our favorite Tora Bora cave painting. I guess the main difference is OBL is still in closer touch with reality than Olby. And probably smells better.

I wonder who’ll be the next “Worst Person in the World?” I had to chuckle when O’Reilly refered to the Olberdouche as “elements at NBC.” Heh
KelliD on May 11, 2007 at 1:36 PM
If Olby admitted that this was a good thing, he’d have to relinquish his King of the Nutroots sceptre. That and his three main memes would be compromised.
a) “politics of fear”
b) “question the timing”
c) “references to Orwell” as it pertains to the Patriot Act
So he has to liken the terrorists planning this to a couple of pranksters who were doing nothing more than the equivalent of lighting a bag of poop on fire and throwing it on someone’s porch.
Oh, and don’t question his patriotism. He’s likely to bust out a special comment on you.

I understand that Olby is high up on a list that Negroponte has been compiling.

I will gladly admit catching these guys was a great thing and that both the video store clerk and the FBI should be applauded.
But you must admit these guys were complete morons and this was the most stupidest, most ridiculously ill-conceived terrorist plot I’ve ever heard of.
JaHerer22 on May 11, 2007 at 2:24 PM
Yeah, JaHerer. About as stupid as a guy plotting to blow up an airliner over the ocean by lighting the explosives crammed in his shoe.
It’s funny how these terrorists are always nincompoops when we discover and prevent their plots to kill and destroy.
Real funny.

Islam = Religion of Peace
Democrats = Party of peace and Sanity
abinitioadinfinitum on May 11, 2007 at 2:54 PM
Your example makes no sense and basically supports my point.
Let’s assume the goal of the terrorist is to kill as many people and incite as much fear as possible. So let’s compare…
You put a bomb in your shoe because it is inconspicuous and unlikely to be checked. You target an airplane over the ocean because a small explosion can kill a lot of people and the plane is isolated and helpless; hundreds will be killed and millions more will be afraid to fly. This is evil, but it’s smart, well-thought out, and would achieve the terrorists’ goal.
or
You get some automatic weapons and mount an attack against a spread out fortified compound full of well-armed soldiers trained to fight and kill. You maybe manage to kill a handful before you are killed. Don’t get me wrong this would be a tragedy, but the body count would be relatively low and a limited amount of fear would be incited…I mean millions of Americans don’t visit military bases every day. This plan is also evil, but it is stupid and does not really achieve the terrorists’ goals.
Just because I’m calling these terrorists and their plan stupid and brainless, doesn’t mean I’m dismissing them, claiming they’re not evil, shouldn’t be in jail for the rest of time or anything like that. They’re terrorists and they are a threat to America; they’re just not the smartest terrorists around, that’s all.
JaHerer22 on May 11, 2007 at 2:58 PM
I’m liking Beck more and more every day.
see-dubya on May 11, 2007 at 3:06 PM
Yup.
Jaibones on May 11, 2007 at 3:08 PM
A bunch of uneducated barely literate fanatics taking over an airplane with boxcutters and flying it into a skyscraper.
It is equally ridiculous until it works.
What I do not understand is why the left, and this Jaherer22 guy is a good example of the groupthink there, wants to do PR work for the teroorists and lower our guard.
You know, the bad guys won’t check your voter registration before they kill you.
JayHaw Phrenzie on May 11, 2007 at 3:10 PM
So you think the masterminds behind all this send some of their retarded jihad-school dropouts over to plan moronic attacks like this that they know will fail; then people like me conclude all the terrorists are morons, let our guard down, and then when they send over the smart recruits we’re unprepared and they kill millions?
JaHerer22 on May 11, 2007 at 3:27 PM
JaHerer22: “But you must admit these guys were complete morons and this was the most stupidest, most ridiculously ill-conceived terrorist plot I’ve ever heard of.”
Who do you think we’re fighting? Geniuses? The Muslims want to return to the 7th century. That’s not exactly the goal of geniuses. The main reason we are opposed to them is their irrationality.
Most of Al Qaeda’s plots failed because of the same kind of incompetence demonstrated at Fort Dix. Those plots weren’t works of genius. They are all three point plots: 1) Build a big bomb; 2) Drive it to where the infidels are; 3) Blow myself up. These are guys who think the best way to get laid is to kill themselves.
Al Qaeda’s first attempt to blow up a US warship in the port of Aden, Yemen failed miserably. The kill crazy Muslims tried to sink the USS The Sullivans in January 2000 but set out at night and lost their way and found that their boat was sinking. They dragged it back to shore and left it there to get their vehicle. Some fishermen found it and looted it. So ended their first attempt. It took them ten months to get their crap together and make a second effort in daytime, so they could see where they were going, with a boat that wouldn’t sink. Al Qaeda are incompetent buffoons.
Take a look at the first WTC plot in 1993. The plotters were all pizza delivery men and taxi drivers, not plasma physicists. It wasn’t until Ramzi Yousef appeared from who knows where that they got organized enough to pull it off. And Yousef played them all for fools, leaving them holding the bag. Sheesh, one of the idiots tried to get the deposit back on the bomb van to buy a ticket to escape.
You don’t have to be a genius to do evil and cause harm. A rattlesnake can kill you dead with only a fraction of your IQ. So can a terrorist.
Tantor on May 11, 2007 at 4:15 PM
So, what you’re saying, then, is that Richard Reid was a legitimate and serious threat — unlike the “morons” in Jersey — and surely must have been regarded as such by the BDS American left?
That is what you’re saying?
Jaibones on May 11, 2007 at 4:25 PM
Ok, Jaherer22, picture this. You’re responsible for an Army training base. Do you have all the soldiers on base armed?
If you do, you lose a couple people a year on average due to accidents. So, to preserve lives, you likely restrict ammunition to the firing range. YOu do know that even in peacetime we lose a certain number of soldiers to “training accidents”, and this was an Army training base, so they’d likely have some extra restrictions in place (pre-9/11 they did, dunno about after).
Well actually, your post doesn’t show any knowledge of this, but I’ll presume you could have figured this out eventually if you’d done some research before making assumptions. I don’t know about post-9/11 but pre-9/11 the gate guards at Fort Dix often didn’t have loaded weapons. But I had to ask a guy stationed there to learn this, so that might not be common knowledge.
Ok, second, this isn’t a truly “closed base”, considering the location and the road network around it; it’s possible that you could walk into that base undetected (maybe not probable, depending on what other securiuty measures they have). But it isn’t nearly of the security level of the neighboring Air Force base.
Look at the following link:
http://www.dixmwr.com/map.pdf
So, the Burger King, the Post office, the Bank, all within the “base” area, these were also secured? Doubtful.
So, most civilians and soldiers on the base are likely not armed, you give me 10 guys with AK-47′s and RPG’s and a goal of killing as many as possible. And you think this is a stupid failed plan? Heck, I think this is at least plausible, more workable than the OK bombing. Some of us might even get back to the cars after the attack, but probably not. I’d predict between 20 and 100 dead from this assault with 8-10 of the attackers also dying. I’d estimate 6/1 ratio of kills to losses which is not generally considered a poor plan; unless you think AK-47 on (plausibly) unarmed soldiers isn’t going to work…
Heck, if they had gotten RPG style weapons, and attacked from range by complete surprise, they’re likely to kill a lot regardless… aren’t they?
No, the one bit of stupid was believing that the guys who process your video (or develop your pictures, etc.) never look at them. Ask the guy at Walgreens how much pornography he develops in a normal workday. Loads of people believe the process is so automated that nobody sees the “evidence” … so it’s a common misconception.
Unless you can use that 20/20 hindsight on future events, could you not use it in these discussions? Thanks.
gekkobear on May 11, 2007 at 4:48 PM
Even if they managed to kill ‘only’ 10 people on a military base before being killed or captured, the psychological and PR impact would be huge.
The same asswipes who are saying these guys are “just a bunch of morons” would be shouting about how, nearly 6 years after 9/11, post-PATRIOT Act, our own military bases weren’t secure.
John from WuzzaDem on May 11, 2007 at 5:00 PM
Of course, if they had gotten through and killed even one serviceman, it would have been BUSH WAS SO FOCUSED ON IRAQ THAT HE TOOK HIS EYES OFF THE DOMESTIC TERROR THREAT!!!!!

