I should add that had he been disseminating Hezbollah propaganda there probably wouldnt have been a problem. That would have qualified as free speech.

Valid point. This only adds to the prosecutions case however because now they will argue that the professor is victimising them based on their illiteracy. They will then declare themselves an oppressed minority and begin their ‘struggle’ for ‘freedom’ by ‘resisting’ their oppressor. The poor prof will likely end up with a fatwa.
