Video and Audio: O’Reilly tackles Akon; MM and Laura Ingraham blast the NYT’s Akon misreporting

posted at 12:03 pm on May 11, 2007 by Bryan

Bill O’Reilly and guests Bernie Goldberg and Jane Hall discussed the Akon situation on The Factor last night. When the NYT portrayed finally got around to reporting on Akon it failed to mention Michelle or Hot Air or Laura Ingraham or Debbie Schlussel, and it portrayed Akon as the victim; O’R and Co were having none of that. Consider the NYT fact-checked. Take a look.

Michelle was on the Laura Ingraham show today to discuss Akon and the Ft. Dix terror case. They took on the NYT for portraying Akon as the innocent victim of vengeful rightwing punditry. Take a listen.

Michelle get no respect

Defector01 on May 11, 2007 at 12:09 PM

Poor Akon. He has been picked on by 2 mean and nasty women. Rosie and Sheehan, no.. Michelle Malkin and Laura Ingraham. He must be so frightened along with all the other nappy headed gangsters musical artists.

Michelle get no respect

Defector01 on May 11, 2007 at 12:09 PM

That’s news to me! She’s a rock-star in her own right. No respect from the ‘old gray lady’, but respect from that is like a blemish on the record these days.

Spirit of 1776 on May 11, 2007 at 12:23 PM

She’s a rock-star in her own right.

I know I’m star-struck!

Isn’t it a little ironic Michelle constantly bashes the New York Times, questions their credibility and even their patriotism, yet apparently finds them respectable and important enough to use their blurb to plug herself at the very top of her site?

Just sayin…

I don’t think NYT was trying to flatter her with that moniker, so her use of it is a humorous twist. I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest to you that she isn’t looking for validation from liberal news outlets.

If I am not mistaken that is actually a slam at the NYT as I believe they originally called her a “Phillipina Firecracker”, proving once again that conservatives must be labeled and catagorized by the liberal media.

The irony is that the NYT in their effort to ignore the facts and people who, in this instance, are trying to bring some civil responsibility to the music industry and those who sponsor it have by not crediting those very people, have in fact provided more fodder for Michelle and Laura to profit and self promote.

The other ironic fact is by doing this the NYT demonstrates Michelle is right to bash them for their credibility and patriotism.

Just sayin…

Wade on May 11, 2007 at 12:51 PM

OK…So that was “Filipina Firecracker” used back in Oct ’06 when the NYT was describing Michelle’s anti-jihad battle with YouTube.

If their circulation continues on its downward spiral it may become a moot issue.

And if you crave more of that bumper music from Laura Ingraham’s show, it’s “Ladyshave” by Gus Gus. It’s even harder out there for Gus Gus.

She never said they were respectful, but she does know they are important. The NYT’s still have a powerful postition in the MSM.
Funny how you always mistate other peoples position, is that because you are a liar, or not very smart?

It’s more than a little ironic. It’s imprudent. It’s ill-advised, and I’ve said as much in messages to her. The problem of bashing the NYT and AP as purveyors of deliberately distorted news one day and quoting them or excerpting their dispatches on other items should be an obvious conflict of standards.

I advise her and HA to shun them both. Stop linking to their content; stop taking their ads dollars; do not buy newstand copies or (!) subscribe. Pay attention to them ONLY when you are pointing out their blatant left-wing bias and to otherwise have fun at their expense.

netherman79 on May 11, 2007 at 1:30 PM

Oh…and I’m not “just sayin’”

What is that supposed to mean, anyway?

netherman79 on May 11, 2007 at 1:32 PM

It’s more than a little ironic. It’s imprudent. It’s ill-advised…

It’s ironic, because the Times chose to call her a “Filipina firecracker” instead of just taking her on her own merits. Why bring up ethnicity? The link is meant to shame them, though it’s impossible to shame the Old Gray Lady of the Evening anymore. You guys who have such a problem with this need to develop a sense of the ironic along with a sense of humor.

Bryan on May 11, 2007 at 1:57 PM

There is a reason why the old saying “I don’t care what they say about me…as long as they spell my name right” still means something today.

The NYT does’t get the humour, or the irony. They DO get the free advertising. They can point to MM or HA and say “See how important we are? We are the still the highest standard! Even while they ridicule us, they still yearn for our attentions.”

Bryan on May 11, 2007 at 1:57 PM

I wasn’t aware of the “Filipina Firecracker” story so I guess it makes a little more sense now. For a casual observer though it seems like she is endorising them.

JaHerer22 on May 11, 2007 at 2:34 PM

Laura Ingraham said,

“Michelle’s not afraid of anybody. That’s why I like her!”

AMEN Laura! And playing the song “Michelle” by the Beatles at the end of the segment was just perfect!

Joshua P. Allem on May 11, 2007 at 2:37 PM

all good but,
O’reilly pronounces Michelle’s last name funny.

or is it pronounced Maaaaaaaalkin?

I would think it’s pronounced the way Michelle pronounces it at the beginning of every episode of Vent.

Joshua P. Allem on May 11, 2007 at 4:23 PM

The best way to defeat some of these leftists, is to point a finger at them and laugh. What they do is so ridiculous sometimes you just can’t respond with anything but ridicule. Such is the stoic NYT calling Michelle a Fillipino Firecracker (and the whole story line before and after). You just point your finger at the mess and laugh. I can’t believe that JaHerer22 did not know that. It was several days of Michelle ridiculing the NYT’s, Ja…never misses the beat when he thinks the liberal press has the upper hand, but magically he misses this when they make a fool of themselves. Whenever the left goofs, Jahere22, Honora, and others fade into the background, they just never seem to remember how foolish the left is and how often that is.
Like I posted earlier, either JaHerer22 is lying or he is just plain stupid.

That Ingraham audio is pretty skippy and poppy as I listen to it. Good, but poppy. Anyone else, or is it just me?

see-dubya on May 11, 2007 at 5:33 PM

Jane Hall nailed it. Imus got outed because people could hear what he said…Akon, and the rest of his ilk get to pull a slide because no self respecting media outlet can publish what is actually the subject matter of the debate.

O’Reilly sets up the scenario about Mr. Goldberg and Ms. Hall going to the NY Times to enquire, but he comes up with a weak-kneed question. The question that would embarrass the Times is why they didn’t publish the the lyrics in question.

It’s unanswerable.