WHAT ABOUT TORA BORA??????
John from WuzzaDem on May 11, 2007 at 7:44 PM
Yes Glenn, that really is who these people are. The Dems are willing to lose a war to win an election, that’s who they are.
Tony737 on May 11, 2007 at 7:57 PM
I think it was also just so stupid of terrorists to think they could blow up the foundation to the WTC back in 93.
I mean, we should really not worry about that, or a gang of Islamists shooting up people on the Brooklyn Bridge, we also shouldn’t worry about Islamic maniacs killing people on the top of the Empire State Building.
We have nothing to fear, really.
benrand on May 11, 2007 at 9:24 PM
Let us only fear smart terrorists.
Those killed by dumb ones shouldn’t count.
Maybe the U.N. could pass this as The JaHerer Amendment.
“No one dying as a result of terrorist acts, unless said terrorists acted brilliantly, can be considered truly dead.”
Minimizing maniacs. Pretty damned dumb.
profitsbeard on May 11, 2007 at 10:53 PM
You are a partisan hack. ANY attack on US soil is a propoganda windfall for terrorism. If these guys had just gotten ON the base and were caught, terrorists around the world would have been emboldened and no one would give a rats a$$ how moronic they were. Had they caused any destruction or God forbid, killed anyone, this country would have looked like incompetent boobs AND MISGUIDED MOONBATS LIKE YOU would have complained how stupid the authorities are because they couldn’t catch these morons.
But that doesn’t matter to you does it? All you are interested in is spinning every event to look like the Bush Admin is staffed by simpletons because all the liberals have is hate. No viable plan. No honor. And no patriotism.
You and your ilk sicken me.
csdeven on May 12, 2007 at 6:09 AM
Go Glenn. That was a great smack-down. Unfortunately the Dhemocrats have become irrational Islamofascist deniers. It’s the 30′s all over again. Hitler’s on the rise and the masses are indifferent, insouciant, and oblivious.
