Overfed socialist being investigated by feds for breaking Cuba embargo

Which was surely one of the reasons he broke it in the first place, to drum up publicity for his new film with chill winds and dissent-crushing and a government that’s afraid of its people finding out the truth. That last point plays particularly well these days with the left’s rank and file, needless to say.
He’s working for the common good, so he gets to ignore policies he doesn’t like.
The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control notified Moore in a letter dated May 2 that it was conducting a civil investigation for possible violations of the U.S. trade embargo restricting travel to Cuba. A copy of the letter was obtained Tuesday by the AP.
“This office has no record that a specific license was issued authorizing you to engage in travel-related transactions involving Cuba,” Dale Thompson, OFAC chief of general investigations and field operations, wrote in the letter to Moore.
Here’s my favorite part. No Truther worth his salt could fail to appreciate the sublime, calculated paranoia of this:
After receiving the letter, Moore arranged to place a copy of the film in a “safe house” outside the country to protect it from government interference, said the person working on the release of the film.
His completely predictable response is already posted at his website. Exit question: When exactly did “common good” come to mean “a percentage of the box office”?

How long still the overfed socialist is sitting in the senate?
lorien1973 on May 10, 2007 at 11:35 AM
“safe house”, what a joke. Hasn’t this man ever heard of Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. He certainly can afford gastric bypass as well. I know, I am very mean so before all you libs tell me how mean I am, I am admitting it now!
Catie96706 on May 10, 2007 at 11:35 AM
Someone needs to airlock that pig.
unamused on May 10, 2007 at 11:36 AM
He could solve the problem by applying for Cuban citizenship and moving there.
JayHaw Phrenzie on May 10, 2007 at 11:36 AM
Why in hell did we allow him to come back?
He deserves Cuba, and they him. They all speak the same language….HATE.

I would recommend that everyone check out babulublog to see how “wonderful” cuba’s health care is. I know it will just help him sell his movie but I would really link to see mikey thrown in the clink.
Shtetl G on May 10, 2007 at 11:39 AM
Umm … didn’t it always? Well, in Hollyweird anyways.
nukemhill on May 10, 2007 at 11:43 AM
The correct term is ‘bloated socialist’, thank you very much.
The secret exit answer: Cuban liposuction.
locomotivebreath1901 on May 10, 2007 at 11:43 AM
Wow. First he eliminated the terrorist threat by declaring in capital letters that it does not exist, and now he’s going to fix health care. I feel better already.

Can someone photoshop that picture of Moore with the finger pointed at himself?

Coming Soon from Michael Moore:
“Shiny Happy People” – a guided tour of North Korea
“Mothers and Fathers” – an extended film of Hiz’b'allah minutemen handing out candy to children, translation provided by Hiz’b'allah.
“The Evil That Men Do” – Exposes the smug superiority of the Red Cross, UNICEF, and other evil Western so-called “charities.”

This is just another poke in the face of American Law.
Sanctuary cities, speakers going to talk to dictators, all openly violating laws and knowing that they will not be called on it.
bbz123 on May 10, 2007 at 12:08 PM
As much as I agree with the fact that he’s overfed, I must disagree with making it point to state that fact. I thought it was stupid to write Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and therefore I think we should refrain from calling Dems fat. I think it’s a silly attack and makes us look foolish.
Carry on.
ballz2wallz on May 10, 2007 at 12:16 PM
I’m glad someone is finally exposing the embargo against Cuba for what it is – a political tool created and wielded by the fascist Bushco Empire for the sole purpose of silencing those who would dare to expose the true beauty of Cuba through the medium of documentary film.
What an idiot.

I still like Fred!’s take on Mikey’s (fictitious) documentary, which in part states:

It always baffles me how so many individuals still hold onto that old, tried and failed, socialist ideal. To advertise any aspect of the Cuban govt as exemplary is ludicrous beyond belief. It is so far beyond belief that I wonder if he is really a true believer in the subject matter he provides or has he just found a very profitable niche market? He is undeniably very good at this whole marketing gimmick/publicity generating game. I have to wonder that if I was sitting next to him at a bar and asked him the simple question, “If you really believe that the subject matter in your movies is accurate then why is it you have to use lies and deceitful tactics in order to complete your film?” I wonder if he wouldn’t answer that question with a chuckle attached to the phrase, “Have you seen my bank account lately?”

Fat is an undeniable state of being and this disgusting dolt is fat. Avoiding the use of the word doesn’t effect the true state of nature.
rplat on May 10, 2007 at 12:35 PM
A lawyer might say that truth is an absolute defense.
Zetterson on May 10, 2007 at 12:43 PM
But to be fair, Michael Moore is really, really fat. I mean, he’s so fat, when he sits around the house, he sits around the house.
Whacka whacka!
Kensington on May 10, 2007 at 12:57 PM
Yeah, and I’ll still be smarter and less of a health risk.
tormod on May 10, 2007 at 1:02 PM
Cynical, manipulative manufactured victimhood. I hope it backfires on him.
Gottafang on May 10, 2007 at 1:03 PM
Probably true tormod. I don’t know anything about you but you’re probably right about that.
It won’t. His “fans” are too stupid and blind to reality. His “fans” are only emboldened by the backlash that comes from truly smart, patriotic Americans.
Zetterson on May 10, 2007 at 1:14 PM
Hooray for free movie publicity courtesy of the United States government and the MSM! Minimum advertising paid out, maximum profit raked in! woo-hoo!
SilverStar830 on May 10, 2007 at 1:22 PM
Michael Moore shouldn’t have gone to Cuba. Venezuela would have been so much more fun! Chavez and Moore would have spent sone quality time together gossiping about Booosh!
kiakjones on May 10, 2007 at 1:28 PM
Moore praises Cuba’s wonderful system, while deriding the country that allows him to consume more calories in a day than the average Cuban family gets in a week.
What a pig.

Him being a socialist, we must require him to give up 80% of his food intake and send it to Africa.
Tim Burton on May 10, 2007 at 3:45 PM
What are the odds that Rosie shows up at Mikey’s premiere? Better than even?
Mallard T. Drake on May 10, 2007 at 4:18 PM
Today you earned a special bonus AP, for “overfed soci*list”. I generally call him a bloated soci*list Schwein. Your terminology is more refined and subtly way more lethal. Anti-soci*lists everywhere approve wholeheartedly!!!
Since Al Gore invented the “lock box”. Social Security was just a front.
Entelechy on May 10, 2007 at 4:24 PM
Cuba’s “health care system” is kinda like China’s “freedom of religion.” They throw the visitors a bone to make it look like they’re not the Communist thugs they really are.
BigOrangeAxe on May 10, 2007 at 4:43 PM
I liked it too; also he made this point:
According to Forbes magazine, by the way, Castro is now personally worth approximately $900 million. So when he desperately needed medical treatment recently, he could afford to fly a Spanish surgeon, with equipment, on a chartered jet to Cuba. What does that say about free Cuban health care?
Hollowpoint on May 10, 2007 at 6:31 PM
This morbidly obese buffoon is doing a film about health care?
That’s like Albert Fish writing a cookbook for children.

…he could call it a hunger offset.
I noticed over at MM’s site that the lard@$$ is playing the victim card claiming the Treasury investigation is an attempt to block his movie.
Why did he apply to OFAC at Treasury then back in October 2006 to go to Cuba if it’s all a conspiracy?
Nitwit.
