Palestinian Mickey propaganda update; Update: “Pure evil,” says Disney’s daughter; Update: Hamas pulls Mickey’s show

CNN has a problem with the MEMRI translation of that faux Mickey video that I wrote up the other day. But MEMRI stands by the translation. Cry Havoc (a great blog name if there ever was one) has details.
More: It’s not like Palestinian children have been raised on a diet of war and martyrdom for years or anything. This being CNN disputing the translation, I can’t help but think of Eason Jordan’s confession and the all-important access issue.
Update (AP): Maybe this will force the Disney company to say something.
“Of course I feel personal about Mickey Mouse, but it could be Barney as well,” [Diane Disney] Miller, 73, told the Daily News yesterday in a phone interview.
She was more horrified the terror group was using the knockoff Mickey to preach Islamic radicalism to kids throughout the Gaza Strip.
“It’s not just Mickey, it’s indoctrinating children like this, teaching them to be evil,” said Miller, a Northern California winery owner. “The world loves children and this is just going against the grain of humanity.”…
“What we’re dealing with here is pure evil and you can’t ignore that,” Miller said. “I’m awful glad you’re doing something about it, writing about this and keeping it in the public eye as much as it can be.”
Update (AP): Credit Palestinian Media Watch, MEMRI, and of course (right-wing) blogs for this. Proof positive that shining enough western media sunlight on certain Middle Eastern practices can disinfect them, at least at the edges:
A program using a Mickey Mouse-like character to urge Palestinian children to fight Israel and the West and work for world Islamic domination has been pulled off Hamas’s television station for “review,” Palestinian Information Minister Mustafa Barghouti said Wednesday.
Barghouti said the use of the cartoon character in such a role represented a “mistaken approach” to the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation.

It’s wrong. It’s just wrong. I mean how can anyone with half a conscious make Mickey a suicide bomber? Sick people.
amerpundit on May 9, 2007 at 10:04 AM
amerpundit, I think you’re missing a bigger point. Who gives a crap about Mickey Mouse here.
How can any society praise and raise their kids to kill themselves and others via suicide bombings?
I’m floored that the Palestinians have any support from anyone, period, with practices like this coming to light.

This has been their MO since the beginning, it is just now starting to get more coverage.

I was joking. I understand the bigger picture here: the sickness of the Palestinian people indoctrinating their children to not only hate, but kill, others. I’m glad Mrs. Disney said what she did.
amerpundit on May 9, 2007 at 11:06 AM
Disney sues anyone and everyone for infringement on their trademarks. I hope they take SOME sort of action, not necessarily a suit, but something to counteract this horrible blight that the Palis are doing to their image. These people cannot even create their own cartoon characters, but have to steal someone else’s.

I’m not surprised that Rickey Rat finally showed his true colors. Never trust a talking rodent, period.

It’s not just the PA, it’s systemic throughout the Islamic world. I’m sure it wouldn’t have anything to do with Islamic teachings. /sarcasm off

That’s right Hamas goons! Now you’ve gone too far! Perpare to incur the wrath of America’s most feared weapon… the legal team of Walt Disney Enterprises!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Hamas pulls Mickey? Damn Bryan, you are good.
amerpundit on May 9, 2007 at 11:34 AM
Hamas figured out that Mickey knows the Sopranos.

Anyone else see the irony in using Mickey Mouse, a symbol of a democratic, capitalist society to entice kids to fight non-muslims.
“Hey kids, see this cute little mouse? Be sure to do as he says then KILL HIM!”
Or is it that Mickey Mouse truly has converted to Islam? If so, I’d better cancel that trip to Disneyland this summer and destroy all my Disney movies and toys.

Dangit..I missed this whole story…I even had a song going….
Who’s the guy that bombs them all and kills for you and me? J I H ADI M OU S E!
Every time I get the creative juices flowing, somebody has to step on the damn hose. Oh well.
austinnelly on May 9, 2007 at 12:00 PM
Translation: Damn! They are on to us, gotta go deeper underground to get these kids brainwashed. Let’s use Bugs Bunny maybe, next time? Harry Potter? The Smurfs?

Naah, I’m sure CNN is correct. They only lied about Iraq for years because Iraq was a murderous administration; whereas Hamas is…
Oh, but it was just to keep access because otherwise the Iraq Government might have attacked or kidnapped reporters, whereas Hamas…
Oh.
Hmm. Wow, losing all credibility on an issue like this has to hurt for a news agency.

Pwn3d!
Stupid Hamas, I’m amazed Disney took this long to even comment. Those guys do not screw around when it comes to protecting their franchise.
Bad Candy on May 9, 2007 at 12:31 PM
Did Disney ever officially comment on this?
Valiant on May 9, 2007 at 1:19 PM
Crimson Fisted,
That is called – Islam. We used to chide the Japanese for stealing original ideas from others and improving them. The real essence of Islam from day one has been theft and conquest. Find an Islamic state that has a prospering economy built upoon innovation… Buehler? Buehler?

The horrible things that the
barbariansradical Muslims and extremist Islam in general do to their sweet innocent children is enough to make the blood boil. In most civilized countries, you get your kids taken from you and put into protective custody if you abuse them. That can even include simply taking your kid to the store and encouraging them to do something as benign as shoplift.Hamas has been farming, raising, and teaching their children to hate and murder for decades, and they will continue to do so as long as they can get away with it. Sometimes I think many of their women have children simply to add to their army of evil. They’re savages, tantamount to nothiong more than barbaric neanderthals. They’re a blight on this world along with the rest of those on our planet who would instill pure hate into innocent children while sanctioning and training a child from their birth to become hate filled murderers. There is no excuse. There is no fathomable reason to treat any child like the Palestinians/Hamas and radical Muslims treat theirs.
/ugh!

Hamas needs to cut out this Mickey Mouse stuff, it’s making them all look Goofy. (Someone had to say it.)

I told you those Disney lawyers were scary.
Iblis on May 9, 2007 at 2:34 PM
So, what would have been the correct approach, to use GI Joe and Barbie instead? Doesn’t matter what that pervert says, they are using children to further their hate agendas!!!
4shoes on May 9, 2007 at 2:40 PM
That’s kind of insulting to Neanderthals; watch out that you don’t get the same guys going after you that are going after GEICO.
LegendHasIt on May 9, 2007 at 3:22 PM
I will be disappointed if Kermit was behind all of this…you can’t trust PBS.
right2bright on May 9, 2007 at 3:52 PM
The virulent jew-haters at Al-CNN International today in their attemt to spin the Hamas-Mickey scandal described MEMRI and Palestine Media Watch as “privately funded pro-israeli groups”.

good to know we finally found something that scares hamas; Disney’s Jewish Lawyer’s brigade
Defector01 on May 9, 2007 at 5:27 PM
I’m holding out for Porky the Pig, myself. In fact: let’s launch a blogosphere campaign to have Hamas’s stuffed animal replaced with a juicy side of pork. Whaddya say?
Maybe Disney will bend over and take one as long the antagonist is… a scary Muslim. If so, that’s the new way to rip off the Disney empire: cry Muslim when you steal from the Mouse!
If so, what’s his new Muslim, *excuse me, ahem*… Arabic, name?
